Warning:
there is flashing effects/colourful
effects/terrorism/scarring/shooting/cropping/torture/decapitation, there are
components or/and of the Soviet Union and the IRA [Irish Republican Army] in
this film in one way or another.
Send a IRA soldier to stop a
hitman they have dealt with one another before: in retaliation for a way you are joint effort between
FBI [Federal Bureau of Investigation] and
the MVD [Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation] killing
his brother Ghazzi Murad [Ravil Isyanov] Terek Murad [David Hayman] the head of
this Russian crime empire had a meeting with this hitman known as The Jackal/he
uses other identities in this film [Bruce Willis] to put a hit out on FBI
Director Donald Brown [John Cunningham,] so between the FBI and the MVD go and
release someone with a deal from prison that has experienced dealing with The
Jackal IRA soldier [Richard Gere.]
The
pacing for this 124 minutes film is solid, it knows what it is doing and it
sticks to the plan. In fact mostly everything about this film is at minimum
solidly good. For a small example of the action we have Lamont [Jack Black]
getting his arm shot off by the fingers/hands of The Jackal [in one of his
aliases.] The scenery; this has its moments also Macknaw Regatta; it takes
place in Lake Michigan it is a yacht race for the benefit of this film it is
Mackinac to Chicago, but in reality it is the other way around Chicago to
Mackinac, I only know this because I have done some research on it; but back to
this film there are some eye-catching scenes of this race as The Jackal [in one
of his aliases] joins in this race in his yacht named originally Déjà Vu to
Insolent Minx, Chicago, 21.
The
character developments are likewise solid versions of what they are meant to
be, the performances are good also; but, but having said that I can completely
understand why this was nominated; The Stinkers Bad Movie Awards 1997; Stinker
Award; Most Annoying Fake Accent Richard Gere; it is generally speaking all
over the place; it is very inconsistent for a basic example in the opening
section it is really strong and it sticks out like a sore thumb whilst at the
end it has been scaled back, so it is unbelievable how much this accident has
changed, don't get me wrong I am very much aware that over time accents can
change or people can drop their accents, but in the context of this film, it is
something I can make peace with but as I have already said I can completely
understand why this nomination was given.
This film receives: 7/10, this film is good; I mean if you haven't seen it
before or you haven't seen it in about 10 years or so it is worth watching or
if you have nothing else better to do or watch or get a takeaway out with it
then this will pass roughly 2 hours of your time and this project does have
some positive awards accredited to its name, which we will get to in due
course; Winner; Bogey Awards, Germany 1998 [full disclosure and on research]
this is an award which can be seen as a positive or negative award; where this
project ends up on this scale, in a nutshell it is based on how many people see
the project in question in a certain time frame, the top award is Titanium:
Viewed by 10 million people, whilst at the bottom Bogey Award: 1 million
people, or 1000 people per copy, with a minimum of 25 copies, within first 10
days, so in this case I would regard this as a negative award. Now onto the
positives Nominees all at the same award event/ceremony Blockbuster
Entertainment Awards 1998; Favorite Actor - Suspense Bruce Willis, Favorite
Supporting Actor - Suspense Sidney Poitier [as FBI Deputy Director Carter
Preston] and Favorite Supporting Actress - Suspense Diane Venora [as Diane
Venora as Major Valentina Koslova, MVD.]
