One brain, two people: briefly; Dr. Henry Jekyll/Mr. Edward Hyde [Paul
Massie:] Dr. Jekyll is a scientist, but is working on removing elements of our
personality traits would hopefully create higher functioning beings, but by
doing so he creates Mr. Hyde and this is their story.
Generally speaking: the storyline/script, the framework and pacing of this
88 minute film is extremely hard work, because on all counts it feels like it
is drifting along with not a lot happening coinciding with things clearly
happening and then on top of that we have the framework and pacing which
mirrors that approach; this was hardly fun to watch or even I would take good
to watch.
Art
and action; this set designs, costumes and the cultural dancing with and I do
stress with the snake was good; I should clarify there is a moment where the
snake is a moment where the snake is on the floor and she is dancing around the
snake like women used to dance around their handbags in decades past which I
have to say this was weird; yes there was some other dancing and let's just say
the person I watch some of this contend with after some time just pressed the
fast-forward button and other previous bits and pieces as well; which I can't
blame them because after some time, it was just insufferably boring, we don't
get much in the way of action; action but when we do it serves its purpose and
it does the jobs at that those times in the movie; so they are solid.
Character
developments and performances; okay the what I perceive to be the status quo
for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; as I have seen quite a few incarnations throughout
my life; this was an interesting take on these two characters and their
dynamics; but like a referenced in the previous section at least we get one
face-to-face conversation via a mirror, but other than that these character
developments were solid and has the same can be said for these performances; as
I said I it is felt like there wasn't really much happening, even though it
came in fits and starts.
This film receives: 2/10, this film is poor; this was actually really
difficult to watch; it never really grabbed me or I couldn't settle down with
it and you should know by now I gave old films a little bit more credit with
what they had to use at their disposal at that time making the film, but when
there is a much to talk about, I can't really be held responsible for that and
to be reasonable to myself/to you I am never made stuff up on things that were
just not there.
