Review Time
Warning:
there is flashing effects/medical/shooting/vomiting/human waste/torture.
Because of what is happening in Ukraine with the Russian conflict, this is
nothing against this film, but if you have ties or strong feelings or anything
like this about this situation, I really wouldn't recommend you watch this film
at this present time as you will find out in due course why I recommend this
and I will begin the next paragraph with it.
Cuban Missile Crisis: this film is about this; so in a
nutshell MI6[ Military Intelligence, Section 6] Emily Donovan [Rachel Brosnahan] comes up with the idea with also
working in MI6 Dickie Franks [Angus Wright] to send in a British businessman by
the name of Greville Wynne [Benedict Cumberbatch] to get Intel from Col Oleg
"Alex" Penkovsky [Merab Ninidze] on completing this, he wants a
defection from the U.S.S.R. [Union of Soviet Socialist Republics] for himself
and his family.
The pacing for
this 112 minute film is good, to begin with in the early stages of this title
there is this comical tone now and again [I know this is not a comedy,] because
Emily Donovan, Dickie Franks and Greville Wynne either don't tell him too much
just in case he is caught and he doesn't want to know to know anyway. You get
the feeling and on top of that you get this light background music sometimes as
to illustrate he is trying to winger it. So he is a businessman just doing what
he does best which is selling and setting up business deals.
For the vast majority of this film [you will know when
this does not apply] this is a very classy film by its scenery, clothing,
accessories and so on for an example we get to see and experience some of this
ballet [Swan Lake] this is excellent.
The character developments and performances are all
round good from this cast, but in particular Benedict Cumberbatch as Greville
Wynne and Merab Ninidze as Col Oleg "Alex" Penkovsky as they are
individually or together excellent; as they tried to without giving too much
away trying to do their best for one another and become unofficial friends,
meaning it is not said in the film, but maybe at a different time and a different
world they could have been official friends that dynamic, in fact this film has
1 nominee to its name; British Independent Film Awards 2021; British
Independent Film Award; Best Supporting Actor Merab Ninidze.
This film receives: 8/10, this film is excellent; just
to clarify I am talking about this film and nothing else, I decided to award
another mark based on the positives which I have mentioned in this review.
