Pay-Per-View Rewind of: NWA/WCW Halloween Havoc: Settling The Score 28/10/1989 Match 8 Part 8/Conclusion by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Warning/Disclaimer: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/fire/electrocution. Disclaimer I have never been or are likely to be a professional wrestler.

Match/Stipulations: Terry Funk & the TV Champion The Great Muta [with Gary Hart; the Designated Terminator for his team/unknown individual] vs. Sting & the NWA World Heavyweight Champion "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair  [the Designated Terminator Ole Anderson;] The Thunderdome Cage Match; Tag Team/Tornado Tag Team Match, No Disqualification with The Special Guest Referee Bruno Sammartino; the only way to win is if you're team's Designated Terminator throws in the towel into the ring, with elements of this steel cage being electrified

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 10/10

Match Storyline: 9/10

Crowd Participation: 10/10

On Commentary: Jim Ross & Bob Caudle 10/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 10/10

Recommend Watch: 10/10

Match Total: 59/60 - this match is top-notch entertainment.

Comments: straight off the bat I like how the commentary team put over the stipulations for this match including the fact that this steel cage/fence is electrified, which it is at the top at some parts, but they are differences suggest more than that, which I am not angry about this, as long-term wrestling fans would understand you just have to say "Good try at selling that." [But Ross I am paraphrasing here tells the truth later of the higher you go up, that is where the electricity is. The next thing is fantastic commentary, but the reason why I had to take a mark of the Match Storyline, because we have Funk trying to climb up the cage, he gets back on the apron, but it seems to be a consistent theme of the heels going up the cage, I mean it isn't a stipulation either you know to escape the cage and win, I get why the baby faces go up there or pull them off or other and that is to do combat, but not to imply they are trying to get out and for those that don't know this cage has a roof with electric going through parts and whilst I'm on the subject excellent horror theme on the cage as well.

Just to prove that these wires are electric or in fairness and balance it could have been the pyro that they set off as this cage comes down at some point, but we have personnel and a Referee [Tommy Young] putting out the fire, it is clearly a light. Muta as a dastly heel plays a superhero and uses his green mist option in his mouth to make sure this fire is definitely out by spitting this green mist up to where the fire was, the commentary team put him over. Muta gets a shock off the cage later on. But we move onto this very interesting excerpt where Ross says "Its great sports entertainment" now I'm wondering if Ross could see into the future and see these two words Sports Entertainment being a massive part of the WWF's future. Makes a reference to how Sting used to be in a Tag Team called The Blade Runners and how much he has developed, I don't think his partner has progressed as much as this kid has. Now I now and again forget this tag team name, but however I can't forget these two legendary wrestlers actually were in a team together at one point on one hand we have Sting and on the other we have The Ultimate Warrior; yes this actually happened from 1985-1986. If you have is good hearing as I do you will hear one person for a second shout out boring or something to that effect, which this is not true as you can see it. A cameraman Funk hanging roughly upside down, unfortunately a large bit of snort is hanging out of his nose as he struggles to untangle himself on the cage. I know there is a standing spike piledriver performed by the heels, this looks okay to me as it is Flair's hair after Funk's legs and Flair's sales this move and continues with the match, I was just thinking I would point this out just in case someone came back to me. Just for the record I know Caudle doesn't get the plural of Designated Terminators right, but between Ross and him they put so much energy into commentating that I can't be that harsh. It's like they put on a fantastic main event/generally speaking pay-per-view and I am more or less a little bit lenient.

We have Ross saying this started out as an Australian tag team event in principle has turned into a Texas Tornado Tag Team and he explains this where all four competitors are in the ring at the same time. I know I criticised Tommy Young for his refereeing over this pay-per-view, but with all this madness going on it is excellent to see Sammartino using common sense, as in still having that authority as a referee and his all-round stature still being in control, but letting them go for it. [And before you ask; I am done a little bit of research on the Australian Tag team, it means basically a normal Tag Team expression from the 1970s.

Finally we have a little bit of controversy at the end which is just brilliant storytelling.

Basic Result: the NWA World Heavyweight Champion "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair [the Designated Terminator Ole Anderson] pick up the win.

Briefly things to know:

* Jim Ross & Bob Caudle Commentary talks about what just happened over replay of closing stages with background music and then we have this commentary team on screen talking about this pay-per-view, promoting the next one NWA/WCW Starrcade 89 Wednesday 13/11/1989 and then they bring this pay-per-view to close with ending credits with Caudle saying something into his microphone " I don't know why you" that is what I heard and we are left with ending credits a great horror backdrop with Halloween Havoc 89 in the right hand bottom corner.

This pay-per-view receives: 9/10, this pay-per-view is excellent; what with having only one poor match/match slot and the rest being positive. There is a lot excellent excitement to be had with this inaugural pay-per-view, putting the poor section to one side they really did go all out to make this pay-per-view mean something even and I mean this in a positive way with the most simplest stipulations, be it Singles or Tag Team Matches with or without championships on the line with this cherry on top with this main event, including the quick turnover nature of this pay-per-view, we have an introduces segments or an interview segments or match/matches slot, I like this smooth and productive nature, mostly minus one match/match slots there is no filler, just a very enthusiastic productive nature to this pay-per-view and I have to  give a special mention to the crowd as they mostly played ball and when they didn't I can completely understand why, but even then they had a sarcastic cheer/grown at the end of the conclusion of this match, which I highlighted was comical, but other than that they were here for this pay-per-view.

The highest ranking match on this card based on attributes would be:  Terry Funk & the TV Champion The Great Muta [with Gary Hart; the Designated Terminator for his team/unknown individual] vs. Sting & the NWA World Heavyweight Champion "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair; The Thunderdome Cage Match; Tag Team/Tornado Tag Team Match with The Special Guest Referee Bruno Sammartino; the only way to win is if you're team's Designated Terminator throws in the towel into the ring, with elements of this steel cage being electrified with 59/60.

The lowest ranking match on this card based on attributes would be: The Cuban Assassin vs. "The Wildfire" Tommy Rich: Singles Match with 19/60.

Match/Stipulation: Skyscrapers; Sid Vicious & "Dangerous" Dan Spivey [with Theodore R. Long] vs. The Road Warriors; Road Warrior Hawk & Road Warrior Animal [with "Precious" Paul Ellering;] Tag Team Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 8/10

Match Storyline: 8/10

Crowd Participation: 10/10

On Commentary: Jim Ross & Bob Caudle 8/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 8/10

Recommend Watch: 8/10

Match Total: 50/60 - this match is excellent.

Comments: from what I know about all these wrestlers, not so much about Spivey other than he was the original peaceful yet sinister yet disturbed individual, as Wayne Mercy the one that Bray Wyatt adopted/his interpretation in 2012-2018, yes Bray had his permission to do so, it is absolutely safe to say that Spivey was well before his time as this gimmick and unfortunately this gimmick only lasted four months roughly from June to October 1995, before Spivey had to retire due to injury and I have only seen him wrestle may be in very low amount of times and I am including this occasion at the point in time.

But back to this pay-per-view specifically this match/match slot and for those old school wrestling fans can back me up here this particular foursome don't know the meaning of backing up, so it is very much a case of an hard-hitting affair. I mean without giving too much away I don't mind the conclusion of this match; for these four reasons. Did they look better for having this match? Yes. Did we have a different style of ending to this match? Yes. Do you want to see more of this feud between this tag team? [Just to cover my back either way I don't know if they did or not they probably did, but let's just work on here and now.] Yes. Did this match/match slot hype up the crowd for the main event next? Yes. So as you can clearly read, it did everything it was designed to do with the combining excellent standard.

Basic Result: The Road Warriors; Road Warrior Hawk & Road Warrior Animal [with "Precious" Paul Ellering] pick up the W.

Briefly things to know:

* Jim Ross & Bob Caudle Commentary talks about what just happened over replay of closing stages with the winner's entrance music playing

* Chris Cruise: Interviewer The NWA World Heavyweight Champion "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair and Sting [with Designated Terminator Ole Anderson] building up to the main event match which is coming up immediately next and now and no surprise this interview/promos section is/was hot.

* "The World's Most Dangerous Announcer" Gary Michael Cappetta: Ring announcer introduces The Special Guest Referee for our main event this evening Bruno Sammartino.

* "The World's Most Dangerous Announcer" Gary Michael Cappetta: Ring announcer introduces all the participants and then explains the rules [which on a quick side note the commentary team do this already for us the viewers.]

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: NWA/WCW Halloween Havoc: Settling The Score 28/10/1989 Match 6 Part 6 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Match/Stipulations: Flyin' Brian [with Cheerleaders] vs. the United States Heavyweight Champion "The Total Package" Lex Luger; Singles Match for the United States Heavyweight Championship

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 8/10

Match Storyline: 7/10

Crowd Participation: 8/10

On Commentary: Jim Ross & Bob Caudle 8/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 45/60 - this match is good.

Comments: as I have already indicated this match is good, it is a solidly good match/match slot , I know there is an inverted atomic drop by Luger that looks a bit sloppy, but in fairness and balance does carry Brian from one corner performing the 10 punches in the corner whilst going up on Luger; counter to Luger carrying him to almost the opposite corner to deliver this inverted atomic drop including Luger looking really sweaty at this point [speculation may be having grip issues or fatigue is setting in or maybe Brian is slightly in the wrong position, which he can't help this, he isn't the one in control at this moment in time and Luger is dealing with things as they are.] but this does not affect my marking, because generally speaking it doesn't look poor or an issue, but as I have already said it just looks a bit sloppy. This is still speculation, on reflection, maybe longer had to improvise, because maybe the idea was for him to carry Brian from one corner to the opposite corner and sit Brian on the top turnbuckle. What leads me to think like this is because after doing this Luger picks up to deliver maybe another inverted atomic drop, but instead he lifts them up and put him on the top turnbuckle to continue the match.

But we move on to the closing stages of this match, is something I don't mind either, it does come out of nowhere but never mind, you can have one of these endings now and again. But and this is the important thing at least it keeps up with the momentum of this pay-per-view.

Basic Result:  the United States Heavyweight Champion "The Total Package" Lex Luger is still our United States Heavyweight champion.

Briefly things to know:

* Jim Ross & Bob Caudle Commentary talks about what just happened over replay of closing stages with the winner's entrance music playing

* Chris Cruise: Interviewer puts over the previous match and moves on to at this time in the camera short with him is The Road Warriors; Road Warrior Hawk & Road Warrior Animal [with "Precious" Paul Ellering] building to their immediate match next and now with obviously their usual levels of high-intensity.

* "The World's Most Dangerous Announcer" Gary Michael Cappetta: Ring announcer introduces the next match.

Match/Stipulation: The Steiner Brothers; Rick "Dogface Gremlin" & Scott Steiner vs. Doom; Doom #1 & Doom #2 [with Women;] Tag Team Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 7/10

Match Storyline: 7/10

Crowd Participation: 7/10

On Commentary: Jim Ross & Bob Caudle 8/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 43/60 - this match is good.

Comments: this match is as I have already said good; it is a reliably good outlay of this match/match slot, it achieves what it needs to and moves on this feud, just to cover my back, watching and hearing the closing stages of this match so everything I am saying is purely based on here and now. If or when any of you would like to watch this match, I should just point out yes I know the crowd from time to time in this match/match slot go quiet, when they are loud they are loud so I gave them a suitable attribute mark.

Basic Result: Doom; Doom #1 & Doom #2 [with Women] pick up the win

Briefly things to know:

* Replay of closing stages with the winner's entrance music playing

* Gordon Solie: Interviewer the NWA United States Heavyweight Champion "The Total Package" Lex Luger about his upcoming match next. I have to point out that Solie asks How times has he been champion? Which in a nutshell he responds he will be champion for as long as he wants to be champion [Lugar leaves the screen] Solie has the final say and says he's been champion more than once which means he can be beaten. This interview/promo is a good old-fashioned heel work here, but also on top of that this comes across as comical as both of these individuals are very straightfaced characters/individuals and having Solie have the final say is faultless comical timing.

* "The World's Most Dangerous Announcer" Gary Michael Cappetta: Ring announcer introduces the next match.

Match/Stipulations: The Dynamic Dudes; Shane Douglas & Johnny Aces [with Jim Cornett] vs. the NWA World Tag Team The Fabulous Freebirds; Michael P.S Hayes & Jimmy Garvin; for the NWA World Tag Team Championships

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 7/10

Match Storyline: 7/10

Crowd Participation: 10/10

On Commentary: Jim Ross & Bob Caudle 8/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 46/60 - this match is excellent

Comments: simply put we are back to our regular scheduled positive wrestling matches/match slot. We have Jim Ross pointing out at points the value of a good education as the contenders for this match have gotten a higher education to fall back on and the champions are from the school of hard knocks as they got into wrestling sooner. Ross much later on makes reference to our Referee [Tommy Young] I am paraphrasing here he has won awards five years in a row for his high-quality refereeing, but I would like to debate that, because this would be the second time in this pay-per-view I am going to criticise his refereeing, Hayes goes to his corner to get his hair sorted out by Garvin and he clearly makes contact with his head and I would say this would be a tag, but our Referee doesn't do anything about it.

Douglas has a couple of botches in this match on the second attempt of delivering a clothesline to Hayes when, Hayes is coming off the ring ropes, Douglas misses his intended target of the chest and instead gets tangled up in Hayes' nearest arm, so Hayes falls forward on to his hands and knees. Which you have Douglas saying clearly "Come on get up" as he is trying to cover this botch up. Secondly a little time later in Hayes goes in to perform a back body drop, the old classic drop your head too soon giving in this case Douglas the opportunity to counter-attack, which he does into a old-fashioned swinging neck breaker [which is synonymous the longest reigning WWF/WWE Intercontinental Champion of all time; 454 days The Honky Honk Man; it was his finisher by the name of " Shake Rattle and Roll; it isn't exactly the same, but it is the model I am talking about,] which I have to be completely honest it looks okay until the twist section of this move, I am customarily to seeing wrestlers that are taking this move land on their back, not on their side as Hayes is, which after this Hayes tags out. Full disclosure I may be making something out of nothing here as I have already stated I don't know, but at the last second it just doesn't look right and I have watched it many times. Yes the audience is back in full voice with this match/match slot and finally Cornett is 0 for 2 on this pay-per-view which I don't mind not having a conclusion on this pay-per-view, that is the art of long-term storytelling I don't know what happens in the future/in the past, I just take pay-per-views by pay-per-views unless they get to the point where I know I have seen the previous pay-per-view then I may make reference to it when or if it is appropriate to do so or I actually remember which I probably will do, but I may forget by accident.

Basic Result: I know I have very much indicated the result but I still have to do the admin, so your retaining NWA World Tag Team Champions are The Fabulous Freebirds; Michael P.S Hayes & Jimmy Garvin.

Briefly things to know:

* Replay of closing stages with the winner's entrance music playing

* Chris Cruise: Interviewer The Steiner Brothers; Rick "Dogface Gremlin" & Scott Steiner about their imminent match coming up next

* "The World's Most Dangerous Announcer" Gary Michael Cappetta: Ring announcer introduces the next match.

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: NWA/WCW Halloween Havoc: Settling The Score 28/10/1989 Match 3 Part 3 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects

Match/Stipulation: The Cuban Assassin vs. "The Wildfire" Tommy Rich: Singles Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 3/10

Match Storyline: 3/10

Crowd Participation: 2/10

On Commentary: Jim Ross & Bob Caudle 6/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 4/10

Recommend Watch: 1/10

Match Total: 19/60 - this match is poor

Comments: well simply put; I know I have put 4/10 in the satisfying conclusion category, this is meant to imply " I am glad that is over with as it roughly goes on for less than 9 minutes." You have to respect this audience in attendance, it's like someone must have sent a fax [this is a piece of technology before mobile telephones, I know a world without mobile telephones is difficult to imagine, but at one point this was the case.] But I digress; someone must have sent a fax around that this match/match slot was going to be either uninspiring or completely missable as there was like 95% no crowd participation other than when Assassin lands on the top turnbuckle after Rich shakes it, to stop him from coming off it interfere, negative participation of boring or something from this area of expression, but I decided to award another mark on to their crowd participation category, because it came across as slightly comical when there is a tiny cheer grown thing going on when this match/match slot comes to an end and as I have already highlighted I feel their pain, just wanting to get through this section of this pay-per-view. In fairness and balance for those people that have been watching wrestling for quite a few years, there is an argument, a small argument that after giving an average of over 90% of energy so far in the two previous matches/match slots, they could have been burned out a little or I am leaning more towards why would they waste their energy here, rest up possibly go and get re-energised and make yourself comfortable you know one of these things, but we will only know this when we get into the next match.

In the ring Rich performs this sunset flip pin from outside on the apron to in and it looks clunky at best; Ross indicates as much on commentary as he says "I don't think he gets all of it" or to cover my back it is something to this effect.

Basic Result: "The Wildfire" Tommy Rich pick up the win

Briefly things to know:

* Replay of the closing stages with the winner's entrance music playing

* Gordon Solie: Interviewer the NWA World Tag Team Champions The Fabulous Freebirds; Michael Hayes & Jimmy  Garvin about their upcoming match next; yes it wasn't lost on me that Chris Cruise said it was his job to interview the wrestlers before they go out and have their match and yes I know both interviewers can do it, but Cruise specifically mentioned it in his opening section.

* "The World's Most Dangerous Announcer" Gary Michael Cappetta: Ring announcer introduces the stipulations for the next matchAnd then hands things over to Jim Cornett so he can introduce his team at this time

* Jim Cornett: Introduces The Dynamic Dudes of Shane Douglas & Johnny Aces. [On a quick side note if you want to look for something funny a little before this as this tag team is getting into the ring] Aces has chosen one lucky fan  gets brought over the guard rail to get given this cap and to have this photo opportunity with this tag team, Ace starts posing, but the problem is it is to the wrong camera, so it takes Douglas to point this out as he points to the right camera for the child and Aces Two pose at the right camera whilst Douglas is getting into the ring and may I just say this is very funny, because Aces A.k.a.John Laurinatis doesn't break a smile or anything, even when he was younger he was just acting like An much older John Laurinatis as in no charisma or no dynamic behaviour as his tag team name would suggest, then he puts the child behind the guard rails and picks his skateboard up and heads into the ring; yes if you ever wanted to know what Laurinatis Would look like with a skateboard, this will answer your question.

* "The World's Most Dangerous Announcer" Gary Michael Cappetta: Ring announcer introduces The NWA World Tag team Champions The Fabulous Freebirds; Michael PS Hayes & Jimmy Garvin

Match/Stipulation: "The Toughest Man in the World" "Dr. Death" Steve Williams, “The Greatest Combination in Wrestling" The Midnight Express; "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton & "Sweet" Stan Lane [with Jim Cornett] vs. The Samoan SWAT Squad Team; Fatu, Samu & The Samoan Savage [with "The Big Kahuna" Sir Oliver Humperdinck;] Six-Man Tag Team Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 9/10

Match Storyline: 9/10

Crowd Participation: 10/10

On Commentary: Jim Ross & Bob Caudle 9/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 10/10

Recommend Watch: 10/10

Match Total: 57/60 - this match is lots of fun

Comments: I will try and do this in chronological order; excellent engaging entrance The Samoan SWAT Squad Team; Fatu, Samu & The Samoan Savage [with "The Big Kahuna" Sir Oliver Humperdinck;]we have some fantastic commentary from our team for this match and potentially foreshadowing and a little later it gets mentioned again [yes as of here and now I don't know what will happen later, full disclosure even though I do work from the pay-per-view web page yes I know the results but what actually happens I don't know,] but I digress being mentioned on commentary Jim Cornett is managing another tag team on this card as well by the name of The Dynamic Dudes; Shane Douglas & Johnny Ace and the commentary is enthusiastic and passionate even though Ross has quite a few very tiny bloopers he missed a name it wrestler at the very early stages of this match you are looking for a back body drop being taken by Fatu, but Ross says it is The Samoan Savage, he does it again quickly and a little time after this; then again a little later he calls The Samoan Savage Samu and then does it again quickly after and then again making reference to The Samoan Savage but it is Fatu [I should point out two key facts; Fatu is the only one not wearing the identical wrestling attire as the other two at this point in history; this possibly may, actually I am sure using common sense, but I don't know indicating taging more in a tag team in the ring and Ross says all three are brothers, yes they are related but after a lot of research The Samoan Savage is a cousin [speculation on my part, being kind there is a possibility Ross was having difficulties remembering which wrestler was who or I have to say this very carefully, because of their wrestling gimmick it was perhaps easy to get them confused and I refuse to be highly critical or critical on Ross, yes I should still pointed out as I have and no I haven't re-watched this entire match to see how many times he did it if at all and in fairness and balance in a nutshell at some point; Ross does correct himself on the legal man, Savage no it is was Fatu and on top of that at another point he does praise a camera shot as well, but I was looking for another spot in this match, it was just fortunate I picked this all up when I did and the reason why I am not going to be too critical is simply based on the level of enthusiasm and passion he puts in, you can somewhat overlook them in fact I didn't pick them up on the first time around.] But moving on how shall I put this; there is a reason why the Anoa'i family are a cornerstone of wrestling; they manufacture a wrestling dynastie generation after generation case and point The Bloodline that is just some of them minus Sami Zayn.

I found the spot I was looking for; now we have Savage as the legal man for his team, in their corner Fatu gripes his cousin to do this peptalk thing the Referee [Tommy Young] takes it as a tag, because Fatu has touched his partner, but then Fatu puts puts up his first finger just say or indicate " We are having a peptalk" firstly he is breaking his character, because this is nothing racial this is how things were back then I am not condoning it, but I'm just saying it as it is. They are low IQ Samoan characters and on top of that and on top of that I am under the impression that the referee was meant to enforce the rules and not allow wrestlers to dictate their rules and the cherry on top of the cake Fatu touched his cousin again, so if he wasn't tag in before he is now but on the other side of the coin, you could kind of say Savage is now the legal man again.

Finally; the closing stages of this match is perfect, for those that have been around wrestling for some time, it is on its own something standard, but for here and now and what was discussed on commentary about Cornett managing two tag teams it feeds into the idea that there may be problems ahead, but also everyone is protected and looks better for having this match hence why I said it was perfect.

Basic Result: The Samoan SWAT Squad Team; Fatu, Samu & The Samoan Savage [with "The Big Kahuna" Sir Oliver Humperdinck] are your winners here.

Briefly things to know:

* Replay of closing stages with the winner's entrance music playing

Gordon Solie: Interviewer Terry Funk with his manager Gary Hart [Designated Terminator for his team]; they build up tonight's main event match which is The Thunderdome Cage Match
