We follow most of her life: briefly; this is the story of Rebecca "Becky"
Sharp Crawley [Young as Becky Sharp: Angelica Mandy/Older: Reese Witherspoon:]
she is an orphan, but is very good at social climbing and this is her story up
to a certain point anyway.
Generally speaking: I can't stand the outlay of these components
individually or working together; the storyline/script and/or the framework and
pacing of this 141 minutes film which then the vast majority of this film; One
minute we are in 1802 and within a short time maybe over a decade has passed,
by the way I am speculating on this because one minute she is about 7 or 8
years old and then possibly 18 years old: it is sometimes we get informed on
screen and sometimes we don't, so even though this film is pretty much
consistently pedestrian in its progression throughout its timeframe, which you
will like myself quickly becoming tiresome of it, but also whatever connection
or identifying with these characters that you have build up, if at all will be
a complete waste of time, as they will move things along and time changes and
so on and so forth, but you will have to settle down with these characters
again and again, which if you have been viewing my content long enough, you may
have gotten the idea that after awhile, my interest will diminish and then I
will switch off, where I think I began checking how long have we got left to
watch this film? About the 28 minutes mark, the person that I watch some of the
content with, we both started checking on how long we had left to go; what can
I say? This film just wasn't fun to watch and it was incredibly hard work, so
in a nutshell you will feel every minute of this film as it agonisingly rolled
past.
Art;
this happens to be the biggest asset to this project by absolute miles; be it
the costumes, set designs including but not limited to the Indian choreographed
performance dance: it's centrepiece performer is Sharp/other name; Witherspoon
Character
developments, performances, art and comedy; because what I was saying about the
framework and pacing being the way it is; it is impossible to really connect
with any of these characters/performers, so not only was I really bored, but
also I was very much done with reconnecting with these characters/performers
with or without indications of time jumps, so as it relates to the character
developments and performances; the best I can say is meh they are mostly what
they are meant to be, but the singing from Sharp/other name; Witherspoon is
good and yes that would be now twice I have highlighted Sharp/other name;
Witherspoon, so without her this version of this film would have really fallen
flat on its face and without her and Eileen Atkins as Miss Matilda Crawley: she
is very much a senior lady and a senior member of the Crawley family; and what
I meant by a senior lady she has reached that age physically and mentally where
she says what she likes when she likes, so when she is on-screen these are good
character developments, good performance and there is synergy between Witherspoon
and Atkins.
This film receives: 4/10, this film is mixed; yes from time to time in one way or another there is good art, but I can't tell you how bored of this project I was and just happy to get through it, there is an extra little something and yes this film does have some awards accredited to its name; such as 2 Winners that includes but not limited to Satellite Awards 2005 Golden Satellite Award Best Costume Design Beatrix Aruna Pasztor and 5 Nominees which also include but not limited to from the same award ceremony/event Best Art Direction/Production Design Maria Djurkovic Tatiana Macdonald
