The son has come to release the father: briefly;  Bowser Jr. [voiced by: Benny Safdie:] he is Bowser's son and the Prince of the Koopas, as you will see he is highly skilled in his own right, but for now he has come to the Mushroom Kingdom; but there are two pesky plumbers standing in his way; Mario and  Luigi [voiced by: Chris Pratt and Charlie Day:] they are twin brothers that are plumbers, but at this point in time they are guardians of the Mushroom Kingdom

Generally speaking: the framework and pacing of this 99 minutes film is straightforward in every sense of the word and it moves along at a good pace with some exposition in the character developments on more than one occasion with in one case this anime style exposition in their character developments; which is excellently done and lots of fun as well

Art, action and comedy; predominantly the art is very quick to see as in one way or another there is a lot happening; but before we dive into that they need to get something off my chest Yoshi [voiced by: Donald Glover:] he is a dinosaur type creature; that has a massive tongue like Gene Simmons [lead vocalist for the rock band KISS:] but if Yoshi chooses to swallow he can turn things into eggs and/or depending on what  Koopa Troopas shell colour; he holds in his mouth for a short amount of time; it can give him a special skill; like if my memory is correct if he ingests a red shell it gives him one round of a fire shot on firing. But back to this film; there is one sequence I really didn't like in this sequel and it comes to us into part; Yoshi walking into this sequence/with the camera behind him and then a moment or two later flipping the sequence where he is running towards the camera. I know what they were trying to do and that was to give a more immersive experience, but it just came off really clunky and tacky.

But other than that we have a lot to work with the planets aspects are fantastic, they have all been given their own personal touches; such as  Princess Peach and Toad [voiced by: Anya Taylor-Joy and Keegan-Michael Key:] she is the Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom and he is a right hand Mushroom; they are on a mission to rescue somebody: but they are currently in this casino backdrop; where relatively early on we have this smart and elegant dimensional shift done by one step of Princess Peach: now this is how you do a more immersive experience dimensional shift where our two are faced with taking on some Ninji or later on an action sequence using elements of the first generation Nintendo being fused with modern animation or feather/cape from Super Mario World 1990 from the Super Nintendo and watch out for this information robot; he is unintentionally annoying but it comical genius.

Character developments and voice performances; broadly speaking first of all; the character developments are by and large solidly good; but I am sorry that character developments of Bowser, the King of the Koopas and ruler of the Dark Lands [voiced by Jack Black;] is currently being held prisoner in a little castle in the Mushroom Kingdom; but I digress; his character developments are atrocious and moronic; as we have Bowser at one point making reference to the fact he is never been there for his kid, much later on he says to Mario basically we had our time and now I am back. So in essence the script writers have flushed what could have been an excellent character development arc for this sequel down the nearest waste pipe/portal; I know for the people that have seen this sequel it is a very small part of the film; but they did the first part when he made reference to the fact he has never been there for his kid, so all they had to do was finish it off with Bowser saying; you know what Mario, I have never chosen Jr. until now, so if that means I'm back... so be it I am back baby.

I mean it would have been an excellent character arc, it would have given Bowser character growth using the outlay of coming-of-age which in turn would have given Mario a wrinkle of growth as he can respect to that level  Bowser's choice, but like I said they pretty much flushed this avenue down the nearest waste pipe/portal, so as it relates to Bowser we are pretty much back to the start of his character growth journey. The voice performances; returning voices are more settled into their familiar roles as you would come to expect with this sequel, the new cast members; slot in fluently well and can't wait to see what they have installed for them next, but I cannot stress this enough I would say on seeing this film twice now Bowser is in danger of getting left behind as it relates to his character developments, which by the third film could end up sticking out like a sore thumb.

This film receives: 8/10, this film is excellent; as you can see it does have some problems in one way or another including I decided to take a mark off as the thing with Bowser it just irritated me so much, but then again it does tick every box on what a Super Mario Bro's animated film should be, but as I have previously stated it does have that outlay old linchpin approach to another project and if you don't know what this expression means in a nutshell; it many do the groundwork for a future project with introducing or moving characters around or essentially getting everything ready for another project in the future, so I mean I have heard some people say essentially there is much happening, there is but without giving too much away they are hopefully just getting ready for a future project and yes there are two closing credit scenes; the first after the first bunch of ending credits which are artistically excellent and the second is right at the end of the closing credits
