He-Man and the Masters of the Universe 83 -- 85 [Volume 6] Episode 35: The Sleepers Awaken by AverageMansReviews

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe 83 -- 85 [Volume 6] Episode 35: The Sleepers Awaken by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this episode is mediocre.

He-Man: well in this episode he has all the best bits, it could be is dialogue exchanges or action sequences or anything else in a nutshell it is a good thing he has big shoulders, because he carries this episode from the time he enters, until he leaves.

Evildoers: wow these evildoers are so boring, please bring back Skeletor full time or part time or at least use one of his minions [yes even one of Skeletor's minions could do better than these two characters.]

Ending message: is something to this effect; it is important to have a consistent bedtime schedule.

This episode receives: 40% approval, now even though I have pretty much outlined the fact that this episode is boring in one way or another, my percentage of this episode is to highlight how much He-Man really does carry this episode, he makes things interesting or with his action-packed sequences entertaining or that kind of thing, it is highly appropriate at this time for me to bring this up,

I never realized how much this TV program relies on He-Man or Skeletor to be at the very least somewhere around these episodes and just for the record I am very much aware that other animated TV programs have a similar problem, it is noticeable in other TV programs and maybe they tried to skate over the episode quickly, but as it relates to this TV program it feels like a massive hole has been left when for an example Skeletor isn't around either full-time or part-time, it doesn't matter which option they took but now looking back on it when they wanted to take this character out for some episodes, they should have given more episodes to his followers or minions [yes they have done that in some episodes,] by doing this; they would have given their supporting characters more time to grow which in turn growth means your characters would have potentially and eventually a different way of thinking or a new skill set or the possibilities are endless.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe 83 -- 85 [Volume 6] Episode 34: The Dragon's Gift by AverageMansReviews

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe 83 -- 85 [Volume 6] Episode 34: The Dragon's Gift by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this episode has many things to offer its audiences.

Cringer/Battle Cat: both of these characters individually put in a great showing, Cringer firstly shows a good mixture of his personality traits in this episode from being quite goofy to sweet and then obviously being scared of what is happening in this storyline. Now secondly moving onto Battle Cat he has some very good sequences, his personality is really strong which gives this character such a massive stage presence even with or without He-Man the audience knows that this character is around, in a nutshell inside he is soft and respectful to friends, but incredibly overpowering and highly intimidating to any enemy.

Other characters: now throughout this journey the audience will meet a small selection of characters which for me, they all have likable personality traits there is nothing wrong with them.

Teela vs. Skeletor: I really do like these sequences, because it isn't that often that we get to see these two characters [from a film critic/TV critic perspective,] we don't often get to see these two characters working off one another consistently especially in this case they are using two swords [one each] so from my perspective these sequences are fresh and most definitely something interesting to watch.

Ending message: to be honest I have seen this ending message at least twice now and it is a little bit vague or just perhaps I'm missing something, but it talks about respect life and enjoy life.

This episode receives: 90% approval; like I have already said this episode has so many things to offer its audiences from beginning to end, but it has to be noted that Teela does whinge quite a lot in this episode and on a side note I have been using subtitles throughout these episodes, the reason why I haven't brought it up like a film review is because it isn't a part of the project itself I am just using those facilities which is something completely different.

Despicable Me 2010 by AverageMansReviews

Despicable Me 2010 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this film is excellent fun.

Artistic visions: they are engaging, there is always something just around the corner be it a comedy element, storyline, artistic visions or something else. The animation itself is looking a little bit old, if you look at the small details [in a nutshell you have to go looking for it to find it.] But let's be fair, it is holding up very, very well indeed, it is still able to transport its audiences from their seats into this world.

Storyline: when it comes to the big titles as it relates to computer animation such as Toy Story 1995, Shrek 2001 and this title. They all have one thing in common [in actual fact they have many things in common,] but my point is this; they all have a fundamentally sound storyline, which basically means, their storylines are easy to understand, then follow and in these three titles cases [easy to build other instalments on.] You see by taking a fundamentally sound storyline, you can build things in and around the storyline such as comedy elements, character developments at different points, possibly now and again knowing when to use background music in a sequence of scenes or something else and I hasten to add, it doesn't matter how old these film titles get they will stand the test of time, regardless of how many, many, many years later the animation may look a little bit vintage by then.

Comedy elements: they are well spaced throughout, it could be the Minions or for another example Gru takes on his most hardest mission to date [three girls.] Yes I am aware that I haven't spoken to much about the comedy elements, this is because I don't want to spoil any of this surprises that you will experience in this project, but what I can say is this; they feel very natural to be happening when they happen, none of the comedy elements feel out of place in this project.

This film receives: 100% approval, it is one of those occasions where I really cannot criticize this project, because as I have already outlined it offers so much and I am not willing to take off any percentages for this film looking a little bit old in some places.

Pacific Rim 2013 by AverageMansReviews

Pacific Rim 2013 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this film is a mixed bag for me.

Idris Elba as Stacker Pentecost and Ron Perlman as Hannibal Chau: these are the only two characters I like in this project, their dialogue exchanges individually are gripping, passionate and a bit comical [in a nutshell every time they are on screen I became interested in this film.]

Remaining characters: but for everyone else's character developments, well how can I put this nicely; it was like watching paint dry [I should clarify one little detail, I am specifically talking about their character developments and nothing else.] But I digress their character developments are incredibly weak and insufferable, within a couple of seconds meeting these characters for the first time I could tell you so much about them, such as the partial love interest, the character which is going to bring our lead character some friction to begin with and towards the three-quarter stage roughly come to respect our lead character, not forgetting not one but two scientists characters that bring this kind of intelligence yet comical element which really, really, really isn't that funny and these are just some examples of the character developments which this film has to offer its audiences.

Storyline/Subtitles: well this was boring, just for the record I am not too sure if it is just a mixture between the character developments and the storyline or if it was just the character developments which made the storyline seem boring. But either way I found the storyline difficult to follow based on the fact I was bored [I understood the storyline with no problems and it makes sense.] Subtitles they are okay-ish, they are big enough, just not my favourite text on screen not in the slightest [I mean this from a reading perspective not an artistic vision perspective.]

Action sequences/Artistic visions: the thing is when this film actually settles down into its strengths, it can be entertaining especially when you have these hard-hitting action-packed sequences that have these big monsters being very aggressive in their attacking styles and these giant robot machines [which have two human beings inside them,] using many different methods of attacks to try and overcome the monster which they are facing.

The artistic visions are many to see throughout this project, it could be the camera angles to illustrate how big these robots machines or monsters are and not forgetting how they actually move and all that kind of thing. The detail on these monsters themselves has to be highly praised, because from a visual perspective the audience can clearly see how much detail has gone into these monsters, the landscapes are another interesting element as well as there has been good varieties used here [as in these action-packed sequences take place anywhere,] it keeps the action-packed sequences nice and fresh, I mean they are interesting, but with the backdrops changing locations they can use different ideas in different backdrops.

This film receives 50% approval: to be honest this is the only percentage that consistently kept coming up in my mind, because there are some really good elements, but also there are some really boring elements to this project as well [I had to take one or two stops because something came up.]

TRON 1982 by AverageMansReviews

TRON 1982 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this film is a classic, the older it gets the better it looks.

Artistic visions: amazing, truly amazing, the landscapes throughout this project may look basic by today's standards [as it relates to its computer elements and so on and so forth.] But having said that it does look very clean and tidy, the imagination used in this title should be highly praised for its good fun and not only that there is always something just hiding around the corner to get your attention or interest or just to keep the project going at a decent pace.

Games/Action sequences: once again fantastic imagination used, there is no contest these games/action sequences are much more entertaining, eye-catching and gripping over this film's sequel [in 2010.] I have a feeling this may have something to do with these sequences have a really strong idea of where they begin, what is happening, the end and the next scene. This may sound really obvious, but I am a great believer in if you do the basics correctly such as doing the best to your abilities regardless of the financial situation [budget,] including what I have just said as it relates to having a really strong idea of a beginning, middle, end and then next scene [maybe moving on with the storyline,] you should be able to create at least some highly rememberable sequences which let’s be honest this film has plenty of them.

Cast: this film feels like a cast, where they have all come together, they understand each other’s characters really well and simply just bouncing a good chemistry between one another.

This film receives: 100% approval, even though I had to stop it once because something came up as far as I'm concerned this film title is always going to be a classic and you should see it once in your lifetime.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe 83 -- 85 [Volume 6] Episode 33: The Starchild by AverageMansReviews

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe 83 -- 85 [Volume 6] Episode 33: The Starchild by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: now don't get me wrong there are some good points to this episode, but I have to be honest it is slightly boring and on top of that there is no Skeletor.

He-Man and Battle Cat: have some excellent sequences in this episode as in their dialogue exchanges, there all round chemistry, brief riding and action sequences.

Fundamental core: when the audience has He-Man and Battle Cat on screen, this episode feels lively but without this partnership on screen the rest of the episode feels very hit and miss [I should just point out that He-Man does have some other interesting action sequences, but as I have always said I wouldn't discuss all the good things or the bad bits in my reviews.]

Storyline: in one sentence, it is incredibly cheesy from beginning to end.

Ending message: in a nutshell, it talks about the power of love.

This episode receives: 40% approval, yes I did find this episode to be a little bit boring, but having said that there are some good bits. All I am going to say is this; they need to bring Skeletor back.

Hitman 2007 by AverageMansReviews

Hitman 2007 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this film for me is mixed.

Timothy Olyphant and Olga Kurylenko: have good chemistry on screen and their dialogue exchanges are interesting at every stage of this project [when they are consistently working off one another.] On a side note Timothy Olyphant as Agent 47 does this character justice not only in his physical appearance, but his mannerisms, how he mentally approaches things with this very clinical approach and many other things on top of that.

Action sequences: well they are action, action and more action, they is a good mixture between many weapons being used, hand to hand combat and explosions and so on and so forth.

Subtitles/Flashbacks: the subtitles are okay, now you may be wondering where are the downsides to this project, well to put it politely here we go. The flashbacks [including the growing up sequences at the beginning of this project] are cheesy and annoying; they just do nothing for me.

Remaining characters; now with putting two characters to one side for a minute, the rest of the characters throughout this project are really boring, you can see everything coming from miles and miles away. Now I don't know if it was to do with the script that these characters come across as very poor or it was the performers themselves. I prefer to say it was the script, because I could see at some stages, the performers themselves just didn't have much to work with and consequently it just made their scenes feel empty or as I have already said really boring or predictable.

This film receives: 57% approval, now if there are any fans of Timothy Olyphant out there in Internet land, give this film a look, he really does put in a very good performance [I have to stop this film because something came up.]

Max Payne 2008 by AverageMansReviews

Max Payne 2008 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this film is just terrible.

Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis: have a good connection on screen; these two performers are the only positives to this project.

Everything else: well everyone should know by now, yes usually I would give you a little bit more detail by sectioning off some elements and discussing them. But in this case I just can't do that because this film is rubbish, I mean the action sequences are really uninspiring and incredibly tedious, yes absolutely there are plenty of weapons being used and so on, but once you have seen one action-packed sequence you have seen them all in one way or another.

The fundamental core to this project, well this film moves so slowly that I was really close to falling asleep in my wheelchair, what can I say "I really don't like this project."

After some closing credits: there is this sequence of events, to suggest there may be a sequel but on my research the only thing that consistently came up was Max Payne: Retribution 2017 [roughly 43 minutes long,] I have never seen this film I didn't know it existed until my research [because I deal with facts, it is unclear to me if these films are connected or not or if it is a standalone film title or whatever.] My point is this; I am not convinced that these two film titles are connected which makes this small sequence of events in this project useless.

This film receives: 18% approval, this film receives this percentage only based on Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, because without them this film would have received much less.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation 1997 by AverageMansReviews

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation 1997 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this sequel is so poor it isn't funny.

Smoke/Sub-Zero/Scorpion/Cyrax: these characters would be the only positives to this project by a long, incredibly long distance. I don't know how to put this; so I am just going to have to come out with it, whenever these characters are on screen this film feels like it is taking things seriously, you see it is a beautiful mixture between their stage presence [individually or together] or their action-packed sequences or their very brief dialogue exchanges.

In fact I will go one more step and say I would have absolutely scrapped this script and had these four characters chasing down the characters from the Earth realm their mission is to take these characters and stand them in front of Shao Kahn for judgment [I am aware that my script idea is a little bit cheesy, but then again to be fair I couldn't do much worse than this script,] they could still use the Shao Kahn and Raiden storyline elements [as a background storyline.]

Everything else: yes usually I would section off different elements and discussed them, but as they all have one big similarity [as in they are rubbish,] I was thinking I would somewhat speed this up a little [keeping in mind if we put the four characters I have named in somewhere near the top of this review to one side for a minute.]

The rest of this film is just really hard work to not only enjoy but to watch as well, the dialogue exchanges are really boring or they have this really immature tone to them [for an example these characters could be arguing between themselves.] The special effects used even back when this film had firstly come out, they didn't look that good but many, many years later they just look really bad.

This film receives: 20% approval, I think this percentage just about feels right. Because there are some good elements to this project, but simply put there are not enough of them to take your mind off how bad this sequel is [I had to stop this film once due to technical difficulties, my DVD player did not like this DVD.]

Lawless 2012 by AverageMansReviews

Lawless 2012 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: my opinions about this film title are really mixed.

Tom Hardy, Jason Clarke and Gary Oldman: put in some great performances with their dialogue exchanges and stage presence [it should be noted that Gary Oldman's appearances are limited, but it is always good to see this performer in a title.]

But I digress; Hardy and Clarke, individually or together have a really good understanding of their character developments and family connections. The audience will get a good sense when at least one of these characters are on screen that this film has a good idea of what is coming next and so on and so forth.

I have to ask this rhetorical question What is it with one other character's eyebrows? [This has nothing to do with the three characters I have been discussing,] they just look really, really strange. You will be able to notice them, because they are either not there or something has gone wrong with them, I just have no idea what happened here.]

But to be polite without these three performers on screen at some point in these sequences, this film is quite slow and I have to ask another rhetorical question [What is it with this background music?] It is really off-putting and it just makes the film feel really stretched out.

Action sequences: they are impactful and well put together.

This film receives: 58% approval, if there are any fans of Hardy, Clark or Oldman [keeping in mind his appearances are limited,] give this film a look, but from an overview perspective this film is good-ish for a one time viewing but that would be it.

Looney Tunes: Back in Action 2003 by AverageMansReviews

Looney Tunes: Back in Action 2003 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: I haven't seen this film in some time, but having said that age has done this film no favours whatsoever.

Looney Tunes: these characters do have some excellent comedy moments, but on the other hand there are some mediocre moments followed by some terrible moments as well.

Real life cast: well this film title did no one any favours to be kind, their character developments are incredibly weak including their comedy elements and how could I forget their actual interaction with the Looney Tunes themselves, it just looks really poor at every single stage.

Storyline: boring, boring and boring.

This film receives: 16% approval, when the Looney Tunes themselves are going through a good sequence of events, this film doesn't look so bad, but then again you are quickly reminded in the next sequence how bad this film actually is.

X-Men 2000 by AverageMansReviews

X-Men 2000 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: now I have always found it difficult to put a percentage of approval to this project, based on the facts that it does what it is meant to do [to begin this franchise, introduced us the audience to these characters, with a reasonable storyline and many other bits and pieces.] But to be fair as I have gotten older [even when I was younger I had this feeling, but I didn't know what it was,] that if you look closely but not too closely at this project, you can see and kind of feel which characters they wanted their audiences to get invested in more [potentially for later film titles.]

Here is just some examples of what I mean, first the one's given more details Wolverine, Magneto, Prof. Xavier, Jean Grey, Rogue and Mystique [please remember these are just a handful of examples.]

Here are some of the one's that didn't get much of anything really [they are there in this film, but no way as detailed in every way.] Cyclops; now it has to be said I have never been a fan of this character regardless if I was 10 years old or now in my middle 30's when this review was dictated. But having said that even from an unbiased perspective, I do feel that this character really did get unfairly treated, because whenever he is on screen everything he says or does is just so annoying and this is not my personal opinion speaking here, these are just the facts there is just nothing for me to point out and say "Oh that was good."

Sabretooth, all I am going to say is this; they really didn't do this character any justice whatsoever and whilst I am on the subject what was the point of Toad being in this film, seriously are you telling me they couldn't think of a better character to use.

On a side note, this is very important as it relates to Storm, for me she is somewhere between these two groupings, yes now and again she does get her fair share of character developments and so on and so forth, but from my perspective if I had to put her on a scale I would feel comfortable suggesting just behind the characters in my first grouping.

Fundamental core/Action sequences: now there was a very specific reason I did my review like this and it is to make this point. Depending on which characters are in a scene or sequence is depending on how the film is going at that point, for an example Wolverine and Prof. Xavier [sharing a dialogue exchange,] these scenes have a good feel to them as in they are interesting and they move the film forward without any problems and more importantly with some kind of enthusiasm.

But as soon as they add one or more characters from [the one's that didn't get much of anything really,] the scene or sequence begins to drag its feet a little or a lot depending how long the scene or sequence is

The same can be said for the action sequences for another example Mustique vs. Wolverine [they are excellent fun and well put together,] but in a nutshell [because I don't like repeating myself,] the sequences including the special-effects with the characters that didn't get much attention in this project, they look really cheap, really tacky and because this film is getting older their sequences aren't looking that good, but in the interest of fairness Storm's sequences look fine.

This film receives: 68% approval, don't get me wrong this film is good but as I may have clearly pointed it out in this review, it does have its problems.

The House of Magic 2013 [alternative name Thunder and The House of Magic] by AverageMansReviews

The House of Magic 2013 [alternative name Thunder and The House of Magic] by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: now this film is good, but it is quite tedious in certain elements.

Artistic visions: they are well shown throughout this project as there are many things to see, but I prefer the artistic visions from our lead character's perspective [everything he sees we the audience see it as well through his eyes,] it just makes the audience viewing experience a little bit more engaging with what is happening on screen at that specific time.

Storyline/Character developments: these two elements of this film are either really straightforward or so boring. I mean the storyline doesn't have too much to it and the character developments are quite painful to watch as the audience can see everything coming from miles and miles away on both counts.

This film receives: 66% approval, now to be fair the artistic visions show some great imagination in this project, hence why this film title gets the percentage of approval it does, but everything else is a big miss or a little positive, on a side note I had to stop this film half way through, something came up.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe 83 -- 85 [Volume 6] Episode 32: Search for the VHO by AverageMansReviews

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe 83 -- 85 [Volume 6] Episode 32: Search for the VHO by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this episode has some excellent elements to it, but there is no Skeletor, there are some scenes with Orko and there is this annoying boy character.

Mer-Man steps in: now if this was an actual film and I had this character standing in front of me [going for the lead role as an evildoer,] I would say he has potential, he does okay but for an example if I had to make a choice between  Evil-Lyn and this character I would have to go for Evil-Lyn [this is not based on their special powers/skills set,] it has more to do with the fact when Evil-Lyn is leading everyone has a good idea of what they are doing [she says things with such authority and her personality traits are stronger] and just for the record no one can ever replace Skeletor.

Artistic visions/Action sequences: now throughout this episode these two elements work off one another incredibly well, it could be the creatures in this episode [being interesting to look at, plus the imagination of these creatures is of a very high standard indeed,] or on the other hand it could be these action-packed sequences underwater and seeing He-Man swimming around, all the action-packed sequences are entertaining in one way or another.

Ending message: I know this is going to sound a little bit vague, but this ending message goes on about Scientists or people of a similar background making the first steps or something to that effect [I know that sounds a little bit strange, I watched this ending message four times just to make sure I roughly understood it.]

This episode receives: 77% approval, like I have already said the artistic visions and the action-packed sequences are really eye-catching but the boy character and how could I forget Orko are individually quite annoying.

Mortal Kombat 1995 by AverageMansReviews

Mortal Kombat 1995 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: now before I begin this review I would like to state this; I am very much aware that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but having said that I cannot really understand why this project has many people divided on it [you either love it or you don't.]

I mean if we were to look at this project from an overview perspective for a minute, it does this multimedia franchise [videogames, TV animated/real life performers] justice, if you had a list of things to put in this project to represent it properly this film covers everything it needs to and more.

Storyline: is something reliable, effective and not too complicated.

Artistic visions/Action sequences/Characters abilities: the artistic visions used throughout this project are amazing, it could be the landscapes [for an example where these one-on-one battles take place,] it could be a sandy location or in a forest or somewhere else, every landscape has its own little touches to make every action-packed sequence stand out in one way or another and it isn't just the landscapes in the one-on-one battle sequences that have been given this level of attention and detail, throughout this project there is always something to see or to feel [as it relates to the emotions from our characters or the atmosphere or many other things.]

The action sequences are superb, it doesn't matter where the action sequences take place they are all highly entertaining, enthusiastic action, action, action and more action. Now characters abilities, I am not going to talk about this too heavily, but on the other hand I will just say this; yes you will see some signature moves from these characters.

Cast: they are all amazing, everyone knows their characters inside and out, their dialogue exchanges are free-flowing, interesting and not forgetting, there are some pockets of comedy references [themes of a mature tone,] they come to the audience as little comments mainly in the dialogue exchanges, they are quick and snappy so they will be quickly said or performed and then they will move on with the film.

This film receives: 100% approval, I really couldn't think of another percentage to give this title other than this; because as I have already said it does everything to represent this franchise properly and to a very, very high standard, in a nutshell this film is a classic and should be seen once in your lifetime.
