AJ Styles vs. Champ Cody Rhodes; "I Quit" Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship: straight off the bat; even before the intro into this event we have Michael Cole making reference to tonight will be McIntyre's night as it relates to his championship match, regardless of the result this has majorly irritated me already and we are only less than a few minutes or so in and whilst I am on the subject; this event was/is a waste of time based on two excellent reasons; the first the tickets were too expensive and second it was incredibly stupid to put on this Premium Live Event at this time considering most of Scotland won't be in Scotland, they would have been in Germany as Scotland qualified for the soccer/football European Championships/EURO 2024: Germany vs. Scotland Friday 14/06/2024 opening of this tournament and considering it happens just as often as Donald Trump tells the truth, I think generally speaking the Scottish public would have preferred to go to this match and just for the record this wrestling event took place on Saturday 15/06/2024. I mean hypothetically speaking it is possible to perhaps to do both of these events if the individual has the resources, but let's be realistic most won't have the resources.
But let's get on with this match/match slot; Cole talks about how this match came to be; but my question is how can you force Rhodes' hand and earn this opportunity? This in itself is a contradiction; I mean you could earn something then by consequently forcing someone's hand, but you can't do it the other way round.
An attempted suplex to the outside of the ring nearest the commentary table; spill out looks a bit stiff for both competitors. Then we move on to a very uncomfortable spot where Styles performs a death valley driver style of move as he is standing by the commentary table so Rhodes lands on the table; but unfortunately either Styles or/and Rhodes don't have enough time to go around his head so; his head, neck and shoulders take the bump and to back me up; we have Wade Barrett putting this over on commentary that Rhodes in a nutshell/paraphrasing listing where Rhodes has just taken the bump. No, I am done here, I may not be a wrestler and no I will never have that opportunity. But what I saw next I don't care if these two are veterans, because if A EW would have done this everyone would be going mental. But as it is the WWE seemingly it is fine; having Styles perform a brainbuster using the close to the edge of the commentary table directly after the very scary previous move, because I couldn't see it properly, yet again I don't care if the brainbuster went perfectly.
For those experienced individuals; allow me to make myself clear; I mean if this is in the match out way then come back and do it later or give it a break for a minute, but to do it so soon after a previous move didn't go exactly smoothly is just I would say most definitely irritating fate and that is one individual you don't want to screw with.
Corey Graves very quickly corrects himself with saying the right opponents name, call Cole makes a slight reference to Jake "The Snake" Roberts when this bag comes into play, then from the crowd we have "This is awesome" which I have to say I beg to differ. Rhodes performs a third crossroads on to the chair, but he in essence takes the chair shot as he rolls through clearly checking on the back of his head, it wasn't the best ending anyway, so I will award one more mark based on the crowd reception and the conclusion of this match slot, but having said that I didn't like this match at all, but then we have Cole pushing the narrative that because of the ending of this match Styles is now bleeding, but this would be wrong, as best as I can tell, Rhodes used these handcuffs to open up Styles and not the steel steps and Graves agrees with him. This match/match slot receives: 5/10.
Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn vs. Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark vs. Champs Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill; Triple Threat Tag Team Match for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship: we have a powerbomb/suplex avalanche combination in the far right corner, where I hope Graves makes reference to The Road Warriors Dawn was/is okay because she was at the bottom of it, where instantaneously she gave off a very loud pain sound, yes she did continue the match and she did look okay. But at the time it didn't look/sound too pleasant and we have commentary putting was over as well. Straight up that I would like to echo the same sentiment but this time to Belair; Belair performing a super suplex from the same area, I don't know what actually happens here but she does folded up as if she takes most of the bump here, yes on watching it again, it is not a sport you want to watch too often as she clearly takes it on the back of the neck and commentary put this over. Cargill puts Fyre in a pinning combination, she kicks out, but it's the second later Cargill still has to take a shot from Baszler to break up the pin. Baszler has the kirifude clutch in on Cargill and she is clearly tapping out, with the commentary team putting this over, but and I am speculating here but I don't think this was meant to happen considering the referee [Jessica Carr] is out of position and couldn't see it; I have to regard this as a botched on Cargill's part. This match/match slot receives: 6/10.
Chad Gable [with Otis & Maxxine Dupri] vs. Champ Sami Zayn; Singles Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship: Cole makes reference to the WWE universe paying good money as Barrett makes reference to wanting to hear his theory and being paid to do this job basically. I just bring this up because it is making reference to appoint that is at best uncomfortable as they [the audience] paid on average so much money to be there. Paraphrasing; Cole asked Barrett for a translation on what the crowd were saying? But let's just say Barrett could only indicate it was a version of the conger. Then Cole tells lies about 14,000 people when there is well over 11,000 people in attendance. Gable takes a half and half suplex where even on commentary with the replay it looks like a tough landing for him, much later on Cole gets a name wrong but instantly corrects himself and with a surrounding interview after this. This match/match slot receives: 8/10.
Piper Niven [with Chelsea Green] vs. Champ Bayley; Singles Match for the WWE Women's Championship: apart from a stiff looking suplex from the apron to inside for Bayley as it relates to re-enter the ring, I have to say that even though I have called it a stiff, it was 80% clean, she just takes the bump on the last bit and the commentary team put this over and the same sentiment can be used for a I am going to say a DDT reversal from Bayley Cole lies again about the attendant of 14,000 1I have clearly stated it was well over 11,000 and then we have Barrett putting over on commentary that Niven has won over the home crowd, which is a strict to say this because they weren't really against her, this crowd have been hot all night and yes they have said/shouted out different things, but as I said earlier it was a stretch to say they were against her. I know the commentary team another move was hard-hitting; Piper Driver and of course I know Graves and Wade Barrett have to basically sell things on commentary. But of the angles I can see and they can probably see it was impactful yes, clean yes, I just think they oversold it. This match/match slot receives: 8/10.
Drew McIntyre vs. Champ The Judgement Day's: Damian Priest; Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship [The Judgment Day's: Dominik Mysterio, Finn Bálor & JD McDonagh are banned from ringside: Cole points out he can't hear Graves due to the sound and Graves replies good. Then a little time later Barrett points out if McIntire wins he is British but if he loses he is Scottish with Graves replying I am still trying to work that out. With Barrett replying that is how it is over here and he isn't wrong. Michael Cole says the wrong name, but then corrects himself. Priest has a very bad slip/hung up when he tries to jump off the ring ropes on the commentary table side and gets tangled up instead, I may not be a professional wrestler and never likely to be, but this has been much worse than what it is; in fact the commentary team: Barrett and Graves tried to put it over there is something that could have been much worse. McIntyre slightly breaks kayfabe and basically point out to everyone I can't win the title if he is hung up, so under this cover of reasoning, he helped out Priest; Cole highlights what McIntire has just said. This is big news Michael Cole gives us the precise attendance figure of 11,391, it is a little bit more than 14,000 isn't it Cole, later on Cole says the precise figure again. All I can say is; I agree with Barrett's outburst. This match/match slot receives: 7/10.
The average mark of this pay-per-view is: 7/10, as you can see this event gets better the more you watch of it.
