In France
1815:
briefly; we meet Jean Valjean/other names [Hugh Jackman:] he is better known as
Prison 24601 on his release after serving 19 years, the lead warden at the time
Javert [Russell Crow:] Without question have these strong feeling he will see
him again whenever he decides to screw up, he will be there to catch him
Generally
speaking: the storyline/ script Is ok, but one of the biggest problems that
this film has is…Yes absolutely it does follow the standard musical outlay of
storyline going back and forth with musical numbers which is in itself likewise
absolutely fine, but The framework and pasting of this roughly speaking 157
minutes film is just too long on every single level; at every single minute you
can't forget that this movie is a long drawn out affair and boy howdy with or
without the time jumps everything all pretty much everything became such an
arduous task, which also will affect the potentially enjoyment of musical
numbers as well; art; It's like at the beginning broadly speaking you will say
that was good, obviously depending on who is singing in them and who with, but
eventually most parts you'll be like can we just get through this please, later
on in this content I will make reference to who is actually good at sing and who is not and who is okay.
But visually minus the green screen effects in the background, they did a
fantastic job of bringing this world to life; be it set designs or costumes or
anything else, they went with top quality approach.
Action
and art; the best action sequence is
very near to beginning of the movie where he is instructed to pick up
this part of a ship and carry it, this civil conflict sequences of good as well
Character
developments, performances and comedy; the character developments are good
versions of what they are meant to be, but for me the whole, the performances
are broadly hit and miss for them at minimum okay, Hugh Jackman as Jean
Valjean; this perfect and leads this cast with masterful performance and the
same can be said for Anne Hathaway as Fantine [in a supporting role:] she is
someone that needs Valjean to on the task for her, as will be unable. Helena
Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen as the Thénardiers: these two characters
will do anything to make money, including selling a child; it was a wonderful
surprise to have these two working off one another, as they have excellent
chemistry for singing and comedic timing [they previously worked on Sweeney
Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street 2007.] Russell Crowe as Javert: acting
performance in this movie is good, but how can I put this nicely… singing is
not his forteas I have seen many musicals in one way or another live or in a
recording, but I have never seen a person sing in their mouth, don't give me
wrong I have seen bad singing, but no one sing in the mouth before or until
this film. what I mean is in theory when someone sings it; It usually gets
pushed out of the mouth, but in this case, he seems to have forgotten that part
and consequently it sounds like he is sucking in the words and just talking
things them; it is a very odd experience and off putting one as well.
This film
receives: 4/10, this film is mixed; as I have made it abundantly clear at
this point, I found this film to be insufferably boring, yes it does have some
positives to it, but that is about it.
