At the CIA:
briefly; after Agent Osborne Cox [John Malkovich:] he works for the CIA as a
analyst, but he declines what option he has in front of him, so he leaves the
agency and thinks about writing a book, in fact it begins putting it together
and this is what happens
Generally speaking: the framework and pacing of this 96 minutes film is
incredibly slow and tedious; it does get much quicker in I'm going kind and say
just the roundabout; just before the final quarter. This is one of those
occasions where you would say to yourself internally; where did this
enthusiastic get up and go come from, because for roughly 71 minutes this has
been non-existent; which as you will read soon to why this film possibly and
the success they did in my opinion.
Character
developments, performances, comedy and action; let's be completely honest here
and say the cast contributed a vast majority to the success of this film; they
are very defined character developments as in; they know who they are and what
drives them, by a stroke of genius we have some well-established names in this
cast such as George Clooney as Harry Pfarrer: he used to be an US Marshal, but
he works for the Treasury Department nowadays, he likes to go out walking, but
unfortunately he likes to cheat on his wife and then we have Brad Pitt as Chad
Feldheimer: he works for Hardbodies; he comes across as not the brightest bulb
in the packet, he is also slightly obsessed with working out. For the comedy
that I can mention, because there is at least one comedy scene I can't mention,
when or if you come to see this film you will understand why, when you see it.
But I digress; Cox/Malkovich losing his temper; either walking out of his job
or shouting down the telephone after being blackmailed or/and without giving
too much away punching someone in the face.
This film receives: 5/10, this film is mixed; as I have already referenced,
I just found this film to be tedious, because of the script, framework and
pacing yes, but also the casting of this cast; they very much are the driving
force behind this film on every single level and without them; this film would
have very easily collapse in on itself and fell to its knees. This film has
some awards accredited to its name such as 8 Winners that includes but not
limited to National Board of Review, USA 2008 NBR Award Top Ten Films St. Louis
Film Critics Association, US 2008 SLFCA
Award Best Comedy or Musical Film. 32 Nominees from the same award
ceremony/event Best Supporting Actor
John Malkovich and Best Supporting Actress Frances McDormand as Linda Litzke: a
middle-aged individual that is struggling with her life especially working for
Hardbodies and try to get out there dating; but as you will see she be stuck in
a converted situation.
