Match Total: 35/60 - this match is mixed.

Comments: wow, after all of the hyping throughout this pay-per-view alone, this match was as you can see a mixed bag, I don't know what actually went wrong, actually I do based on my viewing experience. I don't think Gene Kiniski had any idea or to be fair to him, maybe they didn't go through the dos and don'ts of this match and it's stipulations, I also have to keep in mind that this was early in the 1980s so maybe they aren't going to be of today's stipulations.

But now I have tried to be fair, he kept interdicting himself in this match when he shouldn't have, like pulling away or pulling a competitor away from the corner because he wouldn't let the other individual out of the corner or the old chestnut of having a closed fist which they don't make much of a deal about this rule nowadays or for some strange reason he does this count like a Last Person Standing Match count thing, I have no idea why this is? Consequently because of his involvement in this match being way too much; this match and its mechanics and so on will it isn't there as in this match has no fluency or any great tempo to it, I know that these two competitors are not the most quickest anyway, but because of Gene Kiniski involvement it interrupts their individual or together methodical approach to wrestling. In the very late stages of this match we have this cartoon-ish moment, this could have been genuine, but the more I look at it, it looks planned out where Kiniski seemingly accidentally takes a clash of a head-butt from Race, it could be genuine based on Flair trying to get out of this situation.

Away from this Race performs this piledriver on Flair and if or when you watch this match it looks slightly wrong/botch as Flair's hair or head goes before Race's legs which as everyone should know a move like this or anything similar to this it should always be legs protect the head, but to cover my back as I have already pointed out this could be just Flair's hair but this is one of those quick moments where you just see a little bit much of the head at the wrong moment. When Flair performs a piledriver on Race it's a bit more sturdy and just in the interest of fairness and balance he has an Afro thing going on, not a full-blown Afro but I would say a little something like that and without giving too much away the final move of this match is on the most cleanest either, is he going to fall short or has he overshot, who knows you will have to watch this match to find out. The reason why I have given this match 6/10 in the Recommend Watch category is because of everything I have put here, you just have to watch it once. Solie continues to say suplex wrong as I have pointed out throughout this pay-per-view and at one point or another gives praise to howGene Kiniski done refereeing this match.

Basic Result: your new NWA World Heavyweight Champion "The Nature Boy" Rick Flair.

Briefly things to know:

* Ric Flair gives thanks and appreciation to the crowd over a microphone

* Bob Caudle, Gordon Solie,Tony Schiavone & Barbara Clary: in summary they are all discussing or/and catching up with the fallout of this match as Tony deals with the celebrations and interviews from the new NWA World Champion Ric Flair including other wrestling characters/performers including Ricky Steamboat or/and Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood saying something at some points, the next No1 Contender "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes shaking Flair's hand, but also alluding to add some time down the line I am next. We also have this trio of wrestlers holding their respective Championships at some point, to subliminally say  “We are the new generation of wrestling."  Barbara Clary has a little interview/promo from Harley Race basically saying “tonight is your night, but Ric Flair I am not going anywhere." We finish on Bob Caudle, Gordon Solie and then these ending credits over the final match which we have just seen.

This pay-per-view receives: 7/10, this pay-per-view is good; I mean after everything is said and done this mark is the right outcome I know at one point I have mentioned about the ring making unreliable sounds as it relates to if my memory is correct about the ropes, but it isn't just the ropes on reflection I think it is just a case of the revolution of the ring itself, meaning it was different back then, it was different in the 1990s it is different today and finally I think I have made a little mistake as it relates to the interview segments with their actual taking place, I think I have been saying locker room when it was or should have been in Flair or Race dressing room or dressing rooms with their heel or baby faces sharing dressing rooms, to do their promos or interview segments with Schiavone in the next pay-per-view I will not be so specific so I can't make this mistake again, but for here and now I apologise for it any convenience. But to leave this pay-per-view on a positive the crowd were there for this pay-per-view from beginning to end.

The highest ranking match on this card based on attributes that we see would be:  Jay Youngblood & Ricky Steamboat vs. the NWA World Tag Team Champions The Briscoe [Jack & Jerry Briscoe;] Tag Team Match for the NWA World Tag Team Championships, with "King Kong" Angelo Mosca as Special Guest Referee, additional stipulations no time limit and the Championships can change hands on a disqualification with 46/60.

The lowest ranking match on this card based on attributes that we see would be: Carlos Colon vs. Abdullah the Butcher: Singles Match with 16/60.

Match Total: 46/60 - this match is excellent.

Comments: what we have here is basically a clash of wrestling styles; the more quicker and athletic style [Youngblood & Steamboat] vs. the more slower and methodical [The Briscoe's; Jack & Jerry Briscoe,] both very technical in what they bring to the table.

Now because I have made reference to this more than once throughout this pay-per-view I will take a slightly different approach, Solie keeps saying suplex wrong in some fashion and it is irritating me. This is where the slightly different approach comes into it where to be kind to him kind of if it was a complicated move like a Hurricanrana to say [ yes just for the record I have spent the last 15 minutes, trying to say this wrestling move wrong and even with my brain damage I can't say it wrong.] My point being is because of this timeframe in history this would be considered a possibly/speculation on my part and exotic move, so I would be a little bit more lenient if somehow he didn't get it quite right, yes I would still pick up on this but probably just make a passing observation/comment. But I really don't like how he says suplex [souplay or soufflé or anything like this or anything like this] whilst I am here could Solie be a little bit more specific on which Briscoe is in the ring at that specific time more consistently, you just uses their last name and I just find it really lazy commentary, I mean Caudle says their full name or tell them apart and yes I know the difference between these two Jack is the much taller one and Jerry isn't the tall one. If you get confused on which one I am talking about watch the aftermath of this match and yes I would regard this as a botch as well at some point you will see Mosca trying to intercept Jack from the top turnbuckle and it is one of those occasions where  you get the feeling of " Okay maybe, just maybe this wasn't such a good idea."] Because Jack is so tall and Mosca isn't a small man, but in this case I don't know if he didn't catch him properly or Jack is just a big man, but Mosca crumbles under the weight of Jack; Jack partially lands on his brother as well, breaking up is figure four leglock on Steamboat Mosca roles over so Jack is now on the mat [basically if you use a little bit of imagination at this whole transaction between these two wrestlers it just looks like an extremely dodgy spinebuster gone very, very wrong but I digress] Mosca and Jack break kayfabe after many replays they say something to each other [I can only see Mosca mouthing something] and they go on the fly for a second so they can quickly link back into the script.

Basic Result: your new NWA World Tag Team Champions Jay Youngblood & Ricky Steamboat

Briefly things to know: this entire section feels incredibly messy and they are rushing to squeeze everything in that they should have allocated some time to these things instead of focusing on the main event match. Don't get me wrong I understand why they focused so much time to the main event match, because they wanted to give it a big-time feel and they have done that with excellent building up, but all I am saying is the consequence of that is basically what we have here or what they could have done is grab a word with the winners of their match after their match.

* Gordon Solie: over these celebrations of this championship change, he highlights the hard work that goes into making this pay-per-view with credit on-screen.

* Bob Caudle building our next and final match come on our main event and makes reference to having new Tag Team Champions.

* Tony Schiavone: continues to build up the match from the locker room [the camera spans across to Schiavone] interviews/promo segments the following; the new NWA Television Champion "From Out of Town"/"Down Town" Charlie Brown; next in the same location, Hyper" Roddy Piper and the new NWA World Tag Team Champions Jay Youngblood & Ricky Steamboat.

* Bob Caudle & Gordon Solie: continuing to build up to the main event, the fallout of the previous match and Piper. They tried to hand it over to Barbara Clary, but she isn't ready yet so they buy her some time, in wrestling terminology they put her over will a shout out to some of the fans watching tonight and they talk about Carlos Colon vs. Abdullah the Butcher, they move on to talking about "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes and finally they can hand things over to Clary.

* Barbara Clary: interviews "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes with some fans and their predictions on the main event match.

* Bob Caudle & Gordon Solie: continuing to build up to the main event, where Caudle calls this steel cage match a chain-link fence. Wrong it is a Steal Cage Match I have never heard of a Chain-link Fence Match, well so far in my lifetime give it time and I am sure Mr McMahon will come up with a concept like this or who knows you he may steal this wording from this pay-per-view.

* Tom Miller: ring announcer, it is time for the American national anthem sung by James” TINY” Week. Then Miller his thing with either technical issues that means he repeats himself as it relates to the stipulations of this match or gets our Special Guest Referee wrong so he repeats it to get it right; our Special Guest Referee is Gene Kiniski.

Match Total: 39/60 - this match is good

Comments: this match is good, it is a brawl which with the competitors involved is something you come to expect from these two, from the perspective of yes they can wrestle, but they can also batter their opponents; they will give you everything, every time so in this match they are like rams butting heads.  Solie says the NWA United States Championship is on the line, but later on he corrects himself [at the conclusion of this match roughly.] Now this is why in the match storyline and satisfying conclusion it only gets 6/10, because as far as I am concerned if this is the first of a legendary pay-per-view, I want every champion which is booked on the card to defend their championship, I don't mind the results, but this championship should have been on the line.

Next a cameraman points in his camera down before we move to the next camera shots [if you are on the ball you can see the moment it happens] next Caudle says foot on the ropes. [Piper] 1 his foot wasn't on the ropes they were well and truly under the rope and slipping outside of the ring and 2 this is a no disqualification match so that is irrelevant.

Next the crowd are quiet at some points in this match, but it isn't because they aren't enjoying it or invested in it, they are just intrigued or there is a weird atmosphere of being intrigued, Caudle makes reference to this on commentary as well, next the referee [Stu Schwartz] has no idea what he has signed up for in this match as he tries to treat it as a normal match, where at one point he gets in between these two competitors and eventually just falls over, can somebody teach Solie to say suplex properly please, because he even says soufflé or sue play again and next  Solie makes reference Piper being known as Hyper so that is why that name is up there.

Basic result: "Hyper" Roddy Piper picks up the W.

Match Total: 32/60 - this match is mixed.

Comments: as I have already just said this match is mixed, but as the marking would suggest on Recommend Watch, you will have to just wanted because this is one of those matches/match slots, where you just have to say " What the hell was that all about?"

Solie straightaway makes reference to another name for Charlie Brown hence why it is up there. Then the Referee [Sonny Fargo] should have disqualified Brown for using a chair. Then for some strange reason Kabuki client to the top buckle, whilst Brown is on the floor face up to deliver this submission move; The Claw and I get the mechanics of this submission move, but why come off the top buckle to apply it? I mean if you started applying this move whilst you were on the top buckle them to go down whilst maintaining hold of it I could get that that makes sense to me, but as things are okay it may slightly hurt more like a smidgen, but not enough to justify doing it in the first place or again in this match [just for the record; this submission move is well-known for being one of the most debilitating, based on the grounds in essence you are squeezing on the skull.]

Then I have to be honest what a complete and utter cock up this was. I should give you a little bit of background first, based on here and now as then this match/match slot  Kabuki with Hart has been quite clearly and obviously been built up as this ominous presence, wrestler/wrestling style and everything else. So how the hell does he lose from a pin after receiving an elbow drop off the ropes [as in running off them to deliver an elbow drop to the ground?] I mean yes Kabuki gets up after the pin quickly with Hart going crazy. But unless it was the worst finisher in the world "The People's Elbow" delivered by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson this outcome should have never happened.

We have Solie questioning the timing, so on some research I looked up the length of this match it was apparently 14 minutes and 12 seconds, but however I would like to squash that, by saying it was roughly 10 minutes and 28 seconds give or take a second, I have time this twice but either time length Brown is still within the time length of 15 minutes. I really don't like this 15 minutes stipulation, it just feels like a bad idea and potentially leaves things open to this level of confusion.

This is purely speculation; maybe they were trying to take this championship off Kabuki and protect him from the loss kind of with this confusion, but it doesn't go as smoothly or potentially according to plan. Because we never see Brown pick up his newly won championship and I did look up the record books, yes he did win it here and the very last thing I would like to put in this section is this; the crowd really did everything to make this match/match slot feel like a big-time deal, they were in the corner of the babyface Brown. The crowd as my marking would suggest somewhat make this match/match slot much better than what it actually is, so I praise them for doing that.

Basic Result: "From Out of Town"/"Down Town" Charlie Brown is your new NWA Television Champion.

Match Total: 44 /60 - this match is good.

Comments: this is a solidly good match, but this match/match slot isn't without technical issues or bloopers beginning with for some reason Tom Miller: ring announcer introducing introduces this match, walks out of the ring, bell rings, referee has to basically pause this match before it begins, our ring announcer is standing on the apron [ far right upper corner] and introduces the next No1 Contender in "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes after tonight's main event for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship [he is somewhere in the audience.] But this doesn't exactly go according to plan as this microphone keeps on cutting out and in, you know if this went according to plan I wouldn't have brought it up, but you can just feel the awkwardness in this moment.

Next; would someone like to tell me what is a either soufflé or soft play? Obviously I know what Solie means [ it does help when you have the subtitles on;] he means a suplex whenever he says suplex, but it is much more closer to my two examples I have given you an right at the end he does it again with Tony Schiavone, saying it as Tony Shthoney.

Basic Result: McDaniel & Mark Youngblood vs. Dick Slater & Bob Orton Jr.

 Briefly things to know:

* Bob Caudle & Gordon Solie: fallout of this match this is where the blooper with Tony Schiavone comes in, both No1 Contenders for their respective Championships first; Ric Flair for his match against the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Harley Race [which on a quick side note I am really looking forward to seeing, because with the greatest respect to them, I have never seen Flair this young and in shape and likewise Race as well.] Then we have in the same location camera shot/screenshot Jay Youngblood & Ricky Steamboat taking on the NWA World Tag Team Champions The Brisco Brothers [Jack & Jerry Brisco.] Then Schiavone does set up to send us to look at some recap of the action we have seen so far, but for some reason that doesn't happen, no it generally doesn't happen no editing, instead we go to our next point, it feels like and this is just speculation, but it does have that feeling of this pay-per-view runner or someone like that either changing their mind, because just maybe, the content wasn't ready or just change their mind, without telling the necessary people until it was too late, but once again this is just speculation on my part.

* Barbara Clary: interviewing "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes; he gives a promo roughly speaking about tonight's main event, I have said roughly because throughout this interview/promo Clary and Rhodes are experiencing technical difficulties due to this microphone cutting out and in to be honest it is more out than in, so we have  Solie giving us a basic version of what Rhodes is saying [in short: someone either fix the issue or if it is the microphone itself can we just retire it and let it hang up somewhere.]

Match Total: 16/60 - this match is poor.

Comments: well simply put; this goes as well as I expected it to go, just to make sure I had the right wrestler I went and looked up Abdullah the Butcher, I mean I knew I had the right guy, but just to make sure. All I am going to say in this version is yes I don't know much or very little about this wrestler and I will use that term very loosely, but by his reputation and legacy he is either one of the most violent or just the most violent ever in wrestling that at one point or another wrestling content creators will bring him up now and again.

Well straight off the bat we have Solie pointing out when these two were in Porto Rico this match was banned and for good reason. So obviously I had to go and find this match, but after a little research I couldn't find it, but however I could find these two battling at Capitol Sports Promotions Aniversario 1987 the Butcher has JJ Dillon with him. If you go in watch this match I have to give you a flashing effects/colourful effects/ blood warning also I would recommend fast forwarding the first five minutes, because they are just entering stuff and if you're wondering yes this match is messy.

But back to this pay-per-view; so we have a weapon being used at some points of this match they tried to do it when the referee [Stu Schwartz] may have a blocked vision in kafabe, but having said that he should have clearly disqualified Colon, because at this point the referee/we can see a weapon being used. But I do feel sorry for him even though he is in on this spot later on; he takes Colon lands on him when the Butcher kicks out a pin and then takes an elbow drop [from standing] which was intended for Colon but he moves out of the way so this referee takes it instead. I really, really wouldn't have booked the Butcher on this pay-per-view, for two reasons the first being this is the first pay-per-view of Starrcade he didn't deserve the honour and privilege to be on the card and my second point is; this individual is on now my viewing experience of two matches he is nowhere near a wrestler in fact he puts hardcore wrestling and the legendary wrestlers to shame, because they can/could wrestle granted to varying degrees but they could still do it.But in the interest of fairness and balance over these two matches, they don't make Colon look much better either and yes this would be the first times I have seen him wrestle as well.

Comments: as I have already said this match is good, as you can in its match/match slot it is noticeably better than the previous match/match slot.

The commentary team are solidly good, as in they will do a good job but having said that I am already getting the feeling with just two matches in they are not too far away from making a slipup or something to that effect, like as it relates to this match/match slot; Bob Caudle excerpt " I call him Kevin Hart, I mean Gary Hart" and just in case if you are thinking maybe Kevin is his real first name it isn't I have looked it up it is generally Gary, so I am no idea where Kevin came from.

A cameraman lowers his camera a noticeable again for a second be for we switched to another. Let's get back to the commentary; once again Caudle screws up on commentary, because basically; McGhee makes the tag to his tag team partner, but because he doesn't through the ropes and not over the top of the referee [Sonny Fargo] had to disallow the tag. This is garbage, how about we tell the truth now which is much, much more believable and realistic; yes they make this tag, but Sullivan comes in to the ring just before the tag is made, consequently the referee's attention is obviously drawn to him, so he is out of position to see the tag and every long-term or even short-term fan of wrestling known as " If the referee doesn't see it he/she cannot call it." See I told you the truth is much more better or even back then to be fair and balanced all Caudle had to say was " The referee didn't see the tag because he was busy with Kevin Sullivan."
