Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/prison guards
brutality/shooting/suicide/bodily waste
It Wasn't Me. I know Shaggy: but in 1947 Andy Dufresne [Tim Robbins] gets sentenced
to; two concurrent life sentences for murdering his wife and her lover; he gets
sent to this rough prison known as Shawshank, where we meet a whole host of
colourful individuals such as Ellis Boyd
"Red" Redding [Morgan Freeman;] if you want anything he is your man
to get it for you or Warden Samuel Norton [Bob Gunton;] he is a religious, but
also very crooked and his right-hand man Captain Byron Hadley [Clancy Brown;]
he has a very short fuse and is hardly law-abiding either.
The pacing of this 142 minutes film
is good; we have narration from Red from time to time and mix that with
something going on; it has a smooth construction to work with throughout.
Art: these chess pieces that
Dufresne carves to cover my back I am going to say some kind of stone; these
are highly creative.
Action and Comedy: all I can say about the action is keeping this polite; it fits in with prison life and we have a drop of comedy between Dufresne and Red
Character developments and
performances: because this film is based in a prison and as I have already
referenced it does go on for some time; the character developments and their
performances have to at least be well rounded which they all are from Dufresne
and/or Red down to Brooks Hatlen [James Whitmore] and Jake the Crow [on a quick
research I can't find the real name of this Crow] apologies for that or/and
Tommy Williams [Gil Bellows.] I can't believe this section without bringing
this up, they do discuss and show the consequences of being in prison for long
enough as they discuss being institutionalised as they and us make this prison
home for awhile.
This film receives: 10/10; this film is top-notch entertainment; this was my first
time watching this film, originally I didn't know what to mark it as, because
there isn't anything wrong with it. But on reflection I think this film is
about the experience of being within prison and its surroundings without
actually doing anything illegal to experience it in real life and I mean this
from a psychological perspective so if anyone should read this and has been to
these kinds of places I am going to say again from a psychological perspective
so I don't mean any disrespect. Well if you didn't know this film has quite a
lot of awards to its name 21 Winners include 20/20 Awards 2015 Felixs Best
Adapted Screenplay Frank Darabont and Best Cinematography Roger Deakins.
Nominees 43, but if you like your pop quizzes, I know the next thing I am about
to point comes up and it would be this fact; Academy Awards, USA 1995 Oscars
Best Picture Niki Marvin, Best Actor in a Leading Role Morgan Freeman, Best
Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published Frank
Darabont, Best Cinematography Roger Deakins, Best Sound Robert J. Litt Elliot
Tyson Michael Herbick Willie D. Burton. Best Film Editing Richard Francis-Bruce
and Best Music, Original Score Thomas Newman; yes as you can see it had many
opportunities to pick up an Oscar but famously didn't.But let's leave this review on positive; this is one of those films that you need to see once in your lifetime.
