The Salute of the Jugger 1989/1990 [alternative name The Blood of
Heroes] by AverageMansReviews
Review Time
Warning: there is
breaking of leg/facial scarring/biting a piece of ear off/animal cruelty.
Storyline: it is
something I can best describe as; it knows what it is doing from beginning to
end and it sticks to it and not to give too much away, but the ending is on
reflection fits in with this kind of film, but having said that I did say to
the person I was watching this film with "Was that it?" Likewise on
reflection I would say the pacing knows what it is doing and sticks to it; but
this in itself just seems to drift along at no great speed.
Action/Art: the action
revolves around this post-apocalyptic sport known as "The
Game."Firstly non-league you have this team going around from settlement
to settlement waging little items of value against let's just say the resources
of this particular settlement. The basic idea is you have five players on both
teams; the winner is the player that it is their job to put this K-9 skull on
this wooden spike; there are three rounds of 100 stones each; after 300 stones
it is a draw [100 stones is the timer you have this individual throwing 100
stones one by one at something hanging up after 100 stones; break.]
But now on
to the league mostly everything is the same but for some differences; it is ran
by the hierarchy of this society which live deep so deep underground and if you
win they will take care of you and you will get the finest things that this new
world has to offer and finally this man hits this drum with the 100 stones [in
this cage area, he's not trapped, he is just there to do his job; located high
up above the sports arena and to one side.]
Art; there is something good-looking scenery for one example this Sun rising whilst there is a this game going on with and we have bands playing in different locations in this film
Characters/Performances: including the on-screen chemistry; they are what they are; I can't say they are poor, because they are not, but they are something solid.
This film receives: 4/10, this film is mixed; to be more precise I may have illustrated
to you that this film knows what it is designed to be and sticks to that [it is
in the same kind of ballpark as Mad Max,] on a quick side note if there are any
fans of the following performers they are in this project; Rutger Hauer as
Sallow, Delroy as Lindo or Vincent D'Onofrio as Young Gar; take a look at this
film, but don't get your hopes up too much.
