Time
Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful
effects/shooting/stabbing/drugs/animal cruelty/biting/burning/medical.
One last ride: roughly this is how things go down; Kip
Raines [Giovanni Ribisi] a carjacker in control of his own crew of carjackers
as well, finds himself in a massive ditch owing Raymond Calitri/"The
Carpenter" [Christopher Eccleston] 50 cars by the end of the week. But The
Carpenter is let's just say far then convinced that Kip and his crew are able
to pull this off his associate Atley Jackson [Will Patton] goes to seek the one
man that could possibly pull this off with his old crew Randall
"Memphis" Raines/Roger [Nicholas Cage;] which he is a retired
carjacker and has been out of the game for 6 years, but is the bigger brother
to Kip. Memphis goes and tells their mother Helen Raines [Grace Zabriskie] what
is going on and you may have to break his promise to her to get Kip back, which
she does wants him back. But on top of that he has two detectives on his back
one he has a history with Detective Roland Castlebeck [Delroy Lindo] and his
partner Detective Drycoff [Timothy Olyphant] and if that wasn't where is enough
a member of Memphis' old crew which he now needs help from happens to be his
ex-girlfriend Sara 'Sway' Wayland [Angelina Jolie,] which he also left when he
gave up his previous life, but in fairness and balance he did ask her at the
time but she wasn't ready to give up that lifestyle.
The pacing of this 118 minutes film
is like the rest of this film everything about it is; it knows what it is and
it sticks to plan which leads to a positive result.
In the opening credits we have this
vague back story on this family known as Raines, I say it is vague because it
is all done by photographs throughout so I just wanted to cover my back by
using the word "vague," but this is good art.
The action is mostly in vehicles and
other little bits and pieces, yes because they are in vehicles they are of a
high octane action variety, there is also consistent presence of comedy now and
again such as Memphis going undercover posing as a very wealthy individual
which he takes the name off this Car Dealer [Unknown performer] that he speaks
to find out what else he has in his warehouse or later on Donny Astricky [Chi
McBride] and Freb [James Duval] have just hijacked this car and when they come
to their first stop as Astricky has his window down he gets a gun
pointed at his face through the window as this other carjacker wants position
of this car, but he soon comes to realise that he has missed with the wrong
individual Astricky in a nutshell takes care of this individual by basically
saying It is easy to pull a gun on anybody you don't know the first thing about
stealing a car, you need a role model.
Character developments and
performances: their character types are safe and reliable, they are what they
are, but however there is good chemistry throughout this cast; this is a cast
performance.
This film receives: 7/10, this film is good from the very
beginning it knows what it can offer its viewers, which is straightforward high
octane, now and again consistently comical action film. This film does have
awards accredited including negative ones as well. But I will begin with the
positive ones; Won 9 that include Blockbuster Entertainment Awards 2001;
Blockbuster Entertainment Award Favorite Actress - Action Angelina Jolie.
Nominees 6 that include from the same award ceremony/event. The Stinkers Bad
