Recommendation of: NXT Deadline 2023 by AverageMansReviews

Recommendation of: NXT Deadline 2023 by AverageMansReviews

Warning/Disclaimer: flashing effects/colourful effects/medical/blood warning/burning. Disclaimer I have never been or are likely to be a professional wrestler and at one point this has nothing to do with tribalism between WWE/NXT vs. AEW

Dragon Lee [with LWO's Rey  Mysterio] vs. The Judgement Day's Dominik  Mysterio; Singles Match for the NXT North American Championship: well this match was not the most cleanest match I have ever seen, it is a good thing that Dominik tried either to cover it up with trying to keep it together as in the move; the move in question is an hurricanrana leg release [similar to when Rey sets up for the 619 that kind of leg release but different] to put Dominik into the far bottom right corner; at minimum experienced wrestling fans can clearly see at some point the transaction phase isn't going well, then later on Lee tries to perform this first power bomb; sloppy as hell, where it doesn't go according to plan so quickly adopts the idea that " If we like instantaneously just continue hopefully no one saw that." It is show that Dominik is showing years of experience for someone that is in his 20's [as of this content being created; 26 years old] and then the ending of this match very much comes out of nowhere and on top of that on commentary we have Booker T and Rey generally speaking during this whole heel and babyface shtick which I expected obviously, but mixing this with everything else, so usually I wouldn't give this away but then it explains my marking somewhat; it really does help things when you have four legends on show at one point or another throughout the opening section of this Premium Live Even. This match/match slot receives: 8/10.

Tiffany Stratton vs. The Meta-Four's Lash Legend vs. Blair Davenport vs. Kelani Jordan vs. Fallon Henley; Women's Iron Survivor Challenge to determine the #1 Contender for the NXT Women's Championship: this match/match slot is/was good, I just wasn't overly feeling in; meaning it felt formulaic, but including everything else. This match/match slot receives: 8/10.

Carmelo Hayes vs. Lexis King; Singles Match: I have made it no secret I am absolutely hating with a passion this Lexis King gimmick, once again at minimum for experienced wrestling fans, allow me to be a little bit more specific; I am talking about go away heat; If NXT are not careful things could go badly for Lexis King 2023 Link https://averagemansreviews2017.blogspot.com/2023/10/if-nxt-are-not-careful-things-could-go.html . I mean where did King's body shape go? I mean you don't have to look too closely he has a gut on him at least in AEW he was in much better shape, if King is absolutely serious about getting out from his father's shadow Brian Pillman Sr. Then it would really help if he stopped getting mentioned as Booker T namedrops him. King couldn't even land his third backbreaker in this match correctly as it looks incredibly sloppy and Vic Joseph says something to the effect of he didn't catch all that all you know as I have already said something in that arena. Don't get me wrong I know wrestlers specifically from turned to turn they can change their wrestling move set, but there should be out or no reason for his drop in wrestling skills/talents, because if I was an NXT audience member, I would be absolutely furious, because yes absolutely AEW/Tony Kahn/TK dropped the ball with him, amongst so many other talents [an ongoing problem it has to be said;] but I digress ever so slightly I know from rarely seen him on AEW TV programming he can smash it out of the park like his father used to, he is literally unrecognisable and phoning it in, could someone backstage of appropriate position please grab hold of him and shake him up, tell him to get his head back in the game, he should be confidently and competently be killing it in NXT regardless of gimmick [okay maybe not the best gimmick for him since joining the WWE/NXT; but still] babyface or heel, I know of what he is capable of and originally I was so disappointed that AEW lost a gem in the rough, but not anymore.

Dijak vs. Trick Williams vs. Josh Briggs vs. Bron Breakker vs. Tyler Bate; Men's Iron Survivor Challenge to determine the #1 Contender for the NXT Championship: Joseph was a little bit glitchy on commentary, but acknowledged it; it was very much like Jim Ross when he began his career trying to keep up with the action, being enthusiastic about it if you are old enough then you know what I am talking about. But all you need to know about this match is this; it is a hard-hitting chaotic match. This match/match slot receives: 10/10.

Roxanne Perez vs. Kiana James; Cage Match: Joseph messes up an expression quickly corrects himself, Perez takes a bed slept as James begins to climb up the cage Perez dashes onto the ring ropes and instead of going up she must have lost their footing, but she takes James down as well finish with loans on the outside of the ring sandwiched between the cage; it also gets paraphrasing/nutshell referenced on commentary as a mishap. Joseph makes another blooper where he mixes up the names on which of these two competitors which are taking this punishment; so he says it is James, but in fact it is  Perez once again he corrects himself. The crowd were still here for this match slot, but after what they had just seen in the previous one, and what is coming in the main event it is/was understandable that they were somewhat quiet for this match/match slot; but with the including element this match/match slot receives: 8/10.

Baron Corbin vs. Champ Ilja Dragunov; Singles Match for the NXT Championship: as you can to expect with a Dragunov match he brings his very hard hitting style and gives you absolutely everything, but he does struggle to deliver a power bomb on the second attempt, but as everyone should know when it comes to watch one of his matches, he burns so much energy by the look of things, but he gets it on the third attempt; likewise because of the surrounding element. This match/match slot receives: 9/10.

The average mark of this pay-per-view is: 8/10, generally speaking when or if you come to see this event, you can see why they have been given the marks they have, but as this is NXT, I don't come to expect anything less than an average of 8 or more out of 10.
