Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures [Season 1,] Episode 12: A Job, a Job, My Kingdom for a Job by AverageMansReviews

Review Time:

5 things about this episode

Warning: there are flashing effects/other effects

Storyline/Hologram/Telephone Booth tracker: these four components go hand-in-hand in this episode; storyline it is good and this futuristic hologram that Rufus has of The Wyld Stallyns performing this song/track is visually good art, but sadly from a sound standpoint it is broken [that is all I can say without giving too much away.]

Moving on to the Telephone Booth tracker; Dimas, California, USA, The Present to unknown [it didn't say on the screen] France - 1789 to Venice, Italy - 1510 to Northern Mexico - 1590 to unknown [again it didn't say on screen] Japan - 1650 to Dimas, California, USA, The Present.

Matsuo Bashō: this individual quickly and efficiently chops these two large/long candles into smaller candles with his sword and then lights them with it as well [he thinks at the time that Bill and Ted are a threat to him, but after they do their standard yet legendary introduction everything is cool;] this is good action.

This episode receives: 7/10, this episode is good; it does have little things around each corner to keep the viewer/viewers entertained throughout this episode.

Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/drugs/vomiting/medical procedures

Storyline: the storyline and the pacing they are both something safe and reliable.

Action/Art: there is this sequence [plane crash] where these two components go hand-in-hand; this is good.

Action individually; there is a weapon being used

Art individually; there are these skies with these crowds; these elements are also good.

Comedy/Characters/Performances: including the on-screen chemistry all four of these components go hand-in-hand in this project [the comedy elements are not a consistent, but when they are used then it goes hand-in-hand] and the comedy ranges between adult to dark.

But for the other four components; they are what they are; they do their job, the on-screen chemistry between everyone involved feels normal as it relates to their connections to one another depending on their characters relationships. Whitaker/Washington and Mays/Goodman have an interesting relationship, let's just say "Who you gonna call?" Mays instead of The Ghostbusters and yes when you meet this character/performer he doesn't care what people think and he takes this to be an everyday occurrence so it is normal to him [this will make much more better sense after you have watched this film.]

This film receives: 5/10, this film is mixed; on reflection I think this mark is better suited for this title then my original mark I had in mind; this project doesn't do anything wrong it just has a story to tell and it tells it. But in fairness and balance I should just point out this project did excellently in the Awards [15 Winners and 45 Nominations including 2 Oscar Nominations.]

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WCW/NWA Capital Combat: The Return of Robocop 19/05/1990: Match 8/Part 8/Conclusion by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Match/Stipulations: the US Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger vs. the World Heavyweight Champion "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair [with Woman;] for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Steel Cage Match.

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 10/10

Match Storyline: 8/10

Crowd Participation: 10/10

On Commentary: Jim Ross & Bob Caudle 10/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 10/10

Recommend Watch: 10/10

Match Total: 58/60 - this match is lots of fun.

Comments: as I have just said this match is lots of fun including the aftermath, but I did get lost on the end of this match.

So how come in the Doom vs. The Steiner Brothers Tag Team Championship Match Scott Steiner pushing the Referee over is not a reason to disqualify him and his team and throw out this match.

But Barry Windham [a member of The Four Horseman] attacking Luger with the stipulation of a Steel Cage Match is? Even without the excellent example of Scott Steiner pushing over the Referee I would still be questioning this Steel Cage Match booking decision, because I have been doing some research I found ["The Fiend" Bray Wyatt vs. the Universal Champion Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship at Hell in a Cell 2019, before I receive feedback I know this wasn't a Disqualification it was a Stoppage, but it basically does the same thing in a storyline sense.] But we all remember how well this result was universally received [yes I had forgotten about this match in 2019] but still to be overwhelmingly negative and on a much smaller scale that is what they have done in this Cage Match on this Pay-Per-View in the 1990's, I mean in the 1990's or in 2019 why didn't they just put a 20 minute time limit and have for them to wrestle to a draw problem solved.

Basic Results: Lex Luger picks up the W. here

This Pay-Per-View receives: 7/10, this Pay-Per-View; generally speaking is good, without giving too much away in this version the wrestling, Commentary and the Pay-Per-View storylines of Robocop, Sting, Lex Luger [his health plays a role in this Main Event] and The Four Horseman are clearly the consistent positives of this Event and not forgetting the Crowd Participation for most parts of this Pay-Per-View, but the scripted/constructed conclusions of these matches are in hindsight in some cases poor, just to clarify I'm not talking about the results of these matches, I'm talking about what happens to get us there.

The highest ranking match on this Card based on attributes that we see would be: the US Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger vs. the World Heavyweight Champion "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair [with Woman;] for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Steel Cage Match with 58/60.

The lowest ranking match on this Card based on attributes that we see would be: "Precious" Paul Ellering vs. Theodore "Sugar Ray" R. Long: Manager vs. Manager/Hair vs. Hair Match with 13/60

Match/Stipulations: Doom [Ron Simmon & "Hacksaw" Butch Reed with Theodore R. Long] vs. the World Tag Team Champions The Steiner Brothers [Rick Steiner "Dog Face" & Scott Steiner - Real Life Brothers.]

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 5/10

Match Storyline: 5/10

Crowd Participation: 8/10

On Commentary: Jim Ross & Bob Caudle 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 5/10

Recommend Watch: 5/10

Match Total: 35/60 - this match is mixed; yes this match just needed one more mark to be put in the good section of my marking system.

Comments: but as you can see this match had a lot of help from the Crowd Participation and On Commentary, I have gone with Rick Steiner "Dog Face" because Commentary mentioned it a small amount of times; I knew of "The Dog Face Gremlin" but not of this name. Now right at the beginning of this match it should have been thrown out and the W. given to Doom [yes I know the Championships cannot change hands this way in a standard Championships Match.]

But based on the fact Scott Steiner pushes the Referee and it isn't a small push neither [he gets pushed over] and yes just in case if you're wondering I have made sure that the bell it definitely does ring before this incident; so it should have definitely been a disqualification, Scott Steiner clearly had the intention of pushing the Referee; he doesn't look at him; he is looking at Simmons, so either if it was scripted or discussed Kayfabe or not or a botch or not it just really set the tone for this match really.

In short we have one Face in Rick Steiner and one neutral in the Referee and four Heels in this match, because Scott Steiner attacks Doom twice once each when their outside of the ring during this match and the Referee's back is turned, so what is the dynamic here precisely? I am talking in a Kayfabe sense and on top of that we get to see Theodore R. Long's new haircut and it very much looks like it has been left the way it was after his match earlier on this Pay-Per-View, basically what was the point of this match if you're not going to take the key stipulation of Hair vs. Hair remotely seriously?

Basic Result: Doom [Ron Simmon & "Hacksaw" Butch Reed with Theodore R. Long] are the New World Tag Team Champions

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WCW/NWA Capital Combat: The Return of Robocop 19/05/1990: Match 6/Part 6 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Match/Stipulations: The Rock 'n' Roll Express [Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson] vs. The Freebirds [Jimmy " Jimmy "Jam" Garvin & Michael P.S Hayes:] Corporal Punishment Tag Team Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 8/10

Match Storyline: 7/10

Crowd Participation: 9/10

On Commentary: Jim Ross & Bob Caudle 8/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 8/10

Recommend Watch: 8/10

Match Total: 48/60 - this match is excellent

Comments: like I have just said this match is excellent, but I will now discuss the problems; these are wrestling mechanics/match design issues; when the Referee's back is turned; we have the Faces [The Rock 'n' Roll Express] doing unofficial tags behind the Referee's back, they don't even clap their hands to simulate the sound of a tag; yes we have the Referee doing this whole investigation thing about the tag or lack of a tag thing [The Rock 'n' Roll Express member Robert Gibson] got the crowd to back them up when a tag was meant to have happened.

Now to make sure I am not overly clutching at straws here I could overlook these things on the grounds just may be the teams don't like one another and they just want to hurt one another; because I stand by this match being excellent. But for the ending sequence of events; we have the Referee in close proximity looking at what is happening, so he counts the one ... two... three, but here's the problem the individual performing the pin is not the legal man [there was no tag - yes I am that kind of sad individual that replays and replays and replays it to make sure.] It was the wrong time to be looking in this direction, so basically I don't care what he was doing, he just needed not to be looking this way, even though I cannot be guaranteed he can see what is happening but just to make sure just have him look somewhere else for a split second so he can have plausible deniability.

Basic Result: The Rock 'n' Roll Express [Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson]

Match Total: 46/60 - this match is excellent; well it is almost excellent

Comments: now I should just clarify what I mean by "Well it is almost excellent"; for a large section of this match; it is really strange because at the beginning they are into it and then it's like a light switch has been turned off to the point where you could hear individual people and yes eventually they warmed up and got into it again but as you can tell from my marking of this match this was an excellent match But to put it into the excellent section I decided to put another mark on to the Recommend Watch category, that is how excellent this match is; if you like tag team wrestling this match will suit you down to the ground.

I do understand that crowds do get burned out or exhausted, but then again there is always something happening in this match; so how you cannot be into this match from bell to bell is beyond me.

Basic Result: The Midnight Express [Beautiful Bobby Eaton & Sweet Stan Lane, with Jim Cornett] are the new United States Tag Team Championships

Review Time

Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/suicide/being squashed/vomiting/disfigurement/drinking of human waste/shot in the head/stabbing in the neck/decapitations/from now on if I forget or missed out any small detail I am not going to worry about it in any of my blogs/content, obviously I will be concentrating and researching when it is necessary. But I just want to get away from being so concentrated or concerned about if I miss out or if I don't mention every small detail basically being so focused that I can fry an egg with my level of focus or concentration or concern here.

Storyline: it is something solid; but however the pacing is so, so, so, so incredibly slow. Wow I was going to say that "This film should have been 85 minutes long and no more." Because I was under the impression that this film was much longer than what it is, but that argument doesn't hold water because based on doing some research this film is only roughly 93 minutes long [full disclosure I did watch this film via TV, I used a little button called fast-forward to get through advertisements/commercials which I always do I hate advertisements/commercials.]

Action/Art: there are some occasions where these two components go hand-in-hand in a basic description the viewers have these first-person shooter perspectives and this character/performer [Ahmadi/Gallini] arms get pulled like a Christmas cracker.

Action individually; we have weapons being used, combat and this highly sophisticated lie detector chair.

Art individually; we also have some landscapes from the camera shot of roughly birds-eye perspective and individually skies with clouds in this project as well.

Characters/Performances: including the on-screen chemistry they fulfil their purpose and do the job they are designed to do.

This film receives: 2/10, this film is poor; now don't get me wrong this film would be in the mixed section of my marking system, because it either has some good things to offer or it has the components that you expect from this type of film, but the pacing really does so much damage to this project that I was so bored that this mark is a fair outcome and on a quick side note if there are any fans of Wesley Snipes as Isaac and/or WWE's Seth Rollins as Brett take a look at this film; but I wouldn't really expect too much, may be if one night you are having trouble sleeping put this on and your problem will be solved.

Warning: there is kidnapping/domestic abuse - mental & physical/sexual assault/animal cruelty/human & animal waste/drugs/repeat stabbing/you are going to need a strong stomach for this title.

Storyline: I really don't like this film, but however from a balanced perspective if it was designed to be a cautionary tale; it achieves its goal and on top of that this film does get left on a question-mark, but then again if this film has been designed to be a situation based film [meaning everything before and after this situation it doesn't matter, we are here to experience this situation and nothing else;] it achieves this as well and the pacing is something that knows what it is doing from beginning to end and sticks to it.

Action/Art: there are weapons being used and combat; moving on to the art there are some good looking scenes in this project [yes I am clutching at straws here;] meaning these very tiny elements are the only thing I can pick that are positive about this film.

Characters/Performances: including the on-screen chemistry they are what they are; they are designed to fulfil their purpose.

This film receives: 1/10, this film is poor; now I have a lot to say here in one way or another somehow this project has either Won 18 Awards or Nominated for 27 Awards to its name; look I get it if it is about a cautionary tale, but I have a very low tolerance for what this film has in it.

So I will try and leave this review on a very little comical note; by saying "that will teach me for picking a random film without reading the description." Yes I basically found it on TV and watched it.

Crowd Participation: 2/10

On Commentary: Jim Ross & Bob Caudle 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 1/10

Recommend Watch: 1/10

Match Total: 13/60 - this match is poor; this match is what it is; if or when you come to watch this match you will understand this.

Comments: at least this match is basically like Randy Orton's last WWE Championship reign [this is for the future; when he won it at WWE Hell In A Cell Sunday 25/10/2020 just to lose it/drop it back to Drew MacIntyre on RAW on Monday 16/11/2020] it being short and pointless.

But back on to this match the audience and we the viewers don't get to see much of this haircut, using today's language this was a very much throw away match. I mean don't get me wrong I wasn't going in expecting too much from this match; you just go in with the idea of "May be it won't be that bad." Which as I have already referenced in my previous paragraph this match was short and pointless roughly around two minutes long, no really two minutes long, in transparency I knew this already just looking on the list of matches and basic information; I just do this so I don't miss a match out, because knowing me being clumsy; if I don't check I will miss a match out, but I can reassure you we will see Theodore R. Long again before this Pay-Per-View is done [but he is wearing a bandanna; I looked forward into this Pay-Per-View, just so I could say "I can reassure you we will see Theodore R. Long again before this Pay-Per-View is done."
