There isn't much safe about this
sequel other than the condoms commercial:
briefly; Sergeants Roger Murtaugh and Martin Riggs [Danny Glover and Mel
Gibson:] they still work for the LAPD, but even for them they might even have
bit off more than they can chew going after this South African diplomat in the
form of Arjen Rudd [Joss Ackland:] he is a South African diplomat which may or
may not be up to his eyeballs in criminal activity, but one thing is for
certain, he has diplomatic immunity.
Generally speaking: the framework and pacing of this 114 minutes is busy
with gusto.
Action,
comedy and art; from the very beginning of this sequel we meet our two
favourite Sergeants Murtaugh and Riggs in a high-speed chase, then Sergeant
Riggs yet again finds himself in a swimming pool, which including the chaos
leading up to this dunk it is all excellent comedy and on top of that, Sergeant
Riggs let's just say releases these fishes to make his escape, leaving these
questionable individuals to deal with this situation and finally we have
Sergeants Riggs literally bringing the house down, so as you can probably tell
the imagination and high level of creativity to pull off these sequences and
others has to be given high praise indeed for looking clean and
tidy/chaotically, fluidly structured, comical and manic.
Character
developments, performances and comedy; they are excellent as for the returning
cast of characters things get excellently progressed and filled out, I can also
appreciate the fact that they chose to keep Sergeant Riggs' mental health
issues still in the background, but yes scale them back to show that he has
been around the Murtaugh family long enough to show that he is improving, but
they unhinged nature is still there, when it is required. Because as someone
with a mental health illness, it is an unrealistic and I hate it when people
say I am cured or anything like this from a mental health illness, because I
will tell you a secret, there is no cure and for those people that say they
are; they are lying to you and themselves, now in short if you want to say it
is under control or something like this... Fine that would be a fair assessment
depending on the situation, but we clearly see the benefits of the Murtaugh's
on Sergeant Riggs, but it just isn't a one way street, he is very much a part
of the family as he feels comfortable and safe enough with them to talk about
his history with Trish Murtaugh [Darlene Love:] she is the matriarch of the
Murtaugh family, the wife to Roger and his children, she likes Martin and sees
him as a part of the family, she keeps everything going whilst her husband and
Martin are doing their thing, but this lady is not a pushover, because she
deals with so much and what she says goes, okay Roger can protest or tried to
protest but it won't get him very far. But back to this discussion with
Sergeant Riggs: it may be a decent size moment but it sure is a lot of
character developments from all concerned.
Now
moving on to the newcomers: Rika Van Den Haas [Patsy Kensit:] she is a South
African Consulate Secretary to this South African diplomat: because her
excellent character developments and them being straightforward, I can't tell
too much about them, but there are still excellent nonetheless and likewise the
same goes for Leo Getz [Joe Pesci:] he is a money laundering that is giving evidence,
but until then he is being kept under wraps and this job has been given to
Sergeant Murtaugh and Sergeant Riggs: the reason why I can't say too much is
because that would be giving too much of the film away in both cases, but when
you watch this film it will be explained, the performances from the cast ranged
from good to excellent; there really is free-flowing positive chemistry
throughout and Getz/Pesci really does just slot in to the comedy aspects as
well; these three performers from time to time even in serious moments or not
have excellent comedic synergy.
This film receives: 10/10, this film is top-notch entertainment; as I have
already indicated things get progressed excellently, now we have the inclusion
of Joe Pesci as Leo Getz which just adds to the chaos and comedy and there is
an ongoing sequence after the ending credits are rolling underneath the ending
credits. This film also has some awards accredited to its name such as 1 Winner
BMI Film & TV Awards 1990 BMI Film Music Award Michael Kamen Eric Clapton
David Sanborn and 3 Nominees which include but not limited to Academy Awards,
USA Oscar Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing Robert G. Henderson Alan Robert
Murray
