After a death in the family: briefly; in the 19th Century we meet the Dashwood's;
but because of their circumstances they now have to adjust to their new
standard of living; our story mainly focuses around two sisters from this
family; Elinor and Marianne Dashwood
[Emma Thompson & Kate Winslet:] the oldest of the three daughters is
reserved and down to earth, whilst her sister; the middle child is more heart
on her sleeve and love whilst her older sister leans more to duty first and so
on and so forth.
Generally speaking: the framework and pacing of this 136 minutes long film
is just a disaster, I mean hypothetically speaking for maybe the last 36
minutes there is some form of impetus of a usually solidly good pacing, but in
the context of this film, it is a massive difference between having none to
having some go to proceedings. So I can't remember if at all the last time I
have actually witnessed a film having to function/run off/on a character
developments and the casting/performances; I have to confess it is a very odd
sensation, where these scenes/sequences feel really empty, which has nothing to
do with the visual/cosmetic perspective. But to have a project to have your
cast for a lot of your title is just weird; I know there isn't strictly a
professional terminology but I'm sticking with it is just weird.
So
based on everything I have just said so far; it is lucky we have excellent
character versions of who they are meant to be with even back in 1995 some
established names/performers other than the other two obviously; such as Hugh
Grant as Edward Ferrars: he is from a wealthy family, but would be quite happy
with essentially the simple life, Alan Rickman as Colonel Brandon: as you can
tell by his rank, he is serves in the British Army and then we have Hugh Laurie
as Mr. Palmer: he is a gentleman of local society; and for me he does
consistently the best comedy that this film has to offer; his character type is
one of those married that would possibly have been married for too long to his
wife that likes to talk Charlotte Palmer performed by Imelda Staunton, as he
comes out with from time to time these perfectly timed and executed comments;
similar to someone reading the newspaper in fact I believe there is a usage of
a newspaper or newspapers and then says the comment, there is some other
comical comedy exchanges; including a play jousting/sword fight that has a
comedic conclusion; so as you can see/read this film does have now and again something’s
at its disposal to generate to fill up some on this empty space in these scenes
and more importantly to make it at the very least watchable.
Art;
the scenery, landscapes, wardrobe, accessories and other aspects are all quaint
as they bring this period of history to life, but it should also be mentioned
that all of these aspects are trying to help you do nicely? Fend off the
boredom alongside the other positives of this project.
This film receives: 6/10, this film is good; as I have clearly been
illustrating that the performances of this cast are very much the driving force
behind this title, so I just chose a mark which is fair and on the whole a
reflection of this film in its entirety and the person and I that watched this
film together said at one point or another individually speaking of course;
said that we were happy to have seen this film, but it is one of those films
that I couldn't see me watching again, so it very much has that one time appeal
to it, that is sure. This film does have many awards 33 Winners that includes
but not limited to Academy Awards, USA 1996 Oscar Best Writing, Screenplay
Based on Material Previously Produced or Published Emma Thompson and BAFTA

this is just a rough selection of awards, so yes even though I have brought up
the award ceremony/events yes there are many other accredited awards at the
events/ceremonys I just have been selective on one's I have chosen in any
capacity.]
