The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 2, Volume 1, Disc 1] Episode 17: Autobot Spike by AverageMansReviews

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 2, Volume 1, Disc 1] Episode 17: Autobot Spike by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this episode is mixed.

Technical issues: the final episode in season one was episode 16, I went to watch this episode it had the number 16 beside the title instead of 17, or episode 1 [because it is the first one on the DVD,] but there's more you may have noticed at the top of this episode review there is Season 2, Volume 1, Disc 1 this is because when you go to watch this DVD on the start screen it should say somewhere on it Disc 1 I have no idea why this is; in fact I went back to have a quick look at Season 1's DVD's to see if I had missed something, but I hadn't.

Storyline: now I am going to try not to give too much away; here we go, unless I have missed something again, at no point does this episode cover how the Decepticons survived and found a way out of the previous episode, but moving on to the storyline, in a nutshell it is based around a well-known horror story just adapted slightly to fit in with this TV series; which in theory I should like but even now I am in two minds about this episode storyline for some reason, it's difficult to put my finger on it.

Character developments: so how is Reflector meant to work, because yes in this episode we get to see them do something collectively including being their transformed state a camera,] my point is this; when does Reflector stop being Reflector and the three individual characters begin being individual characters. There is some friction between Starscream and Megatron in this episode as well.

Action sequences: there are two double teams, I will only bring up one though, Megatron teams up with Soundwave [Megatron is in his transformed mode of Walther P38.]

This episode receives: 4/10, I am comfortable with this mark or just about comfortable, it was a difficult call really but taking everything into consideration I think it is about right, on a quick side note without saying too much watch out for Autobot [Brawn's] kick, let's just say with a kick like that he could play for the Green Bay Packers.

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 16: Heavy Metal War by AverageMansReviews

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 16: Heavy Metal War by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this episode is highly entertaining.

Character developments: I don't know what to say about this episode really, because I really don't want to give too much away, but having said this I am going to begin with the fact we have some more new characters, they are collectively known as the Constructicons, these are Decepticons their individual transform states are based around construction vehicles or machinery depending on your perspective, but either way it is something based on construction, individually or together these characters come across as intelligent amongst other things, so I would consider these characters individually or collectively to be dangerous.

I am thinking I am forgetting something [not really,] this collective also has the ability to construct themselves into another Decepticon, his name is Devastator if you think the Constructicons are dangerous, Devastator brings devastation on an astronomical scale.

Artistic visions: Soundwave is sitting down getting ready to see this one-on-one contest, the viewers can see he is relaxing a little bit because he decides to let out two of his mini-cassettes, one is Laserbeak and the second is Ravage, which he lays down next to Soundwave and Soundwave puts his hand on Ravage's head.

Action sequences: I don't want to say too much here but maybe this; generally speaking all the action sequences are lots of fun, I mean if I had to give you just one example how about this; Optimus Prime vs. Megatron.

This episode receives: 10/10, this episode offers so much hard-hitting entertainment in such a short time that this episode is very deserving of this mark.

Important information: I was about to begin looking at Season 1, Volume 3 but it is full of extra features and not episodes, but here is what the DVD looks like.

Panic in the Mailroom 2013 by AverageMansReviews

Panic in the Mailroom 2013 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this title is good; this review is going to be short because this project is only roughly 5 minutes long.

Comedy level: Kevin [the Minion] is finding what is happening to Mike [the Minion] very funny, eating popcorn at some point, including some of the popcorn coming out of his mouth with force behind it, because that is how funny he is finding it.

Artistic visions: I really would like to say more about this; but I can't because that would give too much of the storyline away, but I am going to stick with it is easy to settle down with.

This film receives: 7/10, as I have already said this is good.

Sniper 3 2004 by AverageMansReviews

Sniper 3 2004 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this sequel is mixed

Fundamental elements: there is background music, cultural elements, quick moving effects, slow-motion effects, yes and no to subtitles being used, words on screen, an interpreter elements, mental imagery, voice-over elements, place jumps and time jumps.

Action sequences: in a nutshell these are the kinds of element or elements you will see in this title; training with a computer simulation, chasing, combat and weapons being used. I really want to say more, but I can't because it happens pretty close to the end of this film, but I think I can just about get away with saying this; it is an action sequence and it is imaginative.

Performances/Storyline/Character developments: briefly the performances range from mixed or somewhere around here to good. Now before I continue I am not going to be talking about this storyline too heavily [because that is something I don't do, but I will be talking about an element or elements of it in a roundabout way] and I will be discussing the character developments at the same time, this will make sense the more you read of this review.

What would've made this film better is this; the lead character is getting older and the toll of this career/lifestyle is most definitely showing itself in one way or another and in fairness and balance this title does show/used these elements, but they could have developed these elements more, where he could be thinking something like this; "Maybe it is about time for me to rotate back to the real world full-time, but then again this is all I know" or something like this, so it tells or implies to the audience he is torn between his career/lifestyle which at this point he has been doing for a long time or rotating back to the real world full-time which could be difficult for him to adjust to at this point in his life.

This film receives: 5/10, now throughout this project I could have given different marks, but I settled on this one because after everything is said and done; this one felt closer.

Chill Out, Scooby-Doo! 2007 by AverageMansReviews

Chill Out, Scooby-Doo! 2007 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this title is poor.

Fundamental elements: there are cultural elements, background music, a word on screen, recap elements, no subtitles when another language is being used, time jumps and place jumps.

Comedy level/Action sequences: in some cases I will be discussing these two elements at the same time, briefly here are some examples; where Shaggy and Scooby-Doo are sledding down this mountain on an element of this broken crate which they have just been dropped out of this [I am going to say supplies plane or something like this] in this crate with a parachute or in another sequence they are snowboarding and one final example is where Scooby-Doo is boxing this Yeti with Shaggy being the coach in Scooby-Doo's corner.

Artistic visions: this title is colourful, neat and tidy and there are these 3-D elements [when these doors are open or closed of this monastery or if they are not 3-D effects there is something about them to make them stand out,] there may be other small element's of 3-D effects or something like this; in this title but it should be noted I could be wrong about this.

This title receives: 2/10, this mark is a difficult call to make on one hand I had it in mind when I finished watching it, but on the other hand because I like to be balanced and fair in my reviews, if I didn't get bored and check how much time was left, I could give this title a slightly better mark, based on the grounds that Scooby-Doo and Shaggy get themselves into some sticky situations in this title, but in short because I got bored and I was checking the time to see how much of this title was left, so what we have here is a counterbalance situation.

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 15: A Plague of Insecticons by AverageMansReviews

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 15: A Plague of Insecticons  by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this episode is excellent.

Character developments: we have three new characters in this episode, collectively known as Insecticons, at this point the Autobots have the Dinobots and the Decepticons have the Insecticons, generally speaking without giving too much away this is where things get more layered as it relates to the character developments. Because some people out there in Internet land may not know this; yes these two groups of characters may belong to the Autobots or the Decepticons, but if we were to look at the Dinobots  firstly, they are not evil characters but their personality traits including their mental capacity is somewhere between children to teenagers, which basically means they are going to say no if someone asks them to do something or at the very least be argumentative or anything else like this. Moving on to the Insecticons, these characters look out for themselves as a group collective, so if it doesn't benefit them there is a high possibility they will leave Megatron and the other Decepticons or anybody they are associated with high and dry for self-preservation.

Action sequences: here are just some elements for you to look out for in this episode; seeing what these new characters can do, moving on to this double-team between Optimus Prime and Autobot [Brawn,] where Optimus Prime throws Brawn up to take on/land on in the air this Insecticon Shrapnel [on a quick side note this could be the wrong name for this Insecticon,] I have been looking at pictures and I even got a secondary opinion from someone else just to make sure that the picture or character I was looking at was the same in the episode, so apologies if I have gotten it wrong.

Reflector: now because I have been talking about small groups of characters, I should take some time to talk about a group of characters that go by the name of Reflector [they are Decepticons, their transformed state is of a camera,] there are three of them and their names are Viewfinder, Spectro and Spyglass, they are around before the Dinobots and now the Insecticons. I don't know too much about these characters in fact I had to go and research elements of this paragraph, because I could be wrong about this; but is it me or don't we see these characters being used that often and before I receive feedback, I think we get to see them as individual characters here and there, but not as Reflector, [at this point I think this collective has been used twice in this TV series up to this point,] before I say my next comment I just want to point out I believe it to be a fair one; I guess if these characters were used more often individually or together throughout the years I may have got to know them better and it doesn't help that these characters are identical in every way such as physically and verbally when they are together as a collective but three different characters. [Now for one example they could have different things on their bodies or anywhere on them as long as it relates to their transformed form, for the audience to know who is who.]

This episode receives: 8/10, after taking everything into consideration including things I haven't discussed for one example the triple-teams where most of the Autobots work together in two sets of threes [that is as much as you’re going to get from me] this mark feels right.

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 14: Countdown to Extinction by AverageMansReviews

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 14: Countdown to Extinction by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this episode is lots of fun.

Storyline: I am not going to tell you anything about this storyline, but instead I will make this observation; now having seen this episode I am 99.9% sure that this episode should have been a Part Four of the previous three episodes, let me put it this way; it has everything in place to be connected to the previous episodes minus two things and that is the words Part Four or a number depending on how you would like to look at it or a connecting title of some description and that is it. I am not seeing this is a down side, but it is one of those things I should be pointing out nonetheless.

Character developments/Artistic visions
/Action sequences:well I can sum up these three elements in these glorious examples, where we have Optimus Prime and Megatron having these dialogue exchanges including with Decepticon [Shockwave involved at some stage,] on top of that we have these action elements between these two icons and this iconic image of Optimus Prime using Megatron[in his transformed mode of Walther P38.] Yes there is so much you can take from this episode like for an example we the audience gets to spend more time on Cybertron, I haven't forgotten about this iconic planet, but I don't want to talk about it, too much or too often as we are only roughly still near at the beginning of this TV series.

This episode receives: 10/10, I really couldn't think of anything less to give this episode, because if you have been reading my reviews long enough you know, I don't discuss everything in one project and how much I try not to split hairs in my marks, but as I have already said there is so much you can take away from this episode.

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 13: The Ultimate Doom - Part Three Revival by AverageMansReviews

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 13: The Ultimate Doom - Part Three Revival by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this is another excellent episode

Character developments/Artistic visions: throughout this three parter storyline there is friction or something to this effect, between these three characters Megatron, Starscream and Dr. Arkeville, I should just point out the reason why I am bringing it up now, is because as everyone should know by now I don't discuss everything in every project I review, but then again this is something I should bring up so here we are.

Well so far in one way or another I have said that the relationship between Megatron and Starscream is let's just say combustible, now if we include Dr. Arkeville into this as well, this is not a functional triangle to say the very least, it feels like these characters are looking out for their own interests first and pretty much nothing else, it has to be said that if only these characters could get on the same page they would be a dangerous trio or including Soundwave a very dangerous quartet. [Before someone points this out; yes I am aware that if I was to include Soundwave it wouldn't just be a quartet, there would be more characters than that.]

Now moving on to the artistic visions, I have chosen to talk about when Dr. Arkeville is hanging on and this giant hand [Starscream's hand] comes out of the water to kind of rescue him, I say kind of simply because that is what this hand does, but his motives are not of kindness but instead he still needs Dr. Arkeville for something, so this sequence begins with Starscream's hand and more of him coming through the water with this dialogue exchange, then flying off with Dr. Arkeville in his thumb and finger [like a pinching motion,] then transforms in mid-air to put Dr. Arkeville inside his cockpit [Starscream's transformed mode is of  Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor and I should just quickly say this is a rough description of this sequence,] but I like it.

Action sequences/Comedy level: one example look out for the Autobots on surfboards, it can be seen as both of these elements as Autobot [Bluestreak,] panics about this tidal wave behind them.

This episode receives: 8/10, as I have already said this is another excellent episode.

Firefox 1982 by AverageMansReviews

Firefox 1982 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this title is good

Fundamental elements: there are cultural elements, mental imagery, no subtitles when another language is being used, background music which is really noticeable, time jumps and place jumps.

Action sequences: there are weapons being used, fighter jets and other elements. Now I can't say too much about the fighter jet or the fighter jets elements, because it is a major point to the storyline. But I can say this; yes by today's standards they are looking vintage, but they still look good and still give a lot to this title.

Performances/Character developments: without splitting too many hairs they range from somewhere around mixed to good, it is difficult to say because later on in this project you have two characters that are on the same side, but there is clearly some friction on how to deal with this situation, I can't clearly say these performances are poor, because they are not but it is just strange, from this perspective it is more than okay to have some kind of friction between these two characters because of this top priority situation that has developed and is still developing as they speak. But having said all this; it does come across as elements of an old married couple now and again or something to this effect, it is something that once you begin to notice it; it is something that sticks out, so all I am going to say is I don't know if it is the performers themselves or the character developments, but either way as I have already said it is just strange.

This film receives: 6/10, I have to be very careful on what I say next; but let's just say after 136 minutes I want a better ending than this; so taking everything into consideration this mark feels right.

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 12: The Ultimate Doom - Part Two Search by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this episode is excellent

Character developments: Megatron and Starscream have this disagreement, in this scene or sequence we see Megatron punching Starscream and other actions, basically the audience sees Megatron, reminding Starscream of his place and he only gives one warning.

Tire change: throughout all this carnage, Autobot [Bumblebee in his transformed mode of Volkswagen Beetle,] needs a tire changed so he gets Spike Witwicky to assist him, on a side note you may be wondering why now and again I put these characters allegiances, because my thinking process is this; not everyone reading this may know this; and just for the record yes as it relates to Starscream, Megatron and possibly others I have left them alone because I will either be discussing it later or it is common knowledge who Megatron is [and if it should happen for an example you don't know who Megatron is; where have you been seriously, this character is not just a legend in this franchise, but he should be mentioned in conversations when people discuss cartoon villains or something to this effect as well.

Action sequences/Artistic visions: for one example the Dinobots sequence on how these characters work together or individually doing their part, highlights some of their abilities and strengths in one way or another and this sequence is very well put together.

This episode receives: 8/10: because this is the second episode of three [storyline wise,] it moves things along nicely and it sets everything up for the third episode.

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 11: The Ultimate Doom - Part One Brainwash by AverageMansReviews

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 11: The Ultimate Doom - Part One Brainwash by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this is another episode which is lots of fun.

Storyline/Character developments: now I can't say too much about this storyline anyway because it has parts, but what I can say about it is this; I do like how sometimes throughout this episode these characters have been sectioned off a little bit doing different things, now as it relates to their character developments because they are in smaller numbers for a little while it gives these characters a little bit more time to breathe on screen which for one example; the audience sees and listens to; these two Decepticons [Starscream and Skywarp having this argument in front of another Decepticon Thundercracker.]

Action sequences/Artistic visions: there are many examples to choose from, but I will stick to the on the water/underwater sequences when the Autobots have these skis on in their vehicle states so they can travel across water or some time later there is this action sequence underwater where for one example Bumblebee gets hold of this missile and swims around with its velocity to redirect it to its sender [Decepticon Thundercracker] with Bumblebee saying Hey Thundercracker does this belong to you.

This episode receives: 10/10, even though I have just discussed some elements of this episode in this review, there is so much going on that just based on part one of this three parter, the other two parts must or hopefully have a similar outlay to them of being lots of fun to watch, on a quick side note if you are wondering where I have got this title from; it is from the UK DVD and back of its case.

Resident Evil: Extinction 2007 by AverageMansReviews

Resident Evil: Extinction 2007 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this sequel is mixed.

Fundamental elements: there are voice-over elements, background music, mental imagery, quick moving effects, slow-motion effects, cultural elements, place jumps and time jumps. Now is it just me or does this project feel longer than what it is [roughly 90 minutes long,] because briefly it does feel like this film has either no get up and go to it or very little in the way of get up and go to it, that it contributes a lot to this mark at the bottom of this review.

Artistic visions/Action sequences: I will be discussing these two elements at the same time, the crows sequence [I should just point out I think these are crows but I could be wrong about this,] this sequence is chaotic as these many, many crows that have eaten zombie bits and pieces are now looking for something else to eat [this was possibly the most nicest way I could have put this,] so the viewers see how these crows move and so on amongst other things as well, what with the action on top of this including how our lead role makes herself known, this sequence has imagination from an artistic perspective and an action sequence perspective and on quick side note yes there are plenty of weapons being used in this title.

Performances: generally speaking I don't know what to think about most of these performances, based on the fundamental elements I have already discussed in this review, I mean it does feel like one effects the other [in a nutshell maybe if the fundamental elements and the movement of this title was better, it would have a knock on effect to the rest of the project,] but having said that these performances feel like they are mixed or somewhere around here or less, moving on to the lead role she does either make a mixture between make something out of what was given to her or make an impact, but either way if you like this franchise or not this performer makes this role her very own in this franchise.

This film receives: 4/10, yes it is very true I have given this title this mark with taking everything into consideration, but after watching it I did feel like I had just run a marathon, my concentration was giving away on me whilst watching this title, the fundamental elements, the general movement and other things about this sequel are in short is not easy to settle down with, in the slightest.

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 10: War of the Dinobots by AverageMansReviews

The Transformers 1984 -- 1987 [Season 1, Volume 2] Episode 10: War of the Dinobots by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this episode is lots of fun.

Artistic visions/Action sequences: this is just a rough description of this sequence of events; when Optimus Prime uses his Ion blaster to take off a chunk of this meteorite it is really easy on the eyes because in a nutshell this meteorite is on the big side with a very noticeable colour system with this iconic character roughly standing in front of it but to one side using his weapon at some point and talking to other characters [on a very quick side note this scene or sequence is at night as well.]

The action sequences they are all highly entertaining briefly here are two examples, without giving too much away, on one hand in one sequence you have Soundwave spying/gathering Intel for Megatron and on the other hand we have Dinobots vs. Optimus Prime.

Character developments: the viewers find out a little bit more about some of the Dinobots personalities in this episode.

This episode receives: 10/10, as I have already said this episode is lots of fun and as I haven't said this for some time please remember I never discuss everything about a project in question, so as it relates to this episode this is just some of the elements.

Pacific Rim: Uprising 2018 by AverageMansReviews

Pacific Rim: Uprising 2018 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this project is mixed

Fundamental elements: there are cultural elements, background music, words on screen, voice-over elements, quick moving effects, mental imagery, slow-motion effects, yes and no to subtitles being used [it should be noted that the subtitles are yellow and sometimes they clash with the scene underneath them I think the same can be said for the words on screen as well,] time jumps and place jumps.

Storyline: now I am sitting here trying to remember more about this sequel and I can remember some elements, but the more I think about it, the more I think this sequel was potentially designed to build on to another sequel in the future, now I am not saying that there will be a sequel in the future, I am simply basing my opinion on this title [so I could be wrong.] But then again it just feels like this project pretty much covers the background details of not only this sequel, but the potential sequel in the future as well, so in essence if there was to be a sequel in the future they could do a little background work, but could just focus on moving forward with everything else in that title because they had pretty much dealt with the background material here and now, which if The Amazing Spiderman 2 2014 film title has shown us is a really dangerous way to do things simply based on the facts the third film may never be made.

Action sequences/Artistic visions: now I know this is going to sound strange, but it will make sense or hopefully makes sense at some point. Because of the storyline when the action sequences and the artistic visions in those action sequences are being used or in effect, generally speaking I think I like them, I say I think because maybe I was partially switching off mentally because of the storyline which affected my viewing experience of this sequel on these levels as well [in theory it is like saying I know I should be enjoying these two elements, but maybe because of the storyline, my interest in them wasn't either really there or there, But at the same time from an unbiased perspective I know they look good.

Character developments/Performances: the character developments are nothing special, it doesn't matter if they are returning characters or new characters, but in fairness and balance consequently I cannot be too hard on the performers themselves, because briefly they are just making something out of what was given to them, so in a nutshell they range from mixed or somewhere around here to good.

This film receives: 5/10, I don't know what to say about this sequel really other than if there is a sequel [once again I am not saying there will be a sequel,] but they will have to do something big, this is just a suggestion focus on a non-stop action fest/artistic spectacle and make the storyline the final battle kind of thing, that way they can logically justify this sequel and finish off with a trilogy, in the next title for all this groundwork to be worthwhile watching in this project.
