I will bring her back: briefly; Levon Cade [Jason Statham:] he is a former
ex-Royal Marines Commando, turned construction foreman; he is also going
through a difficult time personally as well. But he wants to help this family
that he works for as when he rotated back to the real world, they were really
patient with him, as their daughter has gone missing, but unfortunately when he
goes looking for her he kicks over a hornets nest of problems. But he does have
one close friend and that is Gunny Lefferty [David Harbour:] they both serve
together in fact Cade saved Lefferty's life but they couldn't save his vision
as he is now blind.
Generally speaking: the script, framework and pacing of this 116 minutes
film is good; it does get noticeably quicker as we go through this film
Comedy,
action and art; for one example; we have on the first meeting of Lefferty, he
tries to shoot a arrow at Cade's head [it is possibly now and again their
strange greeting Cade has to move out of the way before it hits him from
wherever it comes from] and there is some other comedy elements in the film.
The action is old the old school dark variety such as using the torture method
known as water boarding and later on letting someone else drown: but this
drowning sequence is highly imaginative and highly creative as without giving
so much away but I must to give you a little bit of substance; Cade has set up
this chair/chain system, so it could hang over this indoor swimming pool; where
this individual that has this Intel would be strapped into the chair and
connected to the system for a little chat.
Character
developments and performances; for our lead character/performer Cade/ Statham;
they have taken a mixture of Paul Kersey [from the Death Wish franchise between
1974 to 1994] and Colonel John Matrix [Commando 1985] and this is the result
with a British twist; which hypothetically has a lot of space to grow if at
minimum they wanted to do another instalment, it needs to be said that if there
was to be a sequel they also need to bring back Lefferty/Harbour; even though
his role is support but also limited, he is a integral and vital part as he
knows Cade from both worlds serving and rotating back to the real world, so he
understands what he is going to do, but also reminding him he is now back in
the real world; so as you can see this chemistry is priceless and for the rest
of the cast they are all good on both counts.
This film receives: 8/10, this film is excellent; it delivers an
old-fashioned action for the modern day, any connoisseur of the action genre
should see this film hopefully on the big screen whilst you have the chance.
