Drive Hard 2014 by AverageMansReviews

Drive Hard 2014 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this project is excellent.

Fundamental elements: there is mental imagery, slow-motion effects, background music, quick moving effects, voice-over elements, time jumps and place jumps.

Action sequences/Comedy level: I will be discussing these two elements briefly in this paragraph and slightly more in another paragraph later on, it is just I can't fit all of these header words in one line. The action sequences have weapons being used, chasing sequences and combat elements and now moving on to the comedy level it ranges from mature themes to [just to cover my own back I am going to say] to adult themes in one way or another.

Character developments/Performances: now for most of this cast on both counts be it character developments or performances that is either them following what their character developments are or without the two main characters/performers I will be discussing shortly this film would have nothing special [I am trying not to be too harsh,] but considering what these two characters/performers bring to the table and consequently has a big effect on the mark of this title; in short I'm trying to say take these two characters/performers away from this title it doesn't bear thinking about it that is how much they affect this title [but having said all this; there are two elderly characters/performers that deserve a quick mention for being funny and let's put it politely they don't really hold back on anything.]

Cusack and Jane; do so, so much for this title be it for the action sequences, comedy level, their character developments or their performances. This is why I was trying to get all four of these headers together, because between these two characters/performers their chemistry allows these four elements to work or develop or anything else in such a way that you can get all these elements rotating off one another or working with one another depending where you are in this title, so it could be action mixed in with comedy or character developments or dialogue exchanges of meaning and purpose.

This film receives: 9/10, the storyline is something safe and reliable roughly but what is built on top of the storyline surrounding Cusack and Jane's characters/chemistry is why this mark has been chosen.

Assassin's Creed 2014 by AverageMansReviews

Assassin's Creed 2014 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this project is poor.

Fundamental elements: there are words and numbers on screen, background music, cultural elements, mental imagery, slow-motion effects, quick moving effects, yes and no to subtitles being used [I think I will discuss this more in a minute,] interpreter, time jumps and place jumps.

Well I strongly don't like this film and I'm pretty sure this will not be the first time I will be saying this in this review. My interest in this title was pretty much gone after roughly 13 minutes and if you're wondering that is a little bit precise; I paused the film to find this out. Now look I have never hidden the fact that I am not a strong reader and I am dyslexic, but the size and the font of the subtitles are small and yes I may have understood some of it, but I got irritated by this so much that [I have always said I would be clean in my language in my reviews,] so I will just say I will let you imagine what my reactions were. I have to say even though I'm not a strong reader/dyslexic, I like a fighting chance with reading anything on screen, this can be easily solved with bigger text than what we have in this title, with better font may be different colours when someone else is talking [for an example we could have two different characters talking so they used two different colours of text or anything other to basically make it easier to read, so I think there are no subtitles being used when some characters are running/chasing characters which they may or may not say something.

I will try and keep this brief; it doesn't matter what time in history you are in [this will make better sense when or if you choose to watch this title,] the movement of this project is uninspiring and hard work to watch.

Action sequences/Artistic visions: there are weapons being used, combat elements, first-person shooter [you'll have to be quick to see these elements,] and a training element. Now from an artistic perspective this title looks nice, I don't know what else to say really because mostly everything else about this title even from an professional unbiased perspective or personal perspective it either irritates me or I just don't like it.

Storyline/Performances: now it is true I don't know too much about this franchise [when I say franchise I mean that in a videogame sense; as far as my knowledge goes this title is based on a videogame franchise and that is it.] So with that in mind and not forgetting I have re-dictated this paragraph twice at this point, because having looked over it again and again I ran the risk of telling you too much or you could have pieced it together which is something I don't do, so I have just decided to say this instead and one other thing; it would have been really, really useful to have this earpiece idea so when our lead character and us landed in this landscape this earpiece would translate any language into English and with the earpiece came a warning try not to get hit too hard in that other place, because your earpiece may fall out in this place and without the earpiece you will not be able to understand other languages so we would have to bring you back to sort out the problem or unless you learn their language or find some way to communicate with them. I wouldn't have minded a sequence which was based on the earpiece falling out so our lead role had to use a different way of trying to communicate to another character, it would have been a mixture between slightly comical and sensible in this exchange.

The next element of the storyline I would like to talk about is the ending stages [I am not going to be talking about anything related to the ending stages,] I am specifically talking about the ending style and nothing more, what a great idea [sarcasm is very much intended] to leave this project on a big question-mark, the kind of question-mark that implies we will be getting a sequel and all I am going to say on that is "No thank you."

Now moving on to the performances; I think this would be the first time I have ever done this in a review where I have chosen to give everyone a free-pass, I am not doing this out of laziness but in fairness and balance with everything I have spoke about in this review up to this point the performances are not the biggest issue; let me clarify I am sticking up for the performers by saying their talents are wasted in this project and because of the other issues in this project I couldn't really settle down with these performances or anything related to these performances, so consequently it would be difficult for me to criticize something that even though I watched this film yesterday the performances are somewhat crushed by everything else hence why I'm going to say again these performers get a free-pass and their talents are wasted.

This film receives: 1/10, let's try to leave this review on a positive the apparatus which our lead role uses was a good and interesting thing, as I have already said the artistic visions look nice and to point out one thing Fassbender and Irons sharing the same screen together for a little while of what I remember, so I could be wrong about this; but still it was cool I just wish it was in a much, much, much, much better film and if I haven't said something to this effect enough I strongly don't like this film and there is one other thing which I have just remembered, usually I don't mention when or if I use any facilities such as subtitles, because as long as I get through the project in question that is all that matters, but in this case I even tried the subtitles facilities to see if I could find better subtitles than what this film has, but it didn't work.

Enemy of the State 1998 by AverageMansReviews

Enemy of the State by 1998 AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this project is good.

Fundamental elements: there are words and numbers on screen, voice-over elements, background music, cultural elements, quick moving effects, yes and no to subtitles being used when another language is being used, slow-motion effects, time jumps and place jumps.

This film feels like a long film [I should just point out it is roughly speaking 132 minutes long,] so it is a long film but it doesn't have to also feel like a long film as well and in the interest of fairness and balance at some point in this review I will be pointing out when it doesn't feel so long.

Action sequences: there are weapons being used, chasing sequences and other bits and pieces.

Character developments/Performances: all of these character developments and performances are something safe and reliable, once you have spent some time with these characters you should be able to work out their character model, this is why I find it a little bit difficult to criticize the performances, because logically speaking if these are the character developments; the performers in question are just a reflection of them in the first place.

But where I said earlier I would tell you when this film doesn't feel so long and without saying too much it is when we have Smith and Hackman working off one another on a consistent basis, there is good chemistry, I say good chemistry because I kind of got the feeling if his partnership were given more time on screen it could have been something really special [in a nutshell it is one of those golden opportunities where you have to ask or say to yourselves or ourselves "What if these two performers had this entire film to work off?"

This film receives: 6/10, now after taking everything into consideration and when I finished watching this title I said this mark so I am going to stick with it and on a quick side note the cat was a good touch in this project.

Contagion 2011 by AverageMansReviews

Contagion 2011 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this project is poor.

Fundamental elements: there are words and numbers on screen, voice-over elements, background music, cultural elements, quick moving effects, slow-motion effects, yes and no to subtitles being used when another language is being used, time jumps and place jumps.

Now I don't have too much to say about this title; simply because this film feels like it never gets out of first gear, meaning the movement of this title is slow, really slow and I could be wrong about this; but is it me or is the background music really noticeable.

Storyline: in short without saying too much I get the ending, but I would have been more interested in what happened next.

Performances/Character developments: I don't think it is right that I should say these performances are anywhere near poor because they are not, but I can say because of the character developments including the fundamental elements [which I have already discussed] these performers were doing their job and there are some well-established names in this cast, are you ready for just two name drops Kate Winslet and Bryan Cranston.

This film receives: 3/10, in theory and I am just guessing here, but just maybe if this project had a bit of get up and go to it I would have given this film a higher mark [I am just stating this so it comes across that I am trying to be at least fair in this review.] But as this film is right here and right now, the more this film went on the more my interest was getting less and less [and on a quick side note there are weapons being used and things of this nature.]

San Andreas 2015 by AverageMansReviews

San Andreas 2015 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this project is mixed

Fundamental elements: there are words and a number on screen, slow-motion effects, background music, mental imagery, place jumps and time jumps.

Action sequences/Comedy level: briefly on both counts there is a tandem parachute sequence or in another sequence there are many different motorized boats fighting against this tidal wave, there are little bits and pieces of comedy such as when one character says or something to the effect of "I can't wait to be in my 20's" or "Mum's going to love her." I should just point out as it relates to the comedy level; they are moments in this project [so when these occasions happen you will understand these comedy elements better.]

Character developments/Performances: these character developments are somewhat the standard for this kind of film, for two quick examples this family unit are having problems that has affected these three characters, before this situation arises. Now okay the British characters have their moments, the older one is somewhat nervous around the opposite sex, whilst the younger says or asks things which the older one wouldn't or points out some things or something like this. Moving on now to the performances I don't know what to say really other than this; what did they expect with character developments like these; all I can say is without giving too much away there is a well used formula to these character developments, I have been somewhat positive about the British characters, but honestly I cannot overstate this; based on these character developments, the performances or the performers do their job really.

This film receives: 4/10, this film has enough about it to get given this mark that is all I can say about it.

Skyscraper by 2018 AverageMansReviews

Skyscraper 2018 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this project is poor

Fundamental elements: there are voice-over elements, numbers and words on screen, cultural elements, background music, slow-motion effects, quick moving effects, yes and no to subtitles being used when another language is being used, place jumps and time jumps.

Action sequences/Artistic visions: well first things first I will discuss the elements I like [this one sequence can be seen as an action sequence and an artistic vision.] Now fast-forward until the later stages of this project where we have these bad guys with guns looking for these characters in this sequence, but in this sequence as well are these highly sophisticated computer things [to simplify this sequence,] these computers in this case are like mirrors where these characters are seeing reflections of themselves including the other characters [off the top of my head this sequence reminds me of the final battle sequence in the legendary and classic film title Enter the Dragon 1973 where in this sequence without giving too much away we have the bad guy vs. our lead character in a one on one sequence and in this location there are many mirrors. [If I have missed out anything as it relates to the Skyscraper sequence I would like to just quickly say this is just a rough description.]

Storyline/Comedy level: it is straightforward, predictable and nothing special. Now let's move onto the comedy level, there are little elements of comedy but they are painful to watch, in this one little scene, we have our lead character trying to break into somewhere and before he tries; he just tries to open the door normally at first.

Character developments/Performances: these character developments are very, very paint by numbers that kind of thing. So let's be fair and balanced on one hand I don't know what these performers were meant to do with these character developments/character types in the first place, whilst on the other hand with keeping in being fair and balanced I am going to say these performances range from poor to mixed, I mean I can see the problems; is it the character developments/character types or is it the performances and if you have seen this project or you haven't seen this project yet on both sides of the line of character developments or performances the best conclusion I could give you is this; generally speaking it would be unfair to blame one or the other, so an element of blame has to be put on both that is the only reasonable and logical way of looking at it.

This film receives: 2/10, now taking everything into consideration like yes there are other moments or scenes or sequences where this project looks visually a treat for the eyes, but be it an unbiased perspective or a personal perspective I don't think too much of this title, but I will try to leave this review on a positive note if you are a fan of Dwayne Johnson give this title a go, but I just wouldn't expect too much.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter 2016/2017 by AverageMansReviews

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter 2016/2017 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time: this sequel is mixed

Fundamental elements: there are voice over-elements, background music, mental imagery, quick moving imagery, slow-motion effects, words on screen, place jumps and time jumps.

Now on one hand I do understand beginning this sequel with a history element [okay it is a bit late in the day for this kind of thing, but I still get it and let's be fair it was interesting,] but on the other hand with a rhetorical question why then go on to recapping elements of this franchise again.

Action sequences/Comedy level: the action sequences have a good variety in them; here are just two examples, where our lead role is being chased by this bat thing [you will not be able to miss it; it is on the gigantic side of things and the second is where our lead role is hanging upside down in a trap, but she is still very much able to take care of business, but moving on to the comedy level I just have to mention our lead character using someone else's hand to get this vehicle moving and the line of "You're all going to die down here" gets used at some point.

Storyline/Character developments/Performances: the first thing I want to say is; I will be discussing these three elements clearly but at the same time, the second thing I want to say is; the first two elements are either confusing or makes reference or references to previous events that we haven't seen [we get told them which without giving too much away makes some elements of the previous title useless or unless I have missed something we don't see one character in this title, which developed another character's character developments in the previous title] or I am not making any excuses but there is a possibility I could have missed something so if this is the case I apologize.

The storyline for this project feels really slow by its contents and then, in a rush to squeeze everything in; in the final section as the viewers/our main character finds out more which is valuable information/character developments which once again without being too harsh is useless because why bring all this up in the final 30 minutes when, they could have easily have our lead role find out little bits and pieces of this information beginning at the end of the previous project and throughout this title which in turn would have been a slow and steady character development and worthwhile watching or get your viewers invested in this sequel to watch it all unfold.

Moving on to the performances; I think in the interest of fairness and balance they do the job based on their character developments that is them, Jovovich makes a lot happen, she comes across as someone that has been in this lifestyle for a very long time, slightly comical because she knows she can handle any situation, the chemistry between Alice and Red Queen is something for you to look out for and on a quick side note Young Alicia/Red Queen performed by Ever Anderson does put in a good showing as well.

This film receives: 5/10, well if the truth was known I said this mark after I finished watching it, but I have been thinking between this mark and one other, I decided to stick with this mark, because after taking everything into consideration it just feels either just about there or about right or just about fair, just never talk to me about the ending or anywhere around this section of this title, that is all I am going to say.
