Copycat 1995 by AverageMansReviews
Review Time
Warning:
there is flashing effects/colourful
effects/shooting/stabbing/torture/hanging/drugs/suffocation/dismemberment/burning/man
on woman violence/references to capital punishment, German dictator and sexism.
13
months later: basically; there is this copycat
committing these murders and Inspector Mary Jane "M.J." Monahan
[Holly Hunter:] she is in charge of this case with her partner Inspector Reuben
Goetz [Dermot Mulroney:] that believes in shoot to kill/death. They go to Dr.
Helen Hudson [Sigourney Weaver:] a doctor in criminal psychologist that 13
months previous went through an horrific situation, consequently is now
agoraphobic, but agrees to help them.
Generally
speaking: the script and character developments;
well to be brutally honest but ultimately fair it doesn't help that this film
goes on for 123 minutes and roughly around the 48th minute mark we are spoonfed
the identity of the criminal, I mean what the hell, the framework and pacing
isn't the most quickest either I mean it is progressive and not forgetting the
whiff of very clear sexism towards Inspector Monahan for being in predominately
a male oriented position and I know, I know this was the 1990's for you, which
I lived through once. But even by its standards it was a little bit much, I am
glad that the more we get through this film it fades away more and more until
it isn't there.
Action; there are guns and medical procedures
Character developments and performances; the characters
developments are for most parts good, but yet again let's be brutally honest
the success of this film completely relies on Weaver and/or Hunter on both
counts individually they are highly intelligent knowing their fields, but one
being ultimately changed by completely understandable experience and the other
believing in disarming and excellent at her job; but to give they want to solve
this case; they make an excellent team and if I haven't made this crystal clear
already allow me to say this was 100% clarity they are the driving force behind
this project.
This
film receives: 6/10, this film is good; it is a
solidly good film; that if you are into this kind of thing; is worth a watch
especially if you are a fan of individually or together Weaver and/or Hunter;
there is this extra ongoing scene in the first ending credits. This film also
has some awards accredited to its name such as 2 Winners; Cognac Festival du
Film Policier 1996 Special Mention Sigourney Weaver Holly Hunter For their
acting performance and from the same award sound only/event Audience Award Jon
Amiel. 1Nominee Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA
1996 Saturn Award Best Music Christopher Young.
