Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/bodily
functions/medical
Maybe scoring in every red zone Joe is not a good idea: we meet Joseph/Joe "The King"
Kingman/Tree/Dad [Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson/Dwayne Johnson:] as he is
getting out of bed, he is an arrogant quarterback for the Boston Rebels, the
only thing other than American Football he cares about is his bulldog named
Spike [Tubbs the bulldog:] a very sweet bulldog. That is until one day he gets
a knock at the door, it is a young girl her name is Peyton Kelly/"P"/ballerina [Madison Pettis:] she is a unknown daughter to Kingman,
she is her daddy's daughter alright as she has he is quick mouth and wit and
yes just in case you were wondering she has the medical records to prove that
she is his daughter. She has to stay with him for a month as her mother is
doing last-minute yet very important humanitarian work.
The framework and pacing of this
110 minutes film, well it is like the rest of the film it has been laid out
like the rest of the film and that is to cater for roughly the family
demographic of a mixed age range, beginning with 10-year-olds and up.
Comedy/Action/Art:
we quickly find out that Kingman is allergic to cinnamon, which his newly found
daughter was not aware of this when she kindly made some cookies for him; so we
have this skit of Kingman with this blown up tongue and modified speech trying
to do this sponsorship/commercial with these many attempts [with this blooper
approach,] if you pay attention later on in the film we see the version that
they went with as it gets played on TV. Moving on Kingman plays a modified
version of " Are you lonesome tonight" on a acoustic guitar and yes
we get a small reference to The Rock, well kind of, they have quickly and
elegantly put in Kingman's monologue where he says something to the effect of
" Where has she been living under a rock."
We get game time/practising for
American Football including practising for this ballet performance and actual
performance from these students including Peyton Kelly, Kingman and Monique
Vasquez [Roselyn Sánchez:] she is a highly skilled ballet teacher; this is good
art.
Character development and
performances: are on both counts good, Kingman goes through this coming-of-age
and the character types either initiate Stella Peck [Kyra Sedgwick:] she is
Kingsman's agent that now and again that speaks down to his daughter, which in
turn gets him to stand up for his daughter or grow or/and support this
coming-of-age character type all good as well and finally there is good
chemistry throughout this cast.
This film receives: 6/10, this film is good; as I have already referenced to this film clearly does what it's designed to do and that is entertaining the family. This film also has some awards accredited to its name. 3 Nominees Kids' Choice Awards, USA 2008 Blimp Award Favorite Male Movie Star Dwayne Johnson, ESPY Awards 2008 ESPY Best Sports Movie and Young Artist Awards 2008 Young Artist Award Best Performance in a Feature Film - Young Actress Age Ten or Younger Madison Pettis.
