Review Time

Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/shooting/domestic violence/capital punishment/medical

She did it: briefly; in the 1920s, Chicago, USA; Roxie Hart [Renée Zellweger:] after the police had more than enough evidence Hart is arrested for shooting her lover dead, I should point out this is not me giving too much away, this gets established within the first section of the film, so I am not exactly giving too much of the film way. Whilst in prison awaiting trial she meets Velma Kelly [Catherine Zeta-Jones:] she is in prison for killing her husband and her sister, they don't exactly get on. Heart needs the best of the best as it relates to an attorney, which through matron: Matron "Mama" Morton [Queen Latifah:] she is the runner of this prison known as the Cook County Jail women's annex, she is just about as crooked as the prisons in this prison. But after getting paid by Hart to make this happen; Billy Flynn [Richard Gere:] he is the very best at what he does; he is very good at creating a media circus and spinning the narratives.

Generally speaking: this project runs like a theatre production, so we have a part of the movie in dialogue and then it could switch over to a musical number and then vice versa, including sometimes Taye Diggs as the bandleader: being the master of ceremonies introducing the songs, so he acts like the bridge between broadly speaking dialogue and singing: which on reflection he does classy it up. Away from this the framework and pacing of this 113 minutes film broadly speaking it is good.

Art, action, character developments, comedy and performances; the art is either very clear to see or/and hear; as the scenery, wardrobe and anything else represents this time in history in a meticulous standards and representation: for an example of the musical numbers I have chosen "Cell Block Tango" basically; the musical number including Kelly; is singing/talking about how these criminals came to be here with a comical twist: meaning it isn't one of the ladies fault if their man couldn't hold their liquor, but the liquor in question just happens to be arsenic. The performances; there is naturally fluent chemistry throughout this cast; everyone knew what was expected from each character and each character/performer just delivered it.

This film receives: 7/10, this film is good; now this mark may need some explaining, as you can see/read I can admire it for what it is, but for some strange reason I just found it to be good and away from this; but it is still a valid point I went to go and see a real-life theatre production with the person I watch some of this content with including this film and we still came out with that was good, there are some extra bits and pieces in the first closing credits and yes this film has some awards to its name such as; 59 Winners include but not limited to Academy Awards, USA 2003 Oscars Best Picture Martin Richards, Best Actress in a Supporting Role Catherine Zeta-Jones and Best Art Direction-Set Decoration John Myhre (art director) Gordon Sim (set decorator) [in total it wins 6 Oscars.] 129 Nominees which includes but not limited to; back to the same event/ceremony Best Actress in a Leading Role Renée Zellweger, Best Actor in a Supporting Role John C. Reilly as Amos Hart: he is the husband to Roxie, that no one respects him and he is fully aware of that fact: with another musical number entitled "Mister Cellophane" and Best Actress in a Supporting Role Queen Latifah [in total it had 7 nominees.]
