Match/Stipulations: The Mega Bucks ["The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase & "The Eighth Wonder of the World" André the Giant with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan & "The Bodyguard" Virgil] vs. The Mega Powers [Hulk Hogan & the WWF World Heavyweight Champion "Macho Man" Randy Savage with "The First of Wrestling" Miss Elizabet:] Tag Team Match With Jesse "Movie Star The Body" Ventura as The Special Guest Referee

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 10/10

Match Storyline: 10/10

Crowd Participation: 10/10

On Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon & "Superstar" Billy Graham 10/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 10/10

Recommend Watch: 10/10

Match Total: 60/60 - this match is top-notch entertainment

Comments: there is a great video package recapping how we have got here before this match [this has always been a great strength of the WWF/WWE with their video packages of any description.] This Main Event is everything you come to expect from everyone that is involved, this isn't exactly giving too much away; Monsoon says in Ventura's entrance to referee this match [Ventura is in the ring] Jesse "The Body" Ventura wants to be known as Jesse "Movie Star The Body" Ventura so I went with that name in this Pay-Per-View, just in case if you're wondering about the name change. We the audience/viewers get to experience what the WWF/WWE will become in the future in the very late stages of this match where all I can say is as everyone should know "Sex sells."

Basic Result: The Mega Powers [Hulk Hogan & the WWF World Heavyweight Champion "Macho Man" Randy Savage with "The First Lady of Wrestling" Miss Elizabet] pick up the W. here. Interestingly Savage momentarily looks miffed and the idea of there is something happening between Hogan and Elizabeth.

I have to be honest I am a little bit annoyed after watching this match slot, because it shows the WWF/WWE giving they are audience/viewers what they want and leaving this Pay-Per-View on a high with this celebration.

No I am not being a gatekeeper here; I am specifically talking about it doesn't matter what year it is it could be 1988 or 2021 or 3000 until the WWE re-learn that sometimes give your fan base what they want instead of doing something really idiotic and fighting every step of the way with them just off the top my head for an example; anything to do with Bray Wyatt/"The Fiend" Bray Wyatt or with or without Alexa Bliss with him there is just so much potential and material there which is now wasted. I mean they could build their own universe within the WWE Universe as individuals they could take one side each they don't have to like one another or having a newcomer or being attacked by someone that dares to come their universe they don't like it so they team up, with this kind of atmosphere of it is okay if now and again we destroy each other's plans but if anyone else does it then we have a problem; they could really built a horror universe or anything different can be built into this universe. But no the WWE in their infinite wisdom don't want to explore or give us something new or different or given time to build something other than this gigantic recycle machine where we are doomed to see the same thing time after time.

This Pay-Per-View receives: 7/10, this Pay-Per-View is good; I mean after everything is said and done including the impact of this Main Event this is a fair outcome, but one final thing and this is completely speculation on my part mixed in with an educated guess which could still be wrong, but for some reason there are some winners on this Card which get the jobber treatment on being in the ring no entrance or on their victory, I'm guessing this is because maybe they were running behind schedule or just running out of time to air this Pay-Per-View, but either way as this is a Pay-Per-View and not forgetting its inaugural one having the jobber treatment is unacceptable, based on the grounds you want to make this Pay-Per-View and those involved sound, look and feel like a big deal regardless of whomever they are; as far as I'm concerned they have made it on to the Card so they all deserve an entrance/exit of some description with or without entrance music if they have it, basically I am a believer in anywhere including the pre-show is an opportunity to put yourself over so give these people the minimum to do that in any way they see fit as long as the budget isn't too large [ you know something for every day and then something a bit larger Pay-Per-Views or stick to the everyday one but nothing unnecessarily graphic; but give them the tools to work with is what I’m saying here.

The highest ranking match on this Card based on Attributes that we see would be: The Mega Bucks ["The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase & "The Eighth Wonder of the World" André the Giant with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan & "The Bodyguard" Virgil] vs.

The lowest ranking match on this Card based on Attributes that we see would be: Bad News Brown vs. Ken Patera: Singles Match with 20/60.

Match Attributes:

On Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon & "Superstar" Billy Graham 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 42/60 - this match is good

Comments: likewise like the previous match I don't have too much to say here; other than it is another solidly good match; the match layout is the reliable format of two solid workers going one-on-one with a hard-fought match and eventual victory. Monsoon makes a blooper on commentary; "Jake The Snake" Roberts is currently here in Madison Square Garden with Hercules but you can bet his mind is on Jake "The Snake" Roberts." At this point in time Roberts was having this blood feud with another character and if or when you come to watch this Pay-Per-View this will become clear who it was.

Basic Result:  Jake "The Snake" Roberts [with Damien the Snake]

Background information: in summary before and after this match we have the fallout of The Ultimate Warrior vs. the Intercontinental Champion The Honky Tonk Man [with Colonel Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart:] Singles Match for the Intercontinental Championship; where The Ultimate Warrior unceremoniously dethrones The Honky Tonk Man in 31 seconds [where Man vows to recapture the Intercontinental Championship if it is the last thing he ever does; but spoiler looking up the holders of this Championship; he never does.

This just reminds me that once upon a time this Mid-Card Championship meant something and no I'm not being a gatekeeper here, it is just the fact remains as I have already said once upon a time this Mid-Card Championship meant something and it had this glorious prestige to it, where in these two individuals interview segments everyone involved just really does sell the importance of what this championship means and not forgetting the end of the longest reign in its history even to this day which stand at 454 days, which by today's standards in 2021 is all but a distant memory and one final thing in The Warriors' interview segment yes you get a small promo which makes some sense, but if you know anything about his promo style you cannot question his enthusiasm, but then again they are of a legendary status for being nonsensical; in one way or another, meaning sometimes from an English standpoint it made sense or it was just the content made no sense or from beginning to end the entire promo is the intelligence of a madman.

Match/Stipulation: Big Boss Man [with "The Doctor of Style" Slick] vs. Koko B. Ware [with Frankie the Parrot:] Singles Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 7/10

Match Storyline: 7/10

Crowd Participation: 7/10

On Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon & "Superstar" Billy Graham 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 42/60 - this match is good

Comments: I don't have too much to say about this match, because it is a solidly good match, the Match Storyline/slot was and is designed to put over both participants in this way; where on another day the other participant could have won, but today wasn't his day.

Basic Result: Big Boss Man [with "The Doctor of Style" Slick] picks up the W.

Warning: there are flashing/colourful effects at some point in this match slot with cameras going off and lighting.

Background information: before this match we have  Jesse "The Body" Ventura  being interviewed by Sean Mooney about his involvement in tonight's Main Event between The Mega Bucks ["The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase & "The Eighth Wonder of the World" André the Giant with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan & "The Bodyguard" Virgil] vs. The Mega Powers [Hulk Hogan & the WWF World Heavyweight Champion"Macho Man" Randy Savage with "The First Lady of Wrestling" Miss Elizabet:] Tag Team Match With Jesse "Movie Star The Body" Ventura as The Special Guest Referee

Match/Stipulations: The Hart Foundation [Brett "The Hitman" Hart & Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart - real life brother-in-law] vs. the WWF Tag Team Champions Demolition [Ax & Smash with Mr. Fuji & Colonel Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart:] Tag Team Match for the WWF Tag Team Championship

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 6/10

Match Storyline: 6/10

Crowd Participation: 6/10

On Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon & "Superstar" Billy Graham 6/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 6/10

Recommend Watch: 6/10

Match Total: 36/60 - this match is good

Comments: this match is difficult to score, because if we take this match in its entirety this Match Total of 36/60 is a fair outcome. The match outlay for this match is something straightforward using the Babyface and Heel formula, this can be echoed by the Crowd Participation as in really quite, but they make noise and pop when they should do; when or if you come to watch this match or Pay-Per-View you will understand what I mean, these characters/performers in this match slot play this crowd really well.

Basic Result: the WWF Tag Team Champions Demolition [Ax & Smash with Mr. Fuji & Colonel Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart] Retain their WWF Tag Team Championships here.

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WWF/WWE SummerSlam 29/08/1988 Match 5/Part 5 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Warning: there are flashing/colourful effects at some point in this match slot with cameras going off and lighting.

Background information: now because of  Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake being brutally attacked by "Outlaw" Ron Bass as we have already seen in this Pay-Per-View, the Censored; well kind of Censored footage at an earlier event, we now have no No1 Contender for the Intercontinental Championship Match here. So the Intercontinental Champion The Honky Tonk Man [with Colonel Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart] are always happy so says Hart in this interview with "Mean" Gene Okerlund earlier in the night on this Pay-Per-View; as Okerlund tries to tell them about this replacement, but the Intercontinental loves surprises so he doesn't want to know, so the Champion with his Manager come out first here and get impatient for an opponent; but they will quickly regret being impatient as The Ultimate Warrior runs down to the ring to take on the current Intercontinental Champion The Honky Tonk Man for his Intercontinental Championship.

Match/Stipulations: The Ultimate Warrior vs. the Intercontinental Champion The Honky Tonk Man [with Colonel Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart:] Singles Match for the Intercontinental Championship

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 6/10

Match Storyline: 6/10

Crowd Participation: 10/10

On Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon & "Superstar" Billy Graham 6/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 42/60 - this match is good

Comments: well first things first we have Graham saying on commentary I tell you the guy has had that title for over two years Gorilla Monsoon" [Lie 454 days is not two years; it is one year, two months and four weeks; yes I know technically that is three months, but I am trying to remain unbiased by putting these days into a calculator and it comes up in this; so I have dictated it as such.] Then whilst watching the replay Graham calls "a big splash" [receiver on the mat cross ways and aggressor comes off the ropes running and jumping on top of the receiver.] But Graham called it a "body slam" but in fairness and balance is quickly and efficiently overruled by Monsoon and calls it "a big splash" consequently Graham goes with that name as well.

This is one of those occasions where even though this match was so short and when I say so short we are looking at 31 seconds so yes this match is a squash match [squash match wrestling terminology means; a match that runs for a very short time, quite possibly with one opponent depending on the stipulation not getting much in the way of offense and consequently taking away the credibility of the one receiving the squash match treatment. So case and point The Ultimate Warrior literary steam rolls through and tramples underneath his feet; the longest reign of this Championship's history of 454 days [this record is still standing to this very day or just to cover my back in the future; when this was first dictated. ] On one hand looking back you could say that The Ultimate Warrior and others that were already around at this time as well represented the current and new guard of what was to come in the 1990's with their hard-hitting, colourful by appearance and attitude; so this was a unceremonious passing of the torch; whilst on the other hand Man was somewhat protected [a smidgen] by this; because he didn't know who he was facing for his Championship; yes I know he chose not to know before this match, but doing it this way it shows he is/was an Heel being cocky and arrogant, but it still gives him an element of protection from this loss. I know Warrior's entrance in its entirety is designed to get the crowd pumped and it was always guaranteed to get a pop, but let's show a little bit of love to the Crowd Participation for them making this squash match an iconic moment in the history of SummerSlam and in the first-ever one as well.

Basic Result: I know I have already told you the result but I still have to do my admin; so your New Intercontinental Champion is The Ultimate Warrior

Match/Stipulation: The Bolsheviks [Boris Zhukov & Nikolai Volkoff with "The Doctor of Style" Slick] vs. The Powers of Pain [The Barbarian & The Warlord with The Baron:] Tag Team Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 5/10

Match Storyline: 5/10

Crowd Participation: 5/10

On Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon & "Superstar" Billy Graham 6/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 6/10

Recommend Watch: 5/10

Match Total: 32/60 - this match is mixed

Comments: I don't know what to say about this match, I can't tell you something if it isn't there to begin with, but there is a lot of physical mass of humanity in this match and basically we have two Haas Teams; meaning of the word Haas in a wrestling sense means; a big guy or guys which are muscular and tall which are associated with hard-hitting smash mouth wrestling, so consequently this match follows that representation of wrestling.

Monsoon calls a belly to belly simplex [receiver Zhukov; off the ropes running towards the aggressor Warlord] a gut wrench simplex full disclosure with the added words "a belly to belly job." Yes absolutely there is a belly to belly simplex here, but of what I can tell there is no gut wrench simplex here [if it so happens you watch this match and you have a different opinion, there is no wrong opinion here; let me know what you think?] I have just watched an instructional video "How to do the Gut Wrench Suplex" just to make sure I was right and I was, but your opinions are still welcome and there are no wrong opinions, I just had to say this again because everyone is getting so sensitive these days.

Basic Result: The Powers of Pain [The Barbarian & The Warlord with The Baron] go over here.

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WWF/WWE SummerSlam 29/08/1988 Match 3/Part 3 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Warning/Disclaimer: there are flashing/colourful effects at some point in this match slot with cameras going off and lighting. Disclaimer now I have never been inside a wrestling ring and never likely to be.

Match/Stipulation: "Ravishing" Rick Rude [with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan] vs. Junkyard Dog: Singles Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 5/10

Match Storyline: 5/10

Crowd Participation: 8/10

On Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon & "Superstar" Billy Graham 6/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 4/10

Recommend Watch: 4/10

Match Total: 32/60 - this match is mixed.

Comments: it is okay of what we see of it, I have to say I find it outdated and weird that Graham makes references to the thickness [the physical thickness of the Dog's skull] in one way or another on commentary. I have said it is "outdated" because be you any culture African-American or Samoan [back in this timeframe Samoan characters/performers were portrayed as not very smart and stereotype characters for one example having thick skulls.] Basically if you were Caucasian you were safe from this level of racism. I am not doing a comparison here, but depending what part of the world you were from for an example if you were from Ireland there would be possibly an Irish gimmick or at the very least an element of Irish to your gimmick. I mean they did it with Becky Lynch on her debut in NXT, which wasn't too long ago in comparison to this timeframe in the 1980's.

Moving on to the "weird" I am not defending this language, but it is difficult to determine if Graham is being intentionally or intentionally or unintentionally racist [and I don't like dropping words like this unless there is evidence which in this case there is enough evidence, I stress again intentionally or unintentionally racist.]] Because he is coming over to us as someone being enthusiastic about this match, not forgetting it was a different world back then and times change. So I'm going to say this; Graham is more than likely just interested in calling this match, but he is just before or after [depending on your perspective; either way you want to look at it is acceptable] of being racist and just to cover my back and Graham's in fairness and balance; speculation I don't know if it is Graham saying these things or if he is being instructed to say these things from backstage if he has a headset on or not, but in case of any eventuality I just wanted to cover my back.

Disclaimer: I have never been inside a wrestling ring and never likely to be, but we have another back body drop that seemingly doesn't go according to plan as the Dog on the point of contact pushes Rude up and over rotating him too much so he lands on his coccyx [posterior.] In fact on looking back at this little piece of footage of this match we have Monsoon saying "Look at that back body drop he almost did a 360."

Basic Result: "Ravishing" Rick Rude [with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan] picks up the W. here.

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WWF/WWE SummerSlam 29/08/1988 Match 2/Part 2 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WWF/WWE SummerSlam 29/08/1988 Match 2/Part 2 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Warning: there are flashing/colourful effects at some point in this match slot with cameras going off and lighting.

Background information: Now usually I wouldn't bring this up but I just wanted to point out how stupid this is; there is some censored content before this match, between  "Outlaw" Ron Bass and Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, but it is a complete joke. Because before and after this censored warning in this content, we are still watching this content where we clearly see Beefcake graphically being assaulted by Bass and his whip and even when this censored warning comes up now and again you can still see blood because the censor warning is a cross with the word “Censored” so it doesn’t completely cover the screen, so they could have used smaller red crosses to cover up the blood. I know this is kayfabe and no I couldn't do much better because I don't have the know-how but how come watching Beefcake being graphically assaulted is okay, but whatever happens under this censor is not even though as I have just said we have seen blood and I know it was a different world back then and no I am not complaining about the content but even in the 1980's or 2021 it just comes off really amateurish and idiotic here is a great idea since as soon as this whip becomes a factor censor the entire be down and make it look a professional censor job as well. I will be discussing this later as well because it impacts on to another match on this Card.

Match/Stipulation: Bad News Brown vs. Ken Patera: Singles Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 2/10

Match Storyline: 2/10

Crowd Participation: 3/10

On Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon & "Superstar" Billy Graham 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 5/10

Recommend Watch: 1/10

Match Total: 20/60 - this match is poor

Comments: how the hell did this match get booked on this Pay-Per-View Card? Because it is just terrible, this match is so clunky. Monsoon and Graham are doing a good job at covering up this match on commentary, but there is only so much they can do. What they should have done is put this match on first and then have the first match second, because of two reasons; the first just to get this match out of the way with and the second reason is; because they can build up the atmosphere and momentum on the second match for this Pay-Per-View with a bounce hopefully for the remaining of it, because as things are; this match does subtract a lot of the atmosphere and momentum generated from the first match.

Now just in case if you're wondering why this match has 5/10 in the Satisfying Conclusion Category; it is good just to see this match come to its conclusion [so yes this is not a positive but it makes logical sense.] But let's be positive for two seconds Brown has a useful kick [he stands behind his opponent to one side and roles forward to deliver this kick with both feet [if you want to see it as a single foot, that is up to your discretion but there are two feet being used on the follow-through] to the back of his opponents head in this case Patera's head [this move is better known as Ghetto Blaster;] this is good.

Basic Result: Bad News Brown goes over here

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WWF/WWE SummerSlam 29/08/1988 Match 1/Part 1 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WWF/WWE SummerSlam 29/08/1988 Match 1/Part 1 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Chosen by: Me; I was just thinking I would take a look back at the olden days of the 1980's.

Warning/Disclaimer: there are flashing/colourful effects at the very start of this Pay-Per-View when the WWF acronym comes up and some point in this match slot with cameras going off and lighting. Disclaimer I have never been in a wrestling ring and never likely to be.

Match/Stipulation: The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers [Jacques & Raymond Rougeau - real life brother] vs. The British Bulldogs [Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid with Matilda the Dog:] Tag Team Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 9/10

Match Storyline: 9/10

Crowd Participation: 10/10

On Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon & "Superstar" Billy Graham 8/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 3/10

Recommend Watch: 8/10

Match Total: 47/60 - this match is excellent

Comments: this is an excellent match,  I am just going to come out and say it; it makes me feel incredibly sad that we went from this standard of tag team wrestling in this company in 1988 to a complete and utter dumb stuff fire in 2021 on the Main Rosters. Now I am not a gatekeeper, but like it or not you have to ask "How the hell did we get here? But I digress I have two points; but in fairness and balance I could/can overlook one point; because of how excellent this match is, I mean don't get me wrong I would have still brought it up here, because it is still worth talking about it as I have done, but not the other because I have been around wrestling long enough to know I get it, but then again the more I think about it; it just irritated me.

Disclaimer: I am not or never have been or will be a professional wrestler; I could/can overlook this; aggressor Raymond receiver Smith back body drop; Raymond's changes his footing and body position [not parallel and straight; but diagonally instead,] so consequently on contact it looks like Raymond pushes off/up Smith's legs too much and he takes a stiff landing, he lands okay but you know as I have already said that it looked stiff.

Basic Result: Draw; I cannot overlook this; this is what I find annoying this is the first match in history of the first ever SummerSlam in history and they end it with a draw, like I said I get it [speculation on my part] this result protects both teams, makes them look evenly matched, strong here. So they can continue may be building something in the future, I don't know I don't look that far ahead and I am far from a historian on wrestling, so I could be completely wrong and yes if this match was in any other slot on the Card we wouldn't be here discussing this; even if they went with the draw I would be more like excellent contest, fair result and let's move on to the second match on this Card, but because it's the first ever match to open this future legendary Pay-Per-View it has irritated me, I would even take one of The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers using a steel chair to one of their opponents backs, but getting caught by the Referee [Joey Marella] so he has to disqualify them. But they still look strong and progress the feud.
