Review Time

Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/shooting/cutting/references to the Soviet Union including Swastika

The Germans vs. The Allies: briefly; in World War II we have these POWs and it is put in place where it will be The Germans vs. The Allies, where they have such players as Corporal Luis Fernandez [Brazil's Pelé:] this individual is very quick on his feet and outside of this film: yes he is the original King of the world of football/soccer and then we have Captain Robert Hatch [USA's Sylvester Stallone:] he wants to escape on his own, but eventually joins The Allies as their goalkeeper.

Generally speaking: the framework and pacing of this 117 minutes film is good; it just settled down to its job and gets on with things

Action and art; briefly I should talk about the elephant in the room; the elephant in the room being quite clearly; if you don't like football/soccer may be this film isn't for you, don't get me wrong you can still watch it obviously. But if you find this sport boring, maybe give this film a miss: but moving on from that we have training and the actual football match itself: where in both we get to see a little bit of good Pelé was and on top of that Captain Hatch escapes from this location, once the match itself: it takes place in Colombes, Francethe stadium known as back then Colombes Stadium/nowadays or when this content was first created: the Stade Yves-du-Manoir: Officially: Stade olympique Yves-du-Manoir: Also known as: the Stade olympique de Colombes: Simply: Colombes: nowadays it can facilitate football, rugby, track and field and it was used in the 2024 Summer Olympics as well and hold up to 15,000 people.

But I digress: back to this film minus the symbol I made reference to earlier: it was a glorious day for football as this location was packed and not forgetting they were using the heavy brown football as well: a quick description of this football other then it being brown, it was incredibly heavy so let's just say it is a far cry from the scientific engineered football of today.

Character developments and performances; on both counts they good versions of what they need to be, which creates good chemistry/camaraderie, especially when one player is willing to get their arm broken to take one for the team

This film receives: 7/10, this film is good; as I have already illegal to but now including it would help if you liked football/soccer and were interested film projects set in this timeframe. This film also has some awards accredited to its name; 1 Winner Huabiao Film Awards 1984 Huabiao Film Award Outstanding Translated Foreign Film and 1 Nominee Moscow International Film Festival 1981 Golden Prize John Huston
