In 1889 Vienna: briefly; this mysterious individual has returned to
where he grew up; Eduard Abramovich [Younger Eduard Abramovich: Aaron
Johnston/Aaron Taylor-Johnson/Older: Edward Norton:] he has returned to show
off his talents, but his motives are unclear to begin with, but you will be
getting watched by Chief Inspector Walter Uhl [Paul Giamatti:] he is excellent
at his job, but he is also getting put under massive pressure to pin something
on Abramovich and make it stick.
Generally speaking: the framework and pacing of this 110 minutes film is
broadly speaking good; start with we get given a lot of exposition and on top
of that eventually we do go full circle, but there are some occasions where; it
does lose get up and go. But luckily enough it has two individuals/one
partnership that will generate more than enough on-screen chemistry for this
film to be fluently engageable in the form of Norton and/or Giamatti
Art
and action; they did everything possible at the time to bring this film to life
with its set designs, wardrobe and accessories to its mystical component; I
really did appreciate the dark/darkness presentation when it was being brought
into play; it gives the mystical situations a presentation of seriousness as it
takes a lot of effort and/or something could possibly go wrong.
Character
developments, performances and voice performances; on all counts these are
good; but it has to be said Norton or/and Giamatti: really do make a massive
impact on this film, as individually they are both very articulate individuals
that also is aware of one another's intellect, so there is a mutual respect for
what each other does and how this situation goes down: this is on-screen
chemistry gold.
This film receives: 7/10, this film is good; as I have already indicated in
one way or another it does need Norton or/and Giamatti to be the driving force
behind this title, to the point where I feel completely comfortable suggesting
that without these two individually or/and pairing this film would have fallen
flat on its face. This film also has some awards accredited to its name such;
11 Winner such as but not limited to National Board of Review, USA 2006 NBR
Award Top Independent Films and 12 Nominees which includes but not limited to
Academy Awards, USA 2006 Oscar Best Achievement in Cinematography Dick Pope.
