I have to leave town: briefly; Edward Cullen [Robert
Pattinson:] he is the vampire boyfriend of Bella Swan [Kersten Stewart:] she is
devastated by this turn of events, but Edward believes it is for the best based
on previous events. This leaves Bella alone, confused and like I said
devastated, but she has one person that she can rely on Jacob Black [Taylor
Lautner: but he to has some problems at the moment, as he seems to be going
through puberty twice
Generally speaking: the framework and pacing of
this 130 minutes film is broadly good; we have this coming full circle outlay
in this sequel; the framework and pacing can also simultaneously sync with the
character developments and the performances meaning in a nutshell; when they
are going through a good patch or jarring or lacklustre this sequel has
intermittent flow to it.
Art, action, character developments and comedy; we still have the nature
of Forks and all that, the action has a good variety such as Bella tries new
things such as a motorcycle, just so that she can see Edward, we now get to see
more of Edward's abilities/talents as he can send telepathic/spiritual
representations of himself to Bella which they can communicate with one
another; which are represented by spirit [I know, I know it is weird that I am
talking about spiritual/spirit as it relates to Edward considering he is a
vampire, but there we go: these elements are a glowing positive to this sequel,
Bella, Jacob and Michael Welch as Mike Newton: he is a member of Bella's high
school friendship group, that attempts to get her to go on a date to the
cinema, but she opens it up to the friendship group, where Jacob tags along to
see this; of what we understand and what is implied is this graphic action film
by the name of Face Punch where Mike struggles to keep his lunch down.
Character developments, art and performances; the surrounding characters
and performances are all good and show some level of growth in one way or
another and the newcomers just slot in to this instalment with ease and
comfort, I don't know what they were going for as it relates to Pattinson as
his character has clearly aged, which obviously is physically going to happen
in reality, but as Edward makes reference to it in the first film broadly
speaking he has been a certain age in our world for a while, they did a poor
job slowing down his physical ageing. The vital performances of our trio of
Pattinson as Edward, Stewart as Bella and Lautner as Jacob: individually or in
different combinations or altogether; they can all be described as patchy at
best; sometimes they are in sync with what is happening at that specific time
and it can be good, but at other times it can be jarring; even with their
characters not being mature as it relates to Edward being monotone about going
away [I know what they were trying to do here: what with him not doing too much
emotion away and being cold as to protect Bella:] so I get it but it fell
really flat, Stewart as Bella: having these bad dreams or night terrors; these
are extremely over the top and poorly acted and Lautner as Jacob: has a similar
problem to Edward in fact the over arching chemistry between the trio is mixed
at best.
This film receives: 7/10, this film is good; after
everything is said and done this instalment finds itself in this section of my
marking system, I am really disappointed that this is the only instalment I
couldn't watch at the cinema, because I was double booked, but I digress; it moves
things on nicely to the following instalment which is Eclipse, I mean if you
want the full title is; The Twilight Saga: Eclipse 2010 and usually
I don't give this away but this is the only ending credit detail at the end of
the ending credits. This film has 23 Winners to its name and I have to be
honest they are a mixed bag positive and negative awards, which includes but
not limited to: Kids' Choice Awards, USA 2010 Blimp Award Favorite
Movie Actor Taylor Lautner and Cutest Couple Taylor Lautner Kristen Stewart as
Jacob Black & Bella Swan. 24 Nominees which also include but not limited to
from the same Awards event/ceremony Favorite Movie and Cutest Couple
Robert Pattinson Kristen Stewart as Edward Cullen & Bella Swan. Negative Winners
Women Film Critics Circle Awards 2009 WFCC Award Hall of Shame "Bella
(lead human female) is completely pathetic, the whole giving up one's soul
thing. How sad is it when a gal in a small town picks two boys she likes, one
is a vampire and one is a werewolf" and Yoga Awards 2010 Yoga
Award Worst Foreign Actor Robert Pattinson. Negative Nominees which include but
not limited to Razzie Awards 2010 Razzie Award Worst Screen Couple Kristen
Stewart Robert Pattinson Taylor Lautner Kristin Stewart and either Robert
Pattinson or Taylor Whatz-His-Fang and Worst Screenplay Melissa Rosenberg Based
on the novel by Stephenie Meyer.
One final thing: I am sure no one is going to mind, but I'm going to
dedicate this content to Graham Greene as Harry Clearwater: he is a Quileute
elder/Native American and Charlie's friend, but he clearly knows more than what
he is letting on. Unfortunately Greene has very recently passed on in the last
time I saw him in a project it was Marvel Studios Echo 2024 as Skully: without
giving too much away he is a grandpa figure and Greene still had it: in every
scene he was a part of he took it and ran with whatever they gave him this; so
RIP Graham Greene 1952-2025
