When you think things couldn't get
any worse this motel owner:
Chloe [Alice Eve] has problems personally and professionally; all she needs is
a package deliverer [criminally speaking,] by the name of "Topo" Topolewski [Bryan Cranston]
which has visual impairment issues with these shades/glasses on with a horny
nephew; driver Quincy [Robin Lord Taylor] wanting rooms for a night and when
let's just say when Quincy's own business transaction goes south, things
quickly get worse for Chloe as she tries to keep her daughter Sophia [Ursula
Parker] out of harms way.
I don't have too much to say about
this film really; the pacing for this roughly 90 minute film, well it slowly
gets better and better the more you watch of it.
The only action sequence I can
briefly mention is when we have this car rocking backwards and forwards and
there is only one survivor that steps out of this vehicle, there is nothing
wrong with the rest of these action sequences they are what they are; they are
not poor, but they fulfil their purpose.
The character developments and
performances generally speaking; character developments are reliably good
versions of what they are meant to be and the performances are likewise. But
however Bryan Cranston and Alice Eve partnership is what makes this film; both
of these characters have been through a lot one is clearly coming to the end of
his shelf life as a Russian criminal [I and the person I watched this film with
believe it to be a Russian accent] and at one point we get to see from his
perspective and it is blurry and yellow [dark orange if someone looks at him,
but yellow comes from his perspective] and a mother which has been through a
lot since she was 15 years old; they discuss these two backgrounds in one scene
in this film as they strike a deal.
This film receives: 6/10, this film is good; as I have just made reference to yes this partnership makes this film, but without Bryan Cranston this film would fall to its knees; he does put in one of those performances where he takes his character and run with it, so if there are any Bryan Cranston fans out there in Internet land, this film will suit you down to the ground and finally this film has one Nominee to its name. Fantasporto 2014; International Fantasy Film Award; Best Film Tze Chun [on a quick side note, he was one of the Writers alongside Oz Perkins and Nick Simon; he was also the Director for this project.]
