After losing everything he joins
the circus: briefly; this story is about Jacob
Jankowski [Younger: Robert Pattinson/Older:
Hal Holbrook:] he is an educated, but unlicensed veterinarian, that
finds himself in a rather interesting adventure with animals, danger and love.
Generally speaking: the framework and pacing of this 120 minutes to is
good; it uses the old and reliable [if done correctly, which it is done here]
the outlay of storyteller.
Character
developments and performances, comedy and action; the character developments,
performances and the cast chemistry is broadly speaking there; they all perform
their character types to a solid level, but this film does need fivesome of
Pattinson/Holbrook, August & Marlena
Rosenbluth [Christoph Waltz and Reese Witherspoon:] this husband-and-wife is
the owner of this circus known as Benzini Brothers Circus, he is the
owner/ringmaster and she is star, that performed with the animals and she has
gymnastic skills as well and finally we have Rosie the Elephant/other name [Tai
the Elephant:] she is a beautiful and highly skilled elephant in no time to be
comical; as she picks up this spike with her trunk which is meant to keep in
this situation, but she has better ideas, as she picks it up and just casually
go for a drink and then walk back to her pen, then puts the spike back in the
ground, to keep the illusion that is human beings have control over her; whilst
Younger Jankowski/Pattinson is standing there watching as this all unfolds. But
I have to say on reflection Pattinson and Witherspoon's on-screen chemistry to
be flagged as a pancake as it is very much formulaic and going through the
motions, I have just realised Holbrook as Older Jankowski; puts in a supremely
better performance, as he puts a cross genuine emotions, recalling their time
together and that is as much as I can say without giving too much away.
This film receives: 5/10, this film is mixed; the storyteller outlay and
the artistic visions are the two biggest positives to this film, but the rest
is broadly speaking meh. This film also has some awards accredited to its name
such as 4 Winners that include but not limited to Satellite Awards 2011
Satellite Award Best Costume Design Jacqueline West, 13 Nominees would also
include but not limited to from the same award ceremony/event Best Art
Direction & Production Design Jack Fisk.
