Review Time

Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/shooting/stabbing/cutting/impaling/burning/transformation/torture/vehicle crash/vehicle hit/kamikaze/medical reference to communism, racism and cancer.

So this is much worse than what I was expecting: briefly; Ben Richards/other names/other characters [Glen Powell:] he is desperately looking for work to look after his sick child and wife which is already working hard, so Ben auditions for these potentially various life-threatening possibility, but none the more life-threatening than the gameshow known as The Running Man, were Ben is resistant to participating on, but after a lengthy conversation with Dan Killian [Josh Brolin:] he is the creator and producer also referred to super producer of  The Running Man, is very keen for Ben to participate where he points out the financial rewards, so Ben agrees; I should point out that these two individuals will never be the best of friends, but eventually Ben starts running for the next 30 days.

Generally speaking: let's just get it over with shall we?... The storyline/script is insufferable; it virtual signals off the top of my head mostly everything wrong as it relates to a society/social divide, the only irony I agree with is the fact that reality TV has been here for a while in our world, in this film they just show what could possibly come down the pipeline in decades to come, the framework and pacing of this 133 minutes film is what I can only describe as meh I mean for about two minutes as this modern version of Ben walks to The Network building the background music is good, but after that it is pretty much absolutely nothing special, I mean this is far from a problem with this film.

Art, action and comedy; now upheld from downtrodden elements of the society and how our running people begin their game, I can pretty much leave everything else really okay minus Arnold Schwarzenegger/the original Ben Richards on the money [so you may want to pay attention for this moment,] the only action sequence I liked was when Ben had to quickly escape and I'm going to guess possibly end up in the sewer, where he comes up out of the water laughing and then send the message that I am still here, if you have seen the trailers you will have probably seen a little bit of the sequence I am referring to; mostly the best bits were in the trailer/trailers to be honest with you this remake/reboot does very little for me, it just comes over as cheaply made.

Character developments and performances; what you want me to say? None of our main characters are likeable, okay Ben is trying to do the best for his family, I get that; but he is also a bit of a penis and Dan, I can take or leave him I feel nothing for him and on top of this we have more virtual signalling, especially when Ben kidnaps somebody. I know we had a similar character in the 1987 version which was cool, she came out with similar lines: but I can't tell you the massive quality gap between the 1987 version and this 2025 version it is astounding; in short the 1987 version talks like an adult and so on and so forth, but the 2025 version talks like a child that believes everything she sees on TV and just for the record whilst I'm on the subject, if you are one of those people that believes everything you see or hear or both on any media outlets well you are stupid aren't you. But the hell this character just goes on and on in this dialogue exchange it just highlights the this project is nothing but a virtual signalling dumb stuff fire and yes if you have guessed, in particular Powell should have never been given this role; he doesn't have the stature or stage presence for it and if you think I am talking about Schwarzenegger's physique... that would be a no, but if you are thinking anywhere near his stage presence... that would be yes. I am very open to interpretation, but regardless physicality you still need somebody to have stage presence to pull this role off and Brolin does an okay job; I mean how can I put this nicely? He does okay job as this character, but he doesn't exactly pushed the boat out for this performance and I can say the same for the chemistry between these two; like it is there, but it does come across as very formulaic and going through the motions, but the funny thing is; everyone that I haven't already discussed in this cast does either good or very good as their characters/performances and a special mention needs to go out to Colman Domingo as Bobby "Bobby T" Thompson, the Host of The Running Man show: as he is the only key character that has really done any homework on what is required from him in this role, as this character is enthusiastic/charismatic misleading and consequently his audience in the studio or at home the vast majority of them will believe anything he tells them: I hope for his sake Domingo gets a few at minimum positive nominees awards

This film receives: 1/10, this film is poor; straight off the bat I would usually give another mark for the positives, but the negatives greatly outweigh whatever positives there are, hence why I went with this mark. Now it is never good for someone to lose their job, but having said that whoever green lit this reboot needs to go and find employment somewhere else, because this film is just so bad it isn't even funny, I mean at this going rate this project would be delighted to get anywhere near 50% of its budget back which hypothetically speaking would be $55 million as it is currently standing just over $30 million. Like I have continuously pointed out when it is time to do so, this modern re-telling just has so many problems, like again this virtual signalling script the points out these things quite clearly, so well done you have pointed out these things, what precisely are you going to do about them?... As I thought absolutely nothing; As the person I watch some of this content with am I said paraphrasing and clearly censoring; this film is garbage a hot steaming pile of garbage, I won't be recommending it to anyone at all, but hopefully it will pick up plenty of awards to its name fingers crossed... Oh I missed out a word, putting to one side what I said earlier; so let's try again shall we; but I do hope it will pick up plenty of negative awards to its name fingers crossed.
