Review Time

Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/child abuse/drugs/animal cruelty/cutting/references to homosexuality, Soviet Union and Russia

A little time leading up to Prom: briefly; we meet Andie Walsh [Molly Ringwald:] she is a very talented individual, that is intelligent, and make her own fashion, have a job and look after her father, we are here to experience her life from now until night on the prom.

Generally speaking: the script, framework and pacing; well the script has a good outlay with just a hint of comedy bits and pieces, the framework and pacing of this 97 minute film is slow, it does get quicker roughly around I would say just before the final quarter or somewhere around here.

Art, comedy and action; obviousl and it clearly very much a 1980s artistic visions going on, from Annie Potts as Iona: she is the owner of Tracks: a vinyl store, where Andie works also. So Iona has this like collage of vinyl records on the ceiling or/and her wardrobe changes throughout our this film: excellent usage of 1980's fashion. Jon Cryer as Philip F. "Duckie" Dale: he goes to the same school as Andie, they have known each other since they were very young, he has always had strong feelings for her and she knows it. As I made reference to earlier as we don't have too much in the way of comedy, the two comedy scenes/moment I have; both involve Duckie; he basically let sync in Tracks to the song title: "Try a Little Tenderness" released in 1932 sung by Otis Redding and let's just say he put in a enthusiastic interpretation and much later on Duckie he breaks the-fourth-wall when he notices a girl is interested in him and he looks down the camera; to indicate I will be fine, as he goes off to meet this girl and finally Duckie at some point will get into a scuffle

Character developments and performances; they are well rounded on both counts, but I have decided to award this project another mark based on the performances of Ringwald, Potts and Harry Dean Stanton as Jack Walsh: he is a good man, that isn't taking taking something particularly well, but he is trying to be there for his daughter. So in one way or another Andie looking after her dad and run the house a bit, on the other hand we have Ringwald and Potts: having this multilayered relationship between the best friends, mother and sister or two sisters or possibly senior worker at this record store and even on top of that we have Ringwald leading the cast masterfully as she is broadly speaking a resourceful individual being her own fashion designer, being put in a house position of responsibility even though she is 18 years old, it is still a bit too young to have all of this responsibility on one's shoulders even though he is mentally able to handle it with maturity and she doesn't take things lying down either and finally in this section the rest of the cast put in either good to very good character types or/and performances to bring positivity and chemistry to the rest of the cast as a whole.

This film receives: 9/10, this film is excellent; yes this film may not be for most of the time the quickest, but then again it does hit all of John Hughes' hallmark criteria as he is the Writer, but not Director for this project as on some level or another or multiple levels, filmmaker: he is very much the King of the Coming-of-Age genre. This film also has an award credited to its name such as 1 Winner MI Film & TV Awards 1987 BMI Film Music Award Michael Gore

But sadly it has recently as of this content being first created has come to my attention that he has sadly passed on or I had forgotten he had passed on, but either way, I will dedicate this content to him. RIP John Hughes: your impact on the film industry will stand the test of time RIP John Hughes 1950-2009
