Warning: there is environmental/shooting/burning
Chan, Ma and Cena:
in a nutshell; "Dragon" Luo Feng [Jackie Chan:] the leader of a Black
Ops operation that goes wrong, he is also here to reconnect with his estranged
daughter [Chunrui Ma:] but as a part of this convoy, she wants absolutely
nothing to do with her father and on a quick side note we never find out her
name, she is just referred to as daughter. Chris Van Horne [John Cena:] an
ex-Black Ops Special Forces, that is a member of these criminals that wanted to
take these very valuable packages, he is not interested in this criminal
activity he is just interested in getting paid for an honourable reason, to
hopefully get $100,000 so that his village can have fresh running water.
Generally speaking: the framework and pacing of this 102 minutes film, well
let's be honest this film solely comes alive on every single level when this
trio works at minimum in the same sequence, without them in close proximity
together man this film is so slow.
Art; we have the artistic
presentation of something from the Mad Max franchise with its all-round
approach such as the desert and this vehicle chasing down sequence, we also
have these eye-catching like aerials structures [ you will know them when you
see them, because as some point they get blown up; so that is a dead giveaway.]
We also have a subtle artistic vision in the action sequences from time to time
for an example; we the viewers are on board the choppers, but on the outside
experiencing what it would be like to be from this camera shot, this happens
another three times in this film from different shots, you will have to just
pay attention to find them. Action and comedy; yes these two components
fluently go hand-in-hand in this film; "Dragon" Luo Feng vs. Chris
Van Horne; we get to the point where Feng is trying to drop this long Cabinet
shape object on Van Horne foot or a little time after this they are
dysfunctionally trying to work together to take care of this current situation
with hand grenades and let's just say they can't find the right rhythm to the point
where if Van Horne doesn't get rid of it in quick time he can kiss his hand
goodbye.
Much later on Luo Feng's daughter
has picked up Van Horne in search of her father in Van Horne's vehicle named
Suzie, which Van Horne knows where he is so the three of them are in hot
pursuit. But what is driving Van Horne nuts is Luo Feng's daughter either not
used driving a manual car, so you have to change the gears yourself or as she
indicates something might be wrong with Suzie.
Character developments and
performances; now because of the world we live in I have to be very careful of
what I say next; if you have been alive long enough, you would know we went
through a phase of culture divide; we have a little of that in this film here
where Van Horne can speak Chinese [ the subtitles tell me it is Chinese] and we
have Luo Feng correcting him, then again later on very briefly between his
daughter and Van Horne making reference to having a gun and him being American,
quickly moving on the character developments and performances from this cast
are all good, but let's be honest the trio I have made reference to in this
content are very much the spearhead of this project with their excellent
on-screen chemistry.
This film receives: 6/10, this film is good; this mark is meant to reflect before this trio could make an impact and very much after making an impact, this film after this trio get a hold of this film, there is so much going on like here is something for you to look out for; Luo Feng taking care of this main hench-person, whilst he is in this spring harness and surrounded by fire foam or something to that substance or description and finally we have two extra sequences in the closing credits on the left-hand side whilst the first credits come down; the ending of this film and then secondly in the second lot of credit which I am taking an educated guess but to cover my back I could be wrong is in Chinese, we get the bloopers.
