Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WCW Starrcade '95: World Cup of Wrestling 27/12/1995 Match 9 Part 9/Conclusion by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Warning: flashing effects/colourful effects/biting/blood

Match/Stipulations: "The Four Horsemen's: “ "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair [with "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart] vs. the WCW Heavyweight World Champion “Macho Man" Randy Savage: Singles Match for the WCW Heavyweight World Championship

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 7/10

Match Slot Storyline: 9/10

Crowd Participation: 7/10

On Commentary: Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes 8/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 8/10

Recommend Watch: 8/10

Match Total: 47/60 - this match/match slot is excellent.

Comments: this is partly based on speculation and/or prospective; meaning perhaps they had a limited time remaining to fit everything in. So with that being said; this match slot has that presentation of; these two wrestlers using their chemistry mixed with kayfabe and/or in-ring chemistry to perhaps do a smaller version of their usual yet high standard of what happens when they collide mixed in with something safe and reliable as well hence why the Match Slot Storyline is so high.

Basic Results: "The Four Horsemen's": "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair [with "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart] is our new WCW Heavyweight Championship

Basic walk-through of this event:

* Tony Schiavone & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel: Commentary talk about what they have just seen "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair's theme music "Dawn." Schiavone makes a mistake on commentary by indicating Savage is your winner and then indicates we won't have an interview with Flair because of his head injury [I mean this in the most nicest of ways;] this is not too surprising based on it is a lot of blood. Our commentary team appear on-screen to continue discussing what they have just seen and to close this pay-per-view and I don't condone this behaviour and this is purely based on speculation mixed in with observation; it looks like someone spits from behind the camera or somewhere around here as it comes in to the camera shot and lands; the commentary team just carry on. I mean as I have just indicated I don't condone this behaviour, but experience wrestling people would understand that you are doing something right to provoke this reaction.

* Closing credits

This Pay-Per-View receives: 9/10, this Pay-Per-View is excellent: it is mostly positive of varying degrees that outlay of this cup idea was excellently laid out, it is in its entirety a well paced pay-per-view, it is well worth a watch and finally less than three hours watching time, you can't ask for more than that really.

The highest ranking match on this card based on attributes that we see would be: Representing NJPW: the IWPG Junior Heavyweight Champion Koji Kanemoto [with Sonny Onoo] vs. Representing WCW "Das Wunderkind" Alex Wright: World Cup of Wrestling [Best of 7; All 7 will be competed for] Singles Match with 54/60.

The lowest ranking match on this card based on attributes that we see would be: Representing WCW: the WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Johnny B. Badd [with Kimberly The Diamond Dull] vs. Representing: NJPW: "Mr. Torture" Masa Saito [with Sonny Onoo:] World Cup of Wrestling [Best of 7; All 7 will be competed for] Singles Match with 21/60.

Match/Stipulations: "The Four Horsemen's: "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. Sting vs.“The Dungeon of Doom” "The Total Package" Lex Luger; Triple Threat Tag Match; to become the new No1 Contender to face the  WCW World Heavyweight Championship against “Macho Man" Randy Savage tonight in our main event as in right after this match. [Additional; Lex Lugar on the ring apron to begin with to be tagged in and become a legal man, whomever tags out, becomes illegal and takes his place on the ring apron.]

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 8/10

Match Slot Storyline: 8/10

Crowd Participation: 8/10

On Commentary: Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes 8/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 8/10

Recommend Watch: 8/10

Match Total: 48/60 - this match/match slot is excellent.

Comments: as marking would suggest it is a consistently; hard-hitting the first thing I would like to make reference to is Schiavone makes reference to the coin toss situation, basically highlighting that likewise like myself he didn't see a coin toss and discuss things with his commentary partners. I am willing to give Heenan a break here, meaning later on he says something on commentary but he or his headset isn't placed or working correctly as you can hear him but faintly away. Rhodes made a tiny mistake on commentary but corrected himself before finishing the mistake anyway. Schiavone makes a mistake on commentary but Rhodes corrects him with the inverted atomic drop instead of the atomic drop, These three competitors all look better for having this time/match slot, there is substance to be explored in the future and finally without giving too much away I get why they took this outlay.

Basic Results: The Nature Boy" Ric Flair is our new No1 Contender for the WCW Heavyweight Championship

Basic walk-through of this event:

* Tony Schiavone & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel: Commentary talk about what they have just seen "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair “The Nature Boy" Ric Flair's theme music “Dawn" with Flair staying in the ring; with there being some fallout between Sting and Lugar; with "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart coming down to ringside and getting on the apron to talk to Flair; gets in the ring and seemingly aligns himself with Ric Flair.

* Tony Schiavone & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel: Commentary appearing on-screen to continue talking about what they have just seen and building on to the main event which is next; where Rhodes has a little blooper he says full force, I think he meant to say full circle. Schiavone hands us over to Michael Buffer so he can do his thing, Michael Buffer: Ring Announcer saying stipulations and competitors [with Flair and Hart still in the ring,] but nothing happens. Savage's music hits and Schiavone in a nutshell admits not of his doing, but basically a TV blooper, where he does his job but someone made a mess up in a producing sense. In the ring Savage acknowledges crowd with taking the microphone from Buffer and just gives it one "Oooooh Yeeeah!" hands the microphone back to Buffer with Schiavone trying again to hand things over to Buffer.

* Michael Buffer: Ring Announcer saying stipulations and competitors.

Match/Stipulations: Representing NJPW: the WCW US Heavyweight Champion Kensuke Sasaki [with Sonny Onoo] vs. Representing WCW: Sting: World Cup of Wrestling [Best of 7; All 7 will be competed for] Singles Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 7/10

Match Slot Storyline: 7/10

Crowd Participation: 7/10

On Commentary: Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 42/60 - this match/match slot is good.

Comments: I know Heenan is meant to be heel, so I get it, but when he asks The Dream about the fan base, even though he is just described what it is like [basically the answer to the question, before the question is asked.] I am going to put this down as a misstep, in the ring one of the camera people have accidentally gotten too close to the wrestlers [Irish with turnbuckle spot,] so you can see Sting saying something, let's try and keep kayfabe alive shall we. Schiavone has a little blooper on commentary when he says leg dreag takedown, when he should have said leg drag takedown, but then again you should have said corkscrew leg takedown. I think he got the idea that he had made a tiny mistake when I think both of his commentary on as repeat what he is just said and then he says something to the effect of we have fun here.

Basic Result: Sting picks up the victory to make it World Championship Wrestling 4 New Japan Pro Wrestling 3 - which means your winners of the inaugural World Cup of Wrestling is World Championship Wrestling

Basic walk-through of this event:

* Tony Schiavone & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel: Commentary talk about what they have just seen with Sting's theme music "The Man Called Sting"

* "Mean" Gene Okerlund: Interviewer is in the ring with team WCW as they are celebrating this momentous occasion, he talks to Sting and then put over this competition.

* Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes: Commentary appearing on-screen to talk about how things right now. Tony Schiavone puts over our next match and then sends us to a new package of them; Sting vs. “The Dungeon of Doom” "The Total Package" Lex Luger vs. "The Four Horsemen's "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair; Triple Threat Tag Match [flip the coin; to see which ones go head-to-head first whilst the third man waits on the outside on the ring apron to be tagged in;] winner to take on the WCW Heavyweight World Champion “Macho Man" Randy Savage tonight in our main event for the WCW Heavyweight World Championship; excellent video package put together and it mentions the stipulation I have already mentioned.

* Tony Schiavone: Commentary: whilst  Penzer is doing his thing Schiavone is explaining the rules of this match

* Dave Penzer: Ring Announcer saying stipulations and competitors.

* Coin toss: even though Schiavone makes reference to it, we don’t actually see it; Lex Lugar is on the ring apron to begin this match.

* Tony Schiavone: Commentary: makes reference to the fact that whomever wins this match/match slot will then turn around go head-to-head in the main event for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Savage

Satisfying Conclusion: 6/10

Recommend Watch: 5/10

Match Total: 34/60 - this match/match slot is mixed.

Comments: I don't have too much to say about this match slot other than; it does what it is meant to do, by protecting both competitors in one way or another, so I get it; you know as wrestling fans we get things, so it makes sense to do it this way. But as a standalone section of this pay-per-view this marking is a fair representation of doing things this way and then; yes it does what it is meant to do, it keeps everyone involved protected, but the consequences of this is; it just isn't that exciting.

Basic Result: the WCW Heavyweight World Champion “Macho Man" Randy Savage picks up the victory to make it World Championship Wrestling 3 New Japan Pro Wrestling 3.

Basic walk-through of this event:

* Tony Schiavone & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel: Commentary talk about what they have just seen with  “Macho Man" Randy Savage's theme music  "Ooooooh Yeeaah!"

* Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes: Commentary appearing on-screen to talk about how things are now [excellent comedy to be had in this scene]

* "Mean" Gene Okerlund: Interviewer he also finds this scene to be comical and move on to advertising the WCW Hotline, highlights the score of this World Cup of wrestling and then brings in at this time; "The Four Horsemen's "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair; Flair briefly puts over this World Cup competition and then swiftly moved on to his match tonight in a triple threat with Lugar vs. Sting

* Tony Schiavone: Commentary brings up what we have just found out about from Flair.

* Dave Penzer: Ring Announcer [graphic of this match; on-screen, but medium-size and sliding down the screen like a water park slide] saying stipulations and competitors.

* Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes: Commentary made reference to the history between these next two competitors for the final of the World Cup of Wrestling the WCW US Heavyweight Champion Kensuke Sasaki and Sting with "The American Dream" making some comments about this situation.

* NJPW’s Sasaki jumps Sting at the beginning of this deciding match, the up-to-date scoreboard appears on-screen briefly

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WCW Starrcade '95: World Cup of Wrestling 27/12/1995 Match 5 Part 5 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Warning/Disclaimer: flashing effects/colourful effects/choking/blood warning. Disclaimer my perspective is just based on observation and nothing more and I could be wrong, but something feels off about this interview/promo.

Match/Stipulations: Representing NJPW: Shinjiro Otani [with Sonny Onoo] vs. Representing WCW: Eddie Guerrero: World Cup of Wrestling [Best of 7; All 7 will be competed for] Singles Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 8/10

Match Slot Storyline: 8/10

Crowd Participation: 7/10

On Commentary: Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 44/60 - this match/match slot is good.

Comments: this match/match slot puts us right back on track of having at minimum positives matches, Schiavone calls a hurricanrana performed by Guerrero a head scissors, when it is clearly a hurricanrana [the first one] "The American Dream"; gets little bit glitchy on commentary for an example he starts talking about Onoo and ends with equilibrium, before I receive backlash of any description, I very much like his commentary, he is passionate and knowledgeable and he is mentally quick to have a joke with Heenan, but I don't want to get stuck in the point where someone comes back to me and says you are biased, if anyone else said this or did this you would be on their case, but later on Schiavone gets a bit of a mouthful from both of his commentary colleagues when he says german suplex, they want him just to say suplex, Schiavone indicates that the referee [Randy Eller] may have been slow on a pin fall count. As my marking would suggest the wrestling is of a very high quality indeed, but Otani gets a small busted nose, I think it was when Guerrero performs this springboard back to front cross body [on the ring apron to the outside the entrance side] it looks as if Otani takes a part of the body/upper leg across the face, because if you are quick when Guerrero you can see Otani nostrils look red; on rewinding this it looks safe from any safety perspective, but not the most smoothest sequences, don't get me wrong everything is fine  and as "The American Dream indicates it takes its toll on both of them and a moment or two later; Otani performs a springboard dropkick into the ring and then the blood gets mentioned on commentary as it now looks like he has also cut his lip [ but based on my viewing expense the blood could just be coming from his nose or/and lip as the commentary team have put over.]

Basic Result: Shinjiro Otani [with Sonny Onoo] picks up the win to put New Japan Pro Wrestling 3 - 2 Up.

Basic walk-through of this event:

* Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes: Commentary talk about what they have just seen over replay with Shinjiro Otani's theme music; unfortunately after a little research I cannot find the one I am looking for, apologies for any inconvenience.

* "Mean" Gene Okerlund: Interviewer interviews the WCW World Heavyweight Champion "Macho Man" Randy Savage and his double duty tonight; firstly in his World Cup Match coming up next against  Hiroyoshi Tenzan and everything to do with that and then defending his championship later on after that. Being really polite Savage could be on let's just say way too much coffee as he is really enthusiastic even more so than usual and what leads me to think this; is not only what I have just said, but he also quotes Toy Story which was released in November 1995; he uses Buzz Lightyear's catchphrase of "To infinity and beyond!" Not once but twice, yes I don't know if he had any deal to say that or he may just have seen it somewhere, but also including saying something to the effect of the current score, our backs are against the door [when it should have been wall.] Okerlund has just gotten off the telephone with a suspended Hogan and he asks what frame of mind are you in? As it relates to Savage which he says basically I am in the zone [this is coming from me now; you don't have to tell me.] Savage shouts out Sting! Says I can't say any more I am out of here. Then apparently leaves, just to come back and do is “Oh Yeah!" I mean I missed out bits but you get the sentiment, it was funny but a bit messy, you know as this Savage and went to The Ultimate Warrior School of Promos; yes it made sense kind of, but now and again it got a bit lost.

* Dave Penzer: Ring Announcer [graphic of this match; on-screen, but medium-size and sliding down the screen like a water park slide] saying stipulations and competitors.

* Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes: Commentary Heenan instigating things on commentary in acquiring basically so the WCW World Championship isn't on the line now? With Dream indicating this is the World Cup and Schiavone that later.

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WCW Starrcade '95: World Cup of Wrestling 27/12/1995 Match 4 Part 4 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Warning/Speculation: flashing effects/colourful effects/shooting/outdated sexist comments/choking/racist comment. Later on I will be speculating, but as you will see/read my point is potentially valid.

Match/Stipulations: Representing WCW: the WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Johnny B. Badd [with Kimberly The Diamond Dull] vs. Representing: NJPW: "Mr. Torture" Masa Saito [with Sonny Onoo:] World Cup of Wrestling [Best of 7; All 7 will be competed for] Singles Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 3/10

Match Slot Storyline: 3/10

Crowd Participation: 6/10

On Commentary: Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 1/10

Recommend Watch: 1/10

Match Total: 21/60 - this match/match slot is poor

Comments: we are now getting the scoreboard on screen, Heenan makes a mistake on commentary calling Sgt. Craig "Pitbull" Pitman, Sgt. Pillman, Schiavone picks up on this and Heenan gives us this; you know who I mean thing. I completely agree with The American Dream when in short he calls out the referee [Nick Patrick] for being out the position on a pin-fall and I have more to say about this match slot momentarily.

Basic Result: the WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Johnny B. Badd [with Kimberly The Diamond Dull] picks up the victory to make it World Championship Wrestling 2 New Japan Pro Wrestling 2. Now speculation, because I have no proof of this and this is just my opinion also, the way that things go down here; I have a feeling that no one wanted to actually take the loss, because and I know I don't usually give all this away, I liked to have some wiggle room so I don't give everything away. But in this rare case you will see why; they activate a very rare rule that I didn't know existed until I began to watch old wrestling, I think I have only seen this being used maybe twice and it is the rule that says " participants cannot go over the top rope or the instigator gets disqualified or something to that effect." No surprise here, but I don't particularly like this rule/claws, because it is so lame, here is a great idea if you can't book a solid conclusion to match slot don't book it; I mean they could have the losing party be accidentally counted out that would have still achieved the outcome they wanted, they could have gone with beating the hell out of one another and at the last second Badd makes it back in.

Basic walk-through of this event:

* Tony Schiavone, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel: Commentary talk about what they have just seen with Johnny B. Badd theme music "Don't Mess With Johnny B. Badd" (With Tron) with  Badd and Diamond Dull standing in the ring coming up the camera and basically saying we aren't done yet and showing support for Eddie Guerrero and Sting.

* Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes: Commentary appearing on-screen to talk about how things are now including Schiavone advertising/with a commercial coming on stream as well of the next pay-per-view would would be WCW SuperBrawl 96' 11/02/1996; our commentary team appear on-screen again, Schiavone to send us to

* "Mean" Gene Okerlund: Interviewer interviews to interview “The Dungeon of Doom” "The Total Package" Lex Luger [with "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart] about how things are standing in this Wrestling World Cup, The Dungeon of Doom and The Four Horsemen and the Triangle Match with himself [Lugar,] The Four Horsemen' Ric Flair and his good friend Sting, the WCW Heavyweight Champion "Macho Man" Randy Savage and in short Lugar tells Hart he is doing this on his own tonight which Hart responds I am paraphrasing here okay just bring it home tonight.

* Tony Schiavone: Commentary brings up what we have just found out about Lugar doing things on his own tonight.

* Dave Penzer: Ring Announcer [graphic of this match; on-screen, but medium-size and sliding down the screen like a water park slide] saying stipulations and competitors.

* Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel": makes a racist comment relating to Guerrero and Taco Bell

* Up-to-date scoreboard appears on-screen

Warning: flashing effects/colourful effects/shooting/outdated sexist comments

Match/Stipulations: Representing: NJPW: Masahiro Chono [with Sonny Onoo] vs. Representing WCW: “The Dungeon of Doom” "The Total Package" Lex Luger [with "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart:] World Cup of Wrestling [Best of 7; All 7 will be competed for] Singles Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 8/10

Match Slot Storyline: 7/10

Crowd Participation: 8/10

On Commentary: Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes 10/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 47/60 - this match/match slot is excellent

Comments: we have the commentary team being enthusiastic including Schiavone making reference and I am paraphrasing here; it is the first to 4 wins. For the match slot itself it is a hard-hitting a fair, so whatever away they wanted to go everyone would at the very least look good after this match/for having this match.

Basic Result: “The Dungeon of Doom” "The Total Package" Lex Luger [with "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart] picks up the win to make it New Japan Pro Wrestling 2 - 1 Up.

Basic walk-through of this event:

* Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes Commentary talk about what they have just seen over replays with "The Total Package" Lex Luger's  theme music "Slammer"

* "Mean" Gene Okerlund: Interviewer interviews Sting in a nutshell; basically a shout out to  Johnny B. Badd about him squaring up the score board [which his match is coming up next] and then moving on to everything Sting and tonight's pay-per-view.

* Dave Penzer: Ring Announcer [graphic of this match; on-screen, but medium-size and sliding down the screen like a water park slide] saying stipulations and competitors.

 * Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes Commentary talk about what they are just heard from Sting

* Sonny Onoo and Kimberly The Diamond Dull have this outdated sexist back-and-forth, Onoo tries to involve the WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Badd.

Match/Stipulations: Representing NJPW: the IWPG Junior Heavyweight Champion Koji Kanemoto [with Sonny Onoo] vs. Representing WCW "Das Wunderkind" Alex Wright: World Cup of Wrestling [Best of 7; All 7 will be competed for] Singles Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 10/10

Match Slot Storyline: 10/10

Crowd Participation: 7/10

On Commentary: Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 10/10

Recommend Watch: 10/10

Match Total: 54/60 - this match/match slot is excellent

Comments: as you can see there is a lot to like about this match/match slot, it just takes the momentum of the previous match slot and just carried on with it, but as you can see there were little problems. For some strange reason the crowd started calling out USA, you know that old chestnut. But however this makes absolutely no sense considering Wright is from Europe and Kanemoto is from Asia and then on commentary we have Heenan making a similar reference to both sides American and Japan having the same conditioning, but all they had to do was say team WCW or team NJPW and this would have resolved the problem and it would have been right as well. But let's leave things on positive this match/match slot is a hard-hitting advertising for these two very different wrestling styles meaning European and Asian and this just reminds me of how much Wright was perhaps born in the wrong time in wrestling history, because in modern times of 2024, he would easily be getting recognised as a glowing asset and someone that at some point would be given more multiple championships including main event ones as well.

Basic Result: the IWPG Junior Heavyweight Champion Koji Kanemoto [with Sonny Onoo] picks up the win to put New Japan Pro Wrestling 2 Up.

Basic walk-through of this event:

* Tony Schiavone & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel: Commentary talk about what they have just seen over replay with Koji Kanemoto's theme music "Yokahama"

* Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes: Commentary on-screen in a nutshell stress and concern over the predicament WCW currently find themselves in.

* "Mean" Gene Okerlund: Interviewer interviews is going to have an interview with Onoo, but before he does he is going to advertise the WCW Hotline with this graphic that comes on screen and then he talks to Onoo on basically how things are going for his side and in summary Onoo is delighted. Then Okerlund makes a small blooper, but also corrects himself as he goes to hand it back to Eric [Eric Bischoff] but he meant to say Tony [Tony Schiavone.]

* Bobby "The Brain" Heenan/"Wiesel," Tony Schiavone & "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes: Commentary on-screen again stressing concern about the position that WCW find themselves in at this moment in time.

* Dave Penzer: Ring Announcer [graphic of this match; on-screen, but medium-size and sliding down the screen like a water park slide] saying stipulations and competitors.
