Mrs. Brown 1997 [alternative name Mrs Brown] by AverageMansReviews
Review Time
Warning: there is shooting/animal hunting/animal cruelty/medical
In mourning: briefly; Queen Victoria/other names
[Judi Dench:] the Queen is mourning the death of her husband Prince Albert
[Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha] and no one seems able to get through
to her. But wait there is one man that goes way back with her husband John
Brown [Billy Connolly:] he is a Scottish Highlander, that has a bigger than
life presence, personality, but can be quite reserved, also he just says it as
he finds it, he also has a member of his family here as well; Archie Brown
[Gerard Butler:] he is in the service of the Queen.
Generally speaking: the framework well it has been given this divider of years or
months and full circle, but on the whole the framework and pacing of this 103
minutes film is good
Art and action; the landscapes,
scenery and wardrobe and etc of a very high standard; it does what it is
designed to do which is; draw in its viewers from the modern world [ or modern
world compared to this timeframe] and bring this time in history to life. I did
like the machine [by person powered cogs mechanism] Queen's swimming/changing
room.] Basically; this changing room gets moved by this method so that the Queen
can go straight from her changing to swim and in reverse without the
inconvenience of her person touching grass or anything like this: it is
ingenious.
Character developments, performances
and comedy; on both counts, because this film is based in historic reality,
meaning these people are a part of history, these character developments are
just following what we know of them from history; broadly speaking the
performances are all good and likewise the chemistry throughout the cast is all
good as well. But let's be completely honest here; and now focus on the driving
forces behind the project Dench and Connelly; make an excellent
pairing/partnership as Queen is very clearly still mourning the loss of her
dear Prince Albert we have Brown trying to get her motivated either standing
outside with her horse so she can go out for a ride day in and day out or not
really standing on ceremony and referring to her as a woman or something to
that effect; as to indicate you can take a Scottish man out of the Highlands, but
you can't take the Highlands out of the Scottish man, he does not do this
disrespectfully, but on the contrary it does not tolerate her witnesses or less
than what she is capable of, but the Queen/Dench is more than strong enough to
stand on her own two feet to anybody that disrespects her or/and undermine or
tries to undermine her.
This film receives: 7/10, this film is good; if you haven't seen it before, it is well
worth a watch especially if individually or together you are a fan of Judi
Dench or/and Billy Connolly. This film does have some awards accredited to its
name such as 12 Winners that includes but not limited to BAFTA Awards, Scotland
