Pay-Per-View Rewind of: NWA/WCW Halloween Havoc: Settling The Score 28/10/1989 Match 1 Part 1 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!
Chosen by: Me; for 3 reasons; 1. I have never seen any of the
Halloween Havoc's pay-per-views of any description, I know they are legendary
by reputation from NWA/WCW or specifically much more WCW, so I was thinking it
is about time I checked at least one out for myself, so I obviously started at
the beginning with the first one. 2. As it is getting close to Halloween itself
this second reason is pretty self-explanatory and 3. I wanted a quick
turnaround from my previous pay-per-view review of WWE/ECW One Night Stand
12/06/2005.
Briefly
things to know:
* Intro: Horror/Halloween theme; excellent artistic
visions
* Jim Ross & Bob
Caudle: Commentary welcoming us and talking about what they have on night.
* Gordon Solie: interviewer tells us what he has coming up
tonight [once again excellent horror backdrop here, it isn't real and for the
younger generations, you may find this to be cheesy at minimum, but I
appreciate it because it shows they were trying to get in the spirit of
Halloween and as it goes it achieves its objective by creating an atmosphere
and tone.]
* Jim Ross & Bob
Caudle: Commentary to talk about tonight's main event in the Thunderdome Match.
* Chris Cruise: Interviewer Cruise does the same as Solie,
but he also interviews them before they entered the ring as well and basically
copy and paste what I said in the Solie paragraph about the excellent horror
backdrop here as well. Finally he introduces the world's best ring announcer
Gary Michael Cappetta.
* "The World's Most Dangerous Announcer" Gary
Michael Cappetta: Ring announcer introduces our first match.
Warning: there is flashing
effects/colourful effects
Match/Stipulation: Captain Mike Rotunda vs. Z-Man;
Singles Match

Comments: this
is one of those opening matches/match slots which sets the tone hopefully for
the rest of this pay-per-view, there is one guy at some point shouting out
boring or a close something like that. We have one of those organic/natural
moments in wrestling, where a good percentage [clearly] the audience in
attendance decided to boo this match outcome, because the heel put in a
dominating performance, but because of smooth wrestling and no heel tactics he
got stuck. Now just to cover my back I can clearly hear some cheering as well,
but for those long-term wrestling fans out there,it is a perfect example of
heel heat on a noticeable scale if this individual was a heel or going to be a
heel, I don't think it was in the plan at all for this crowd to react somewhat
like this; but one thing is for certain they are a lively audience that can
make up their own minds.
Basic Result: I know I have pretty much indicated that result, but I still have to do the admin; Z-Man picks up the win
Briefly
things to know:
*
Replay of the closing stages with the winner's entrance music playing [at this specific point just to cover my back,] I am going to say I think so, based on these competitors started in the ring so no entrances, I have just realised there was no entrance music playing at the end of this match either. As I have just watched the second match with the same replaying thing but with their background music playing over this replay, I'm going to assume that this was Z-Man's entrance music playing over.
* Chris Cruise: Interviews Bruno Sammartino as he is the
Special Guest Referee for tonight's main event the Thunderdome Match.
* "The World's Most Dangerous Announcer" Gary
Michael Cappetta: Ring announcer introduces the next match; stipulation Six-Man Tag Team Match
Jim Cornett Manager: introduces his team on the mic of;
"The Toughest Man in the World" "Dr. Death" Steve Williams,
" The Greatest Combination in Wrestling" The Midnight Express;
"Beautiful" Bobby Eaton & "Sweet" Stan Lane.
* "The World's Most Dangerous Announcer" Gary
Michael Cappetta: Ring announcer introduces their manager Jim Cornett and then
moves on to their opponents with their manager "The Big Kahuna" Sir
Oliver Humperdinck The Samoan Squad Team; Fatu, Samu & The Samoan Savage.
Obviously I haven't seen this match/match slot yet, but if I had to have a
guess this upcoming section should be fun, technical wrestling mixed with a
hard-hitting and warning fire being used in the next match entrances
