Review Time

Warning: there are flashing effects/colourful effects/slavery/animal cruelty/disfigurement/self-harming/choking/stabbing

Storyline: it is good; Captain Sinbad/Law and his crew with a feud additions Vizier/Wilmer [a partner in this adventure and future King of Marabia; there is if this very powerful master of the dark mystical arts doesn't get his hands on it first Koura/Baker; he is in hot pursuit with his servant Achmed/Emmanuel;] Haroun/Christian [a son of Hakim/Aslan; his son is lazy, so he offers after everything is said and done 400 gold coins and this slave Margiana/Munro to take him with Sinbad on this adventure. The pacing from beginning to end; it knows what it is doing and get on with things.

Action/Art: these two components go hand-in-hand in this project; such as when we have Captain Sinbad/Law and other characters/performers taking on Kali [a Hindu goddess with many arms/hands; she is a very powerful protector [full disclosure yes I had to look this up, I have no idea about this;] but in short in this case she is brought to life by Koura/Baker; by saying "Mighty Kali. Mightier than thou am I. Make obeisance to me." and throwing [from a secret department in his sleeve, which this potion he can bring down into his hand without no one seeing] a yellow dark magic potion onto this carving of stone of her in this shrine inhabited by these indigenous green people; because this project uses stop motion animation everything still moves as well as they ever did back then and with the high-level of detail used on Kali to match.

Comedy/Characters/Performances: these three components go hand-in-hand as it relates to Haroun/Christian by his character type as in he gives off the impression he had too much to drink from the previous night and quite possibly his father or somebody had put him on the ship so when he wakes up they are far out to sea, so eventually on learning they may be years on this voyage/adventure we get these character developments of him slowly but surely growing into a crewman and Captain Sinbad/Law removes the slave station in life from Margiana/Munro; he brings her along because he has seen her marking on her hand in a dream before and for all the rest of the character developments and now likewise performances; they are all solid and likeable in particular Tom Baker as Koura; he gives this character this ominous presence and characteristics.

This film receives: 6/10, this film is good; it is a pleasant film which is built for family viewing [just to cover my back; not for young families] and it has won 3 Awards here is just 1 Award National Board of Review, USA 1974; Winner Special Citation; Outstanding Special Effects.
