I know I wasted my time watching
the film, but I would recommend you don't do the same: briefly; we need Dorian Gray [Ben Barnes:] he is
originally a good young man, but slowly but surely gets corrupted by Henry
Wotton [Colin Firth:] a slightly older man which enjoys the finer things in
life and we have Basil Hallward [Ben Chaplin:] he is a painter that paints
Gray's portrait that has strange goings-on about it.
Generally speaking: straight off the bat; this film is completely and
utterly forgettable, even though I had just watched it some days ago now:
Usually yes I would put something like script, framework and pacing and in some
cases so on and so forth which I will do all the rest of this content, but for
here and now there is an any point of doing this, simply because this film in
its entirety is and I am being nice; extremely nice when I say this; this film
is complete and utter garbage.
The
script, framework and pacing of this 112 minutes film; okay there is the bare
minimum of things going on, but there is no, absolutely none get up and go to
it so this 112 minutes feels so incredibly longer than what it actually is; in
fact on seeing 112 minutes if it wasn't in front of me I wouldn't believe it
that is for sure I think we have multiple time jumps all over the place I
think, this would be a good time to say I really don't care about this film.
Art
and action; the only consistent positive is the scene construction, wardrobe
and basically everything that makes this a period drama: visually and the
action sequences are a dismal and lacklustre.
Character
developments and performances; well it has to be said with or without the
framework and pacing and everything else on top minus the positives, the
character developments and performances; well I get the metaphor and symbolism
of what happens to Gray; but it is so poorly executed, on top of that it feels
really empty and void of charisma or/and charm on one hand and individually or
together; you could say that the character developments and/or the performances
have been left an impossible task to fill up all of this empty space, as a
consequence of the framework and pacing of this film being the way it is or/and
on the other hand you could say putting that to one side for a minute on their
own merits; there isn't any real substance to them in the first place and no
one is stepping up to be a driving force behind this film or anything like
that, you know put this film on your back or/and backs and carry it at least
that way I have potentially something other to be positive about, yet again
back in reality instead of doing this; everyone has a parachute on; then
jumping out of a plane just to realise that they have a massive hole in their
individual parachutes: there is zero chemistry throughout this cast, unless they
were going for real authentic British controlling oneself from this time
period, which would then explain the zero chemistry [yes I am being
sarcastic/facetious here.
This film receives: 1/10, this film is poor; this is one of those rare
occasions that I am just happy to get through this film and never see it again,
I watched this film with the person I want some others contend with and I don't
have to ask this individual in this case; but I think we can both agree never
to watch it again or in my case if I mysteriously lose this content then I have
no other choice. But somehow pigs flew and somehow this film as 1 positive
Nomination to its name in the form of: Sitges - Catalonian International Film
Festival 2009 Best Film Oliver Parker
