The older generation meets the
younger generation, meets the oldest generation: briefly; J. Daniel "Danny" Atlas [Jesse
Eisenberg:] he is still the same Atlas that we left all those years ago, just
older, he was at one time the leader of the now defunct the Four Horsemen, so
he tracks down these 3 talented individuals such as June McClure [Ariana
Greenblatt:] she is a very highly skilled lock picker and pickpocketer; their
mission is to take down Veronika Vanderberg [Rosemary Pike:] she is a diamond
merchant and money-laundering and finally on our travels we get to meet
Thaddeus Bradley [Morgan Freeman:] he is a retired magician-turned-debunker,
that has a long history with the Eye and the Four Horsemen.
Generally speaking: the framework pacing of this 112 minutes film is good;
it does nicely roll along throughout this timeframe
Art,
action and comedy; the art on these tricks or staged tricks such as the
spinning location is of the highest order of excellence not only from a visual
perspective, but also an execution. But there are some things I was not a fan
of such as; the location text on screen and would someone like to tell me what
the hell was going on with Vanderberg/Pike's make up regardless of what she was
wearing be it at everyday clothing or/and dress up? Because I am not a make-up
artist or anything like that, but even I found it messy as hell, one minute it
is thin, the next minute it is heavy; then again I should point out I hate the
usage of too much foundation and just for the record Pike is gorgeous woman, so
they should have been highlighting what
was already naturally there, we have a location breakout with a dark comedy
reference which starts and adds to the chaos.
Character
developments, comedy and performances; the character developments are broadly
speaking of a positive standard; ranging from good to masterfully engineered
and everything in the middle, the comedy is likewise well thought out and
executed; with one proviso for here and now and this instalment; it is
perfectly timed to do this comedy generation age gap thing as it relates to the
old school characters/performers and the new blood characters/performers; even
though it builds fantastic chemistry between this cast. I stress doing an
identical point in time, in another project won't have the same impact twice,
yes absolutely if you want you can bring back the comedy style, but at the same
time you have to show time has passed and it characters/performers have grown
and the cast of performers just gel smoothly together.
This film receives: 9/10, this film was excellent after; after everything
is said and done it rightly deserves this mark, it successfully melds old parts
with new ones, the negatives I have already spoken about at some point or
another in this content already and it leaves things ready for another
instalment, even though I have said this and there is an extra scene at the end
of this movie; this is the worst kept secret in modern times of cinema, based
on the fact two or three days before this film was released, you could
accidentally put a 4 instead of a 3 into a well-known search engine and could
find out that there is movement of a fourth instalment to this franchise.
