Review Time
Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/burning/shooting/domestic violence/medical/references to racism.
Shaft is back!: briefly; Private Detective John Shaft [Richard Roundtree:] is
still the best private detective around, but when one of his friends is killed
in an explosion, he is on the case, but at least his friend didn't find out
that Shaft was sexually involved with his sister. But at some point this will
involve Bumpy Jonas [Moses Gunn:] he is still a high ranking mobster.
Generally speaking: the storyline is one of those where in conjunction with the
character developments is good, but also we find out too much, too early on,
either separately or together or consequently this film has good pacing, but
isn't as fluently mobile as its predecessor roughly speaking there isn't much
difference between the time length of movies previous instalment 100 minutes,
this instalment roughly 104 minutes long.
Comedy, action and art; this
character is getting rather impatient for the lift, so he has a little pop and
this old lady, which reminds him to use his manners, but doing so she uses an
adult reference herself. We have this team up of Private Detective Shaft and
Drew Bundini Brown as Willy: he is still the right-hand man to Jonah: they are
a pair of window washers high up outside this location and they run in through
an open window to take on this individual Willy leaves Private Detective Shaft
hanging as he explains: in a nutshell and I am paraphrasing here essentially he
has heard about Private Detective Shaft fighting style and qualities so he just
wanted to witness it firsthand, but at some point Willey does get involved and at
some point or another: we have this dancing club with these two dancing ladies
one in the silver get up and the other is dressed in this lion get up
interpretation: this is highly engagable art and around the final section and
beyond this lengthy action sequence: be it from an action sequence perspective
or/and artistic perspective: it is all good fun, be it a chasing sequence in a
vehicle on land, sea or air; there is so much to work with in this lengthy
action sequence.
Character developments and performances;
minus what I have already said they are on both counts good; we have Richard
Roundtree as John Shaft, Moses Gunn as Bumpy Jonas and Drew Bundini Brown as
Willy, but for newcomers we have Joseph Mascolo as Gus Mascola: he is yes a
criminal, which clearly leans more towards being a businessman; I mean a
crooked businessman but still a businessman nonetheless that wants his money
back of $250,000 and Julius W. Harris/Julius Harris as Captain Bollin: as
Lieutenant Vic Androzzi: Captain Bollin understands likewise the importance of
working with someone like Private Detective Shaft, but is far not as
accommodating as Lieutenant Androzzi:there is good chemistry throughout this
cast, but in particular is named/characters I have mentioned here.
This film receives: 6/10, this film is good, as I said earlier I can appreciate the
story outlay, but it isn't as pacey the previous instalment to this franchise
and yes we have bits and pieces happening through the closing credits.
