From Norwich, England to Orlando,
USA: in a nutshell; this is the rise of
Saraya Knight/Paige [Younger: Saraya Knight Tori Ross/Tori Ellen Ross/Older:
Florence Pugh/the real life Saraya Knight Bevis "Paige" appears in
home videos in the first stages of the ending credits:] she begins wrestling
for her family's wrestling promotion WAW [World Association of Wrestling,] one
night she and her brother Zak "Zodiac Knight" Bevis [Jack Lowden:] he
also wrestles for the family's promotion WAW, he really wants to wrestle for
the WWE that is his number one dream and he is also expecting a baby. They get
a phone call from the WWE Hutch Morgan [Vince Vaughn:] he is an ex-wrestler and
a WWE trainer, that offers them a UK try out when the WWE come to the UK, where
I am positive they meet The Rock/Dwayne Johnson/Dwayne "The Rock"Johnson [Dwayne Johnson:] where he gave
them some advice. Great news for Saraya has qualified for the next stage of
tryouts in Orlando, but Zak isn't so fortunate.
Generally speaking: the framework and pacing of this 108 minutes film is
like the rest of this film really, it is solidly good and it has a story to
tell and get on with it. The character developments and performances are all
generally speaking good, but our lead role of Florence Pugh has to be given
high praise, because as Saraya/Paige she really does put across how difficult
it was for her to settle in to the US and the WWE way of doing things,
alongside her we have Hutch Morgan putting these and Saraya through their paces
physically, mentally and emotionally and finally we have friction between Zak,
so between this trio there is a lot of excellent stuff.
Comedy; for an example this is where we meet/bump into Big Show talking about the
negatives of hotdogs with Sheamus with what I can describe as him not caring,
he is going to eat them, with Saraya/Paige giving it is; like your work and is
hotdogs for everyone thing with this debate continuing
Action/Art;
now without giving too much away there is as final wrestling match and to be
brutally honest the whole order of it looks incredibly ugly; it is an eyesore.
This film receives: 6/10, this film is good; now usually I would have given this film an extra mark for this trio of performances in particular Pugh, now after seeing this film I would consider this to be our breakout performance in her career. But I digress I would have given another mark but for this wrestling sequence it just looks so ugly, cheap and amateurish that even Matt Murdock/Daredevil couldn't overlook it and he is blind, before I move on the awards I should point out in a quick side note there are more wrestlers in this film in some capacity. This film has awards accredited to it 10 Winners that includes London Critics Circle Film Awards 2020 AFLS Award British/Irish Actress of the Year Florence Pugh Shared with: Midsommar · Little Women, for another example Alliance of Women Film Journalists 2020 EDA Female Focus Award Best Breakthrough Performance Florence Pugh Shared with: Midsommar · Little Women and finally Hawaii Film Critics Society 2020 HFCS Award Best First Film Stephen Merchant [Writer/Director/Hugh; Courtney's father Corney/Hannah Rae is pregnant with Zak's baby 5 Nominees that includes Columbus Film Critics Association 2020 COFCA Award Actor of the Year (for an exemplary body of work Florence Pugh 2nd place Shared with: Little Women · Midsommar and People's Choice Awards, USA 2019 People's Choice Award Favourite Comedy Movie Star Dwayne Johnson
