In Paris: briefly; we have James Reese [Jonathan Rhys Meyers:] he
is the assistant to the ambassador of the United States of America, but he also
does little things for the CIA, in fact he is desperate to get given an
opportunity to prove himself more useful to them, but don't worry you will not
have to wait that long as he gets paired up with Charlie Wax [John Travolta:] he is a very
experienced operative which is very much a loose cannon, but eventually between
them they will have to stop the terrorist attack before it is too late.
Generally speaking: the script for most parts is tedious garbage, but then
you eventually head towards the final quarter of this film roughly speaking and
then it decides to have some real substance, the framework and pacing of this
92 minutes film can also reflect this as well; as for most parts it isn't fun
to watch, so if you are like me a content creator, you will feel that you will
have to do is get through it.
Actions,
comedy and art; Wax does have a habit of bringing the carnage wherever he goes;
be it using a gun to shoot at the ceiling to reveal drugs whilst Meyers catches
some of it in this vase for evidence or our lead partnership are quickly
leaving this location in short Wax has to show his working partner that their
previous vehicle is booby-trapped, so he uses this new vehicle in reverse to do
this shunting effect; so by hitting this other vehicle backwards on to another,
on to another on to their previous vehicle; it explodes and then they quickly
make their getaway: these two examples are comical and these are just two
examples of the common the flavour that this title has to offer, much later on
Wax is safely hanging out of this vehicle whilst it is on the move finding fire
off this rocket launcher and for art man I really don't like these slow motion
effects; I do like them in the 2000's and I especially don't like them in the
2010's.
Character
developments and performances; well how can I say this... If this is what they
were going for they hit the goldmine, especially this dysfunctional yet
functional team chemistry between Reese/Meyers and Wax/Travolta; as one is very
new into this way of doing things, while the other is basically; I will find
out what I need to find out, raise hell and then leave. But roughly around the
later stages of this project we get some really positive character developments
as it relates to this individual and them being radicalised [ that's as much as
I can say about that without giving too much away; broadly speaking in the real
world I don't say this is a good thing, but in this film I wish they would have
spent more time on this turn of events as it gives this title; some real
gravitas and progress as it relates to this entire project in one way or
another as a whole; this happens to be the biggest asset to this project by
some distance. Yes this lead partnership is formulaic as it needs to be and
their performances reflect that, so they are solidly good they fulfil that
purpose.
This film receives: 2/10, this film is poor; I mean as I have already illustrated in one way or another there is lots going on, but for the vast majority of this film it can be really immature and monotonous. But likewise as I have also illustrated it really does have some heavy hitting substance in the final quarter or less or somewhere around here, this is one of those occasions where I can say I just don't get this film; for most of it it is goofy garbage and then it deals with something so heavy and beautifully managed as well.
