Thunder in Paradise 1993 by AverageMansReviews

Thunder in Paradise 1993 by AverageMansReviews

Review Time

Warning: there are flashing effects/colourful effects/shooting/chopping/cutting/strangling/choking/animal cruelty/disfigurement/electrocution

It is what it is: we meet two Ex-United States of America Navy Seals "R.J." Randolph J. "Hurricane" Spencer [Terry "Hulk" Hogan] and Martin "Bru" Brubaker [Chris Lemmon] a highly educated mechanic that works on Thunder and additional weapon systems and things of this nature. Thunder [voiced by Russ Wheeler] is a highly technical boat, it has a Dr. Who's TARDIS thing going on where it is much bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside [on a very quick side note TARDIS stands for "Time And Relative Dimension In Space"] basically what we have here is a mixture between a pinch of Dr. Who, Knight Rider [1982-1986] and Baywatch [1989-2001] as this TV show is from the creator of Baywatch Doug Schwartz Story/Director and Michael Berk Screenplay. Full disclosure I didn't know all of this, but even before I did some research "I did say to myself this does look and feel like Baywatch." But I digress on the latest mission which in short they are successful, there is the marriage which is founded on purely business, Spencer and Brubaker rescue Spencer's new daughter Megan Whitaker-Spencer [Felicity Waterman] and their friend Kelly LaRew [Carol Alt] with Megan's mother and Spencer's new wife involved as well Jessica Whitaker [Robin Weisman] but she is completely out of her depth in this rescue attempt. We also have a legendary on-screen wrestling personality in Jimmy Hart/a.k.a. "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart as Jammin' Jimmy and others as you will see.

The pacing of this 144 minutes film is straightforward, don't get me wrong it is solid but combining that with the script it does feel and presentation of a three and a half point script of; beginning mission and the half point being a little bit of an origin/back story thing being referenced, then moving on to the marriage and finally the rescue mission [and yes I know the beginning mission is also a rescue mission, but I just needed to distinguish one from the other.]

The comedy is harmless but cheesy such as when Spencer lying in wait to takes out these Cuban soldiers using this long would of some description building material and we have Brutus [Brutus " The Barber" Beefcake] crying at Spencer's wedding with Jimmy handing him some tissue as well and like I said earlier we have some comedy elements of Jessica being a lady of high standards being out of the depths on this rescue mission as an example she doesn't want to get her shoes dirty so Spencer just picked up and over and the shoulder.

Art: there are a few scenery moments, but Spencer or Spencer, Brubaker and Jessica escaping from the situation by swimming underwater; these sequences look good.

For the action; Brutus vs. Norman Kowalski [Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart] or/and Kowalski vs. Spencer arm wrestling and then Spencer vs. Terremoto [Giant Gonzalez] note once but twice in combat and I did pick up one in the second action sequence Terremoto kicks Spencer in the face lying down and is it me or is the kick and the kick sound effects out of sync here? If you are from the 70's to I would say comfortably the late 1990's you would have some experience of the sound effect I am making reference to, it is where the example you have this combat sequence between two people and if it is done correctly both participants should be able to either punch past one another or another physical action and the sound effects people can put in the sound effects as if these people are hitting one another or the more I'm thinking about it I think Spencer punches Terremoto in one of these two sequences and it is off time, I can't remember but my memory is telling me there was something previous as well, but I was just trying to be fair and balanced as well.

The character performance and the performances; they are safe and reliable character developments mixed with likewise safe and reliable execution of those character developments with Carol Alt doing a terrible New York accent, yes she comes from New York, but however be for dictating this I did some research based on up-to-date video footage or more up-to-date, she speaks much more softly and without the accent so this is speculation/opinion on my part that she was asked to put on a really strong New York accent you know the kind of one that knows bits and pieces which fits in with her bar keeper position, so I get what they were going for. But less emphasis on the New York accent would have been a better way to go.

This film receives: 4/10, this film is mixed; this is one of those films where I could have given something slightly bit higher, because the more you watch of it the slightly better it gets. But on the whole this mark is the right outcome, for those people that are either my range or older. Yes on some more research but on a different aspect this TV film came out first, followed by the TV program of obviously the same name 1 Season; 22 Episodes in 1994 [cancellation, because Hogan wanted to return to wrestling for the WCW whilst I was finding this out that the ratings may have been another reason to why it got cancelled] but I digress simultaneously or followed by it is unsure which wording is suitable here, so it is a case of either one or the other to cover my back that Thunder in Paradise II 1994 followed by either or simultaneously Thunder in Paradise III 1995 and yes a video game by the name of Thunder in Paradise Interactive CD-i which I watched some people's content on it, where Carol Alt uses her normal voice which is much nicer and finally there was going to be a Super Nintendo version of this game, but it got cancelled due to the TV program getting cancelled including the ratings so basically they couldn't justify it the financial risk.

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WWE Evolution 28/10/2018 Match 4 Part 4 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Warning/Disclaimer: there is flashing effects/colourful effects. Disclaimer I have never been or are likely to be a professional wrestler.

Match/Stipulation:

Match Attributes: The Riot Squad: Liv Morgan, Sarah Logan & Ruby Riot vs."Boss" Sasha Banks, Natalya & Bayley; Six-Woman Tag Team Match

Match Quality: 7/10

Match Slot Storyline: 7/10

Crowd Participation: 6/10

On Commentary: Beth Phoenix, Michael Cole & Renee Young 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 41/60 - this match is good.

Comments: as another solidly good match slot is what we have here. Sarah Logan touches Morgan after the bell has sounded so technically this would be a tag, but because it happens to so early on as in everyone is getting ready to begin the match the referee let it go [Referee: Shawn Bennett] and whilst I am on the subject when I was working up the referee for this event, I found an interesting name listed; one Audrey Edwards [yes the AEW world-class referee,] she made her debut at the 2018 Mae Young Classic Tournament and this pay-per-view and then in 2019 she signed a full-time contract with AEW.

There is one botch in this match even the commentary team had to talk about it; because it is one of those occasions where it hasn't and the best way to quickly move on from it is to acknowledge it just to keep up with the action. It is where Banks runs off the ropes and then jump over the ring ropes and to take out The Riot Squad, but this does not go according to plan as she goes over the ring ropes and goes to flip over onto her back, going through the air and taking out The Riot Squad, but instead of flipping over she goes straight down onto the ring apron [even though in this sequence Cole he puts over she got caught up in the ropes.] Banks does take a bump, but luckily enough The Riot Squad catch her and quickly improv quickly turn around in this position and smash your head against the safety barricade. The crowd are still here for this match, but I'm going to cut them some slack here, because they were just giving off the impression yeah we here, but we are a little bit burned out.

Basic Result: "Boss" Sasha Banks, Natalya & Bayley pick up the W.

 Basic walk-through of this event:

* Beth Phoenix, Michael Cole & Renee Young: Commentary watching replays of part of this match

* Another video package about what this momentous occasion means to the women of the WWE.

* Michael Cole & Renee Young: Commentary Michael Cole talks about the privilege of being here and Young puts over the men and Beth Phoenix is there technology what is being said.

* Michael Cole: Commentary begins talking about the next match and sends us to a video package of how we got to be here with Shayna Baszler vs. the NXT Women's Champion Kairi Sane.

* Entrances

* Kayla Braxton: Ring Announcer announces the stipulations; Singles Match for the NXT Women's Championship, it is competitors challenger vs. Champion [in the ring Referee: Jessica Carr.]

Recommendation of: WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022 by AverageMansReviews

Recommendation of: WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022 by AverageMansReviews

Warning: there is flashing/colourful effects throughout/blood warning.

The WWE Raw Women's Champion Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Mia Yim & Becky Lynch vs. Damage CTRL: Bayley, the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Dakota Kai & IYO SKY, Nikki Cross & The Judgement Day's Rhea Ripley; War Games: this is just a rough outline; there are some great camera angles and shots, which is a good thing but you run the risk of hearing the wrestlers communicate to one another, like I have no idea what was said between Kai and Belair and they are either missteps like Asuka falling down or a botch by Belair on Bayley with a power bomb. But after everything is said and done this mark I will be awarding is a fair outcome. This match/match slot receives: 8/10.

The O.C's AJ Styles [with The Good Brothers: Luke Gallows & the NJPW NEVER Openweight Champion Karl Anderson vs. The Judgement Day's Finn Bálor [with Damian Priest & Dominik Mysterio;] Singles Match: I thought this match should have never been on this card, based on the grounds it is the only one that really feels out of place on this card, considering it looks like Triple H has gone back to the old-fashioned Survivor Series card outlay. Where less matches but more time for those matches in most cases minus one on this card consequently I almost fell asleep through this match and yes I did re-watch it and yes I know it should have been a good match but I just couldn't get into it, as I said in my predictions I am paraphrasing here why didn't they just have a Six-Man Elimination Tag Team Match, back to here and now; that would have fitted in perfectly. The crowd were also flat which isn't too surprising based on what they had just seen and finally in one way or another New Japan Pro-Wrestling gets referenced, I was going to give this match/match slot a positive mark but on reflection considering it almost put me to sleep I went with something less and Bálor looks like Cobra Commander [ yes that in the 1980s cartoon reference from G.I. Joe] in he is new entrants entire. This match/match slot receives: 5/10.

Shotzi vs. Champ Ronda Rousey [with Shayna Baszler;] Singles Match for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship: what do you want me to say about this; it does what it is designed to do and originally I was going to give it a positive mark, but on reflection again it has irritated me a little. Like I have already said it is designed to do, what it was designed to do. But for those people that have seen this match can you honestly tell me that there were any positives? Did Shotzi look better for having this match? No for three reasons; she botched a move on the side of the ring, ring apron area her DDT [Additional;Wednesday 30/11/2022; it has been reported that it was on Rousey to why this spot didn't go according to plan as she didn't sell it, I am not backtracking on anything I have said here either going backwards or forwards, but in the interest of fairness and balance instead of laying it at just Shotzi's feet I will lay it at both of their feet. Additional: Wednesday 07/12/2022; I watched the video clip where Rousey takes responsibility for this botch has  she pitched the idea, because she likes the move. But they didn't have time or anywhere suitable to practice it be for the event. So I can't begin one thinking; just don't do it then and she was trying to protect Shotzi.] This match was the shortest match on the card with roughly over 7 minutes [the next shortest would be the next match on this card with just under 15 minutes] and finally even though I haven't been watching this feud I can tell you from my years of experience, there is no point continuing it, with how this match outlay was. I mean combining the little bit attacking from Shotzi and everything else, regardless of what they have in the future in this feud I know what angle it looks like they are trying to go with for her and it is massive underdog, but that only really works when Rousey with or without Baszler doesn't dissect her opponents with ease and comfort, so in essence what I am suggesting is; it already looks like the longer this feud goes on for Shotzi she runs the risk of looking incredibly weak. This match/match slot receives: 5/10

Bobby Lashley vs. Austin Theory vs. Champ Seth Rollins; Triple Threat Match for the WWE United States Championship: this match/match slot lives up to its expectations, this is where the blood warning comes into play, I am not sure when it occurred, just because there are many hard-hitting spots, it could have been when Lashley used Theory on his shoulders and basically use him to take out Rollins where Lashley took some of the hit as well or Lashley hitting the steps thanks to Rollins or Theory hitting Lashley with the steps or something completely different, so again on reflection I am going to award this match/match slot an extra mark. This match/match slot receives: 9/10

The Brawling Brutes: Sheamus, Ridge Holland & Butch, Drew McIntyre & Kevin Owens vs. The Bloodline: the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns [with Paul Heyman,] Solo Sikoa, Sami Zayn & the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos [Jey & Jimmy Uso;] War Games: like the previous match/match slot this is likewise it lives up to its expectations and it delivers and not only that the storyline narrative throughout this Premium Live Event continued from Friday's SmackDown 25/11/2022, we have another camera blooper; McIntire is caught communicating to I am going to say Jimmy, because I can't see his face, but I know he has longer hair then Jey so this is another Premium Live Event that yet again finishes with, this match/match slot: 10/10.

The average mark of this pay-per-view is: 8/10, as you can clearly see strong beginning, lacking in the middle, strong later and to the end and finally it is always a treat to see this rock/metal icon in any capacity.

Match Total: 44/60 - this match is good.

Comments: as I have already said this match is good; the only problem with this match is it only goes on for just over 10 minutes. I know it is only 5 minutes, but this match should have been given a 15 minute block at the very least, It just feels like they had more in the tank.

In-depth Predictions/Other elements for WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022 by AverageMansReviews

In-depth Predictions/Other elements for WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022 by AverageMansReviews

Bobby Lashley vs. Austin Theory vs. Champ Seth Rollins; Triple Threat Match for the WWE United States Championship: my pick is Seth Rollins. I would really go into more detail usually, but simply put it just feels way too early for a change of champion here.

The O.C's AJ Styles [with The Good Brothers: Luke Gallows & the NJPW NEVER Openweight Champion Karl Anderson & Mia Yim vs. The Judgement Day's Finn Bálor [with Damian Priest, Dominik Mysterio & Rhea Ripley;] Singles Match: my pick is  The Judgement Day's Finn Bálor. Can I just say I really hate this stipulation of this match, it is just going to be a waste of time, considering how many characters we have potentially involved including and this is speculation on my part, but a valid point nonetheless may be Edge and Beth Phoenix returning to get involved, why didn't they just have a Lumberjack Match with these two factions as the Lumberjacks and I have just realised with these two factions in play especially with the Premium Live Event they could have and should have had a Six-Man Tag Team Elimination Match Just based on the Premium Live Event we are at as in get a elimination tag team match on this card in some capacity would have been great.

Shotzi vs. Champ Ronda Rousey; Singles Match for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship: my pick is Ronda Rousey. Hopefully this match will be good, but I have a feeling that this match is just a story arc where Liv Morgan may put up and almost cost Rousey her championship or a if it isn't Morgan, I just have a feeling that the match here is playing second fiddle to the bigger picture.

The WWE Raw Women's Champion Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Mia Yim & Becky Lynch vs. Damage CTRL: Bayley, the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Dakota Kai & IYO SKY, Nikki Cross & The Judgement Day's Rhea Ripley; War Games: my pick is Damage CTRL: Bayley, the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Dakota Kai & IYO SKY, Nikki Cross & The Judgement Day's Rhea Ripley. Creatively speaking there is just way too much value here is the heels win; Damage CTRL get some momentum back, Cross continues to develop into a up-to-date version of craziness, Ripley will continue to look fantastic and Bliss could have more of a relapse if they were to use an element of Bray Wyatt in this match slot. So the only casualties of the babyfaces losing would be Yim and Lynch, but as I have already shown there is lots more to gain out of this situation if the babyfaces lose here.

The Brawling Brutes: Sheamus, Ridge Holland & Butch, Drew McIntyre & Kevin Owens vs. The Bloodline: the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns [with Paul Heyman,] Solo Sikoa, Sami Zayn & the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos [Jey & Jimmy Uso;] War Games:  my pick is The Bloodline: the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns [with Paul Heyman,] Solo Sikoa, Sami Zayn & the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos [Jey & Jimmy Uso;] This match should be high octane action and excitement which I have no doubt it will be. But like the previous match hopefully more than likely there will be a ongoing story where yes they will win, but it will be a close encounter where there is friction more between Zayn and Jey, maybe somehow encouraged by Owens.

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WWE Evolution 28/10/2018 Match 2 Part 2 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects

Match/Stipulations: 20-Woman Battle Royal  for a Women's Championship Match [all in the ring at the same time, no gaps between individual entrances during the match]

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 7/10

Match Slot Storyline: 7/10

Crowd Participation: 9/10

On Commentary: Beth Phoenix, Michael Cole & Renee Young 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 44/60 - this match is good.

Comments: The IIconics [Billie Kay & Peyton Royce] deliver their high standard of heel promo work on their opponents as they are walking down to the ring and getting into it. Lana has this comedy angle between Nia Jax herself and Tamina where if you were wondering what Lana says here, she says "Please don't fight, Happy Sunday." Which full disclosure after watching this a few times I realised Phoenix was suggesting the please don't fight on commentary, so I took the words what Phoenix had said on commentary and put them over what Lana was saying yes I could hear some of it as you can see, but I had to piece the rest of it together using my hearing and what Phoenix had said.

Now I would have rated this match quality as a bit higher if there wasn't one botch or two botches depending on your perspective, with Ember Moon and Carmella; Carmella goes in for a running head scissors, but she doesn't get into the right spot, Moon changes this move into a whirring sidewalk slam [of sorts] to quickly cover this up, but this whirling sidewalk slam is poor. But in fairness and balance the more I look at this situation, it is a cover-up so I am not being too harsh on Moon here; as she shows her strength to finish this sequence as it was clearly a situation of the domino effect here and just in case you looking for this spot [if you miss the running head scissors; you can/will hear Carmella yelling through this mini sequence.]

On commentary this is an excerpt Young: "Carmella looking for   " [she doesn't finish her sentence] Cole: "That was rather unique." Young:" You have got to throw everything against the wall, you know."

Basic Result: Nia Jax wins this opportunity

Basic walk-through of this event:

* Beth Phoenix, Michael Cole & Renee Young: Commentary watching a replay of the closing stages over the entrance music of Nia Jax theme music "Force Of Greatness"

 * Kayla Braxton: interviewer in the ring basically talking about the present and the future.

* Michael Cole & Renee Young: Commentary introduce a new campaign GirlsUp and talk about it.

* Beth Phoenix, Michael Cole & Renee Young: Commentary talking about empowering women and moving on to Mae Young Classic 2018 Tournament

* Mae Young Classic 2018: video package Mae Young her voice and some pictures of her, history of women wrestlers by pictures, a small video clip of last year's winner and building up to tonight's final Toni Storm vs. Io Shirai.

* Michael Cole: Commentary Brings up what one of these two competitors will win this trophy Mae Young Classic 2018 and then the Referee for this upcoming match Jessica Carr.

* Michael Cole & Renee Young: Commentary list some of the competitors of this tournament as they are in the audience [the camera is on them.]

* Kayla Braxton: Ring announcer introduces the next match

* Michael Cole: Commentary [promotional] WWE Evolution is being presented by WWE 2K19 and KAY Jewelers [with promotional things on screen at this time.]

* Michael Cole: Commentary in Io Shirai gives a shout out to Tegan Nox; I am paraphrasing here who was injured in this tournament, but is recovering nicely and can't wait to be back.

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WWE Evolution 28/10/2018 Match 1 Part 1 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Pay-Per-View Rewind of: WWE Evolution 28/10/2018 Match 1 Part 1 by AverageMansReviews - Spoiler Alarm!

Chosen by: You well kind of: I put this poll up on social media; What brand/promotion pay-per-view am I going to review next? After the 1 I am working on which is WWF; You decide? WWF received 0%, whilst NXT and WCW received 20% each, which leaves the WWE with 60%, so hence why we are here.

Basic walk-through of this event:

* Opening package to this event

* Opening musical performers from Lzzy Hale & Nita Strauss with the track [massive apologies I have looked up and down for an actual track name, but I was unsuccessful in finding it.]

Beth Phoenix, Michael Cole & Renee Young: Commentary welcome us, bring up the musical performance and then discuss what this momentous occasion means

Lilian Garcia: Ring announcer introduces the babyfaces The Besties: Stratus & Lita for our first match, then introduces "The Goddess" Alexa Bliss

"The Goddess" Alexa Bliss: promo Stratus & Lita and introduces her associates and their opponents Alicia Fox & Mickie James.

Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects

Match/Stipulation: The Besties: Trish Stratus & Lita vs. Alicia Fox & Mickie James [with “The Goddess" Alexa Bliss;] Tag Team Match

Match Attributes:

Match Quality: 7/10

Match Slot Storyline: 7/10

Crowd Participation: 8/10

On Commentary: Beth Phoenix, Michael Cole & Renee Young 7/10

Satisfying Conclusion: 7/10

Recommend Watch: 7/10

Match Total: 43/60 - this match is good.

Comments: this is a good start to this pay-per-view. On commentary between Cole and Phoenix, they made reference to Lita beginning her career with The Hardy Boyz [Matt & Jeff Hardy] forming Team Xtreme [2000-2003,] this is so incorrect it isn't funny let's just say for clean content sake she on some research, because I knew some of this I just needed a bit more detail and reminding debuted for the WWF/E 1999 with The Godfather [adult entertainer distributor] and/or with Essa Rios, so this is another example of the WWE trying to erase/change the narrative to  protect their apparent squeaky image. Yes for those quick minded people that are considering calling me a hypocrite, because I have tried to put things cleanly, the difference between myself and this wrestling promotion is simple; I acknowledge the history, I may just choose to put in a politer version or try to.

Hopefully the wrestling in the ring remains at minimum positive, because even though we are at the beginning of this pay-per-view event. I don't say this from a sexist perspective, I say it from a publicity stunt perspective, how momentous this occasion is it has that really unpleasant strong undertone [which is not an undertone of yes we worked hard for this, which is true as women, but it pains the WWE in this false image.] So much so I have limited myself to saying something like this now at the start of this pay-per-view and not again until the end, because if I don't try to discipline myself away from the topic, I can see myself going on and on about it.

Basic Result: The Besties: Trish Stratus & Lita pick up the W.

Basic walk-through of this event:

* Beth Phoenix, Michael Cole & Renee Young: Commentary watching a replay of the closing stages over the entrance music of Stratus' theme music "Time To Rock & Roll"

 * Kayla Braxton: interviewer building up The Bella Twins; Nickki Bella's main event singles match tonight against Ronda Rousey for her WWE Raw Women's Championship and she will have her sister Brie Bella with her.

* Beth Phoenix, Michael Cole & Renee Young: Commentary what they've just heard, once again talking about the women's momentous occasion

*Video Package of: past and current women wrestlers/superstars/on-screen personality giving their opinion on this momentous occasion

Lilian Garcia: Ring announcer introduces the next match and it's rules of 20-woman Battle Royal for a Women's Championship Match and then introduces its participants.
