12 Norse and 1 Middle Eastern go on an adventure: briefly; these Norse have to go and help this village, but the bones say 1 of not Norse must go with them; Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan [Antonio Banderas:] he is a middle eastern individual that has been banished from his homeland for falling in love with an individual, but now finds himself on this adventure.

Generally speaking: the storyline/script in conjunction with the foundation and pacing is all good for this 102 minutes film; we do get this character developments/exposition voice over from/of Fahdlan: this is one of those movies where okay we quite clearly deal with before this adventure; but having said that this film is predominantly focused on this adventure and nothing after; so on reflection; it is predominantly situation/adventure based project and based on that I will give this project and extra mark, because it doesn't claim to be anything other than that.

Art and action; the set designs, scenery, wardrobe and etc are like the action sequences; well presented and without giving too much away we have a little skirmish behind enemy lines which likewise on reflection is the standout action of events as we get more variety of; mission, silence, attack, evacuation and art as we go underwater.

Comedy, character developments, action and performances; well this is comedy but also character developments; where these particular characters of Norse have somewhat questionable hygiene and how can I put this nicely?... They recycle the same water and Fahdlan and another politely decline, sometime later Fahdlan shows what he can do with a sword of his making and culture; so we very much have elements of a cultural divide and how Fahdlan learns how to speak Norse/consequently we the audience learn how to understand Norse also; in short the movie turns over to English... is a elegant way of doing things. Now this is very much a cast performance of all good chemistry and camaraderie as they all wanted to get this film done.

This film receives: 7/10, this film is good; as I referenced earlier; if you just see it as what it is; which is a good solid present adventure and nothing more then you can't go far wrong with it, but if you are expecting something anything other than this then and I am not disrespecting this film or anyone reading this; but maybe this film isn't for you. This film also has some awards accredited to its name 2 Winners which include but not limited to ALMA Award Outstanding Actor in a Feature Film Antonio Banderas ALMA Awards 2000. 2 Nominees which also includes but not limited to Make-up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Award Best Period Hair Styling - Feature Peter Tothpal Janet MacDonald Angelina P.
