Police Academy or County Lock up?: In summary; these are the two choices which lay before Carey Mahoney/Cadet Carey Mahoney/Officer Carey Mahoney [Steve Guttenberg:] he can't stop getting into minor trouble on a consistent basis; he agrees to go to the Metropolitan Police Academy which is also connected to the Police Station for this district [this is not the only Police Academy/Polices Station for this district but that is for a later film title;]but I digress; under one condition that he can take someone with him. Monsignor Larvell Jones/Doctor Monsignor Larvell Jones MD./Cadet Monsignor Larvell Jones/Officer Monsignor Larvell Jones [Michael Winslow:] he and Mahoney and just recently met in this police station and likewise he has been brought in for causing mischief, but in his case he has a very unique talent/skill you can make a sound effects with his voice which he gladly shows Mahoney after Mahoney asks what are you in for? So Jones shows him by making very realistic gun shooting effects and consequently terrifies everyone.

Generally speaking: the framework and pacing of this 96 minutes film; it has been neatly and tidily put together; as this film follows a very simple yet effective origin storyline approach and within that; we have the old school approach of skit or sketch scene set-up and varieties. But I have to be slightly selective on the ones I can discuss and so that I can namedrop some more characters in the/performers names Moses Hightower/Cadet Moses Hightower/Officer Moses Hightower [Bubba Smith:] as his name would suggest he is incredibly tall and strong so as it relates to another comedy/action example where it comes to the climbing wall in this obstacle course instead of climbing it, he just casually pushes it over and walks on over it as Lieutenant Thaddeus Harris [G. W. Bailey:] is startled by the obstacle wall falling down just in front of him and what he has just seen. In a nutshell he is a instructor of Squad-D in his words it stands for "Dirtbags" and finally he is the foiler to the success of basically getting average people to be police officers and alongside him is Sergeant Debbie Callahan [Leslie Easterbrook:] like I have just said she is also an instructor, she is a stern individual that is highly trained and putting this really nicely she has a well-developed figure.

Security Guard Eugene Tackleberry/Cadet Eugene Tackleberry/Officer Eugene Tackleberry [David Graf:] he is a very militarised individual by the way of his appearance; he turns up to the Police Academy in one of those militarise Jeeps including combat clothing [ design,] the way he talks and not forgetting his little [when I say little I mean big obsession] of guns and the weaponry anything military to be honest. I will take you through his second gun sequence basic description; you have this gun and you have someone following you to keep score of what targets you hit correctly like a pop-up criminal or wrongly a pop-up innocent individual and you have to shoot the right ones when they pop-up. But of what the viewers see and hear Cadet Tackleberry completely goes Rambo by going off the course and behind these prop shooting it then putting it through and shooting some more and not forgetting to do the classic action hero thing of jumping/tumbling over this car bonnet and continuing to act like a action hero madman.

Character developments and performances; they are faultless character types of what they are meant to be, including fluent and likewise faultless performances of those character types; this is very much a cast performance; which regardless of who comes in and out of this franchise; they all seem to just gel. Without getting too political there is an element of sadness to this film and it isn't this film's fault or this entire franchise. This film was made in 1984 and when this content was first created it is now the back end of 2023. The element of sadness is the fact; whomever and I mean this by character or performer as long as you are a good person; these bunch of misfits will accept you regardless of; Caucasian, African American, very tall, very short or very large chest or a militarise gun happy individual or any other characteristics we have coming in this sequels. Yet in reality you say anything slightly wrong or it doesn't match up with the general consensus or this person isn't good-looking or someone that is different for an example in a wheelchair is generally speaking of voided like the plague. But back onto something a little bit more positive; for those that have seen this franchise front to back I should just point out I can't mention them at the moment, because they have not been brought into the franchise.

This film receives: 10/10, this film is top-notch entertainment; yes full disclosure on reflection I have decided to award the full marks based on; it fulfils the origin outline, it is entertaining and it is most definitely one of those films that you have to see once in your lifetime and it does have an extra sequence throughout the closing credits. This film has some awards accredited to its name; 1 Winner Golden Screen, Germany 1985 Golden Screen and 1 Nominee Jupiter Award 1985 Best International Film Hugh Wilson
