Review Time
Warning:
there is flashing effects/colourful
effects/shooting/stabbing/cutting/decapitation/man on woman violence/run over
Storyline: it is generic; and on top of that when you think it
ends, which you know it isn't going to end based on the grounds there is still
plenty of time still on the clock; the pacing before this point just feels like
it is ambling along and after at this point; well they might as well have ended
the film here and now, because it still ambles along but noticeably slower.
Action/Comedy: there are some dialogue exchange is in hostile
situations, but for me to point something out; there is only one occasion where
I can say these two components go hand-in-hand and it is where Korda/Wincox
escapes and only if this security guard was paying attention instead of being
on the phone and his back to this situation. Action; the only scenes or
sequence worthwhile pointing out are; the bottle puzzle given to
McCall/Rapaport by Inspector/Hostage Negotiator Roper/Murphy; Rule, get this
bottle cap out of its bottle without breaking or destroying this bottle are and
this entire sequence involving a tram at some point; this entire sequence from
beginning to end is good fun. Comedy; it is in the dialogue exchange like Troy
being a joint responsibility between Inspector/Hostage Negotiator Roper/Murphy
and his ex-wife Veronica 'Ronnie' Tate/Ejogo [we only know this, because in her
apartment I spotted a ring on her finger when they are holding hand briefly;
just my back I could be completely wrong here, but on a positive it shows I pay
attention.]
Art: there are some good scenes of the Oakland Bridge by day
or by night [located in San Francisco: USA.]
Characters/Performances: likewise this is all generic be it the characters
[characters developments] and the performances so everything is designed to do
its job or for them to fulfil their job.
This film receives: 4/10, this film is mixed; I mean you might have gotten
the point by now that this film is generic, so based on this; this film has
been designed to follow this format and everything else associated with it. I
have only one thing left to say; this film has an Award Nomination to its name;
Acapulco Black Film Festival 1998; Black Film Award; Best Soundtrack.
