Warning going forward in this
content: at one point or another I will be
just saying it; as I see it including but not limited to censored adult
language references and yes I am very much aware I have a penis, but let's keep
in mind I am also an adult, so like it or not I am entitled to my opinion.
Warning:
there is terrorism/sexual assault/man on women violence/police
brutality/torture/burning/slavery/animal cruelty/kamikaze/medical/references to
domestic violence
1912 in London: briefly; we meet Maud Watts [Carey Mulligan:] she works
in this massive laundry [on a quick side note: yes the name of this business
gets said but I have forgotten the name, apologies for any inconvenience,] but
I digress; she is a loving mother and a good wife, but her head gets turned by
this movement known as the Suffragettes.
Generally speaking: the script is what I can best describe as cowardly from
the perspective of it uses Watts life as a vessel for this film and this
movement plays second fiddle. I should point out usually I wouldn't be this
harsh by using the word cowardly, but I am somewhat vindicated based on the
title of this film being "Suffragettes" and you will get to see the
key pioneer for this movement Emmeline Pankhurst [Meryl Streep:] she is the
founder/leader of the Suffragettes and again at best only in this film for
sequence of events and that is it. Now I should point out if they had changed
the title of this film to "Watts: A Life of a Suffragette." Firstly
this would have been much more accurate and obviously secondly I wouldn't now
be saying what I have said so far. But keeping the back of your mind on
everything I have just said, the framework and pacing of this 106 minutes film
is; well constructive to stick to the plan of what it has in store for its
audiences, but I have to confess after roughly the first 40 minutes, I did say
to the person I watch some of this content with; just another hour to go.
Art
and action; okay let's be kind for a while about this film; the scenery, set
designs and the wardrobe and all of that is good and the post box bombs action
sequence is good as well [I hasten to add am not condoning this behaviour.]
Character
developments and performances; on both counts they were good, but for me and I
know I have discussed this already, but to be reasonable it is the consequence
of it, which I could not be held responsible for; because of the title being
what it is and was; for a little while I was expecting there to be more on
everything and what we got was this, so as you can guess from my previous
statement for an hour, I was; I have been around long enough to get and seen
the signs of this is it; if it? So yes they are good, but I think a reasonable
outlook is to say they are a bit meh as well
This film receives: 5/10, this film is mixed; so on one hand I am happy
just to have got through it, but I think it is also very fair to say it wasn't
what I was expecting and I never go in expecting anything, but in this case
when it says "Suffragettes" I think it is a reasonable expectation to
get more of it being a main point.
This
is where I am more than likely going to really tick some of you off; I find it
incredibly sad and irritating that these women went through all of this manure,
being put in prison, going through hunger strikes and in some cases dying to
make it better for women to fight for equality and I mean genuine equality,
just for women many years later; to essentially in some cases prostitute
themselves on these sexual platforms yes making lots of money again in some
cases and yes I am of the mindset; of if you are providing some form of sexual
release for a financial transaction by definition you are in prostitute end of
story thanks for coming or should that be thanks for making your clients come?
And on top of that have the audacity to then call yourselves entrepreneurs;
that is a load of horse manure. I have the same opinion of women that make up
false allegations of any kind of inappropriate behaviour, because they are just
harming the ones that unfortunately have been. My final point here is;
professionally or/and personally anyone that sells themselves, okay I may show
some leniency towards going through a global pandemic and that period of time,
but it is women and further generations down the line that are spitting on what
the Suffragettes stood for.
