In
the 1940's during the Second World War:
briefly; the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was creating; we
follow one team in particular Rockford Peaches; manager Jimmy Dugan [Tom Hanks:] an ex-pro baseball
player which is a drunk with a bad knee, luckily they have Dorothy
"Dottie" "Queen of Diamonds" Hinson [Younger woman: Geena
Davis/Older: Lynn Cartwright:] she is #8 the assistant manager/catcher, the
down to earth one of the group, she has a younger sister; her name is Kit
Keller [Younger woman: Lori Petty/Older: Kathleen Butler:] she is #23 pitcter,
she wants to prove herself, "All the Way" Mae Mordabito [Younger
woman: Madonna/Older: Eunice Anderson:] she is #5 centre field, streetwise and
finally we have Doris Murphy [Younger women: Rosie O'Donnell/Older: Vera Johnson:]
she is#22 third base and the wisecracking one.
Generally
speaking: the framework and pacing of this
128 minutes film is good; as in it has an outlay of beginning in the 1980s
[present times in this film] and goes back to the era of World War II and back
again; it uses Hinson's memory recall to get back to the 1940s.
Performances, character developments, comedy, art and
action; well I was thinking I would do things this way to point out that clear
and obvious thing first; everything relies on these performances of this cast
and its natural and free-flowing chemistry, we have a good variety of character
types such as as I have already said the drunk or and just to record I am not
one saying this even though it is in my content, we have maybe not the best
looking woman and just to cover my back a little bit more; it is clearly
indicated would one it is and because we have a good variety of characters, it
opens the door to natural comedy; such as
Dugan going for a long and spending of a penny or/and later on him
having a go at one of his players, with its not going that well with him saying
there is no crying in baseball, but the next time he is much more restrained
even though you find this incredibly difficult as you will see.
Mordabito/Madonna perform this dancing sequence with different dancing
partners; the natural quick fluency of this sequence as to be given high praise
indeed and I just had to have a look the for saying this; it is just a shame it
didn't get any recognition by receiving at the very least a nomination for an
award, I was thinking that the MTV Movie + TV Awards 1993 would have picked up
on it, but no nothing and I am not a fan of baseball, don't get me wrong I get
it, I understand it, I am just not a fan; but these sequence of events are
entertained.
This film receives: 8/10, this
film is excellent; after taking everything into consideration; this is a
pleasant little film that anything less than this mark doesn't look or feel
right and there extra sequences throughout the majority of the ending credits
minus the very ending credits. This film also has some Awards accredited to its
name; 6 that includes American Comedy Awards, USA 1993 American Comedy Award
