Warning:
there is animal cruelty/burning/stages of infection/medical. I feel I must be
kind and respectful now for anyone any dealing with COVID-19 on any level may
find this film difficult to watch so I would recommend staying away from this
film, but however the option is completely up to you I am just being as I have
already said kind and respectful.
Storyline/Action/Comedy/Art/Character
[Character developments]/Performances:
these all combined at one point or another; the US Government tries to bury in
July 1967; Motaba River Valley, Zaire, Mercena Camp during this conflict [the
Kisangani Mutinies.] There are some people that know of this and they would be
Donald "Donnie" McClintock [Donald Sutherland] and William
"Billy" Ford, MD [Morgan Freeman,] because they are sent to go and
see it; escorted by the doctor of military medical barracks Dr. Raswani [Malick
Bowens.] So after neutralising or as they thought neutralising this situation But they didn't not fully; fast-forward many years later; the present day; now Brigadier General William "Billy"
Ford, MD [Morgan Freeman] and Major General Donald "Donnie"
McClintock [Donald Sutherland] history is about to repeat itself but this time
around Colonel Sam Daniels, MD [Dustin Hoffman,] Dr. Roberta "Robby"
Keough, MD [Rene Russo] ex-husband-and-wife,
Lieutenant Colonel Casey Schuler, MD [Kevin Spacey] and Major Salt, MD
[Cuba Gooding Jr.] trying to save the coastal-California village of Cedar Creek
from the same fate as Motaba River Valley, Zaire, Mercena Camp. The ending of
this film needed some work as in we never find out what happened to General
Donald "Donnie" McClintock and Brigadier General William
"Billy" Ford, MD. The pacing is something solid and functional; but
in fairness and balance it pick up the pace around the final quarter or just
before or around here.
We
have Major Salt, MD flying this military helicopter with Colonel Sam Daniels,
MD trying to find this cargo ship [Thai Cook Seattle] on locating it and
because Major Salt, MD can't land on it; which means Colonel Sam Daniels is going
to have to jump onto the ship, which in a nutshell he is hardly keen in doing
this, so basically Major Salt suggests to Colonel Sam Daniels that he flies the
helicopter and he will jump which the Colonel says no, [a blank but implying
terrified look on his face with a stutter in his voice] "just get, get,
get closer, very close with Major Salt saying "Yes sir." With Colonel
Sam Daniels asking "How do I get back up here?" [Getting ready to
jump out] Major Salt: "Just get them to clear an area or I can send you
down a rope [Colonel Sam Daniels looking back at him with this hardly amused
face; whilst he is still getting ready to exit] with Major Salt saying just
kidding." [Then removing the Colonel's headset from his head] with I think
he says try and keep it loose. [Now the Colonel standing on the outside with
the door open saying with hand/arm movement once; "Closer, get me
closer" [with this terrified/getting ready to jump with breathing in and
out; jumps onto this life boat which has its cover on it] getting up to this
rope which on this ship the Colonel has this impression of relief with which he
hangs over this rope and turns back to give this thumb up from the Colonel back
to Major Salt which in return Major Salt gives him this smile and thumbs up [it
has this slightly ever so slightly comical tone.] The Colonel from this life
boat makes it onto this cargo ship. I have just exert some of this sequence of
events meaning a little bit at the beginning and the scene doesn't finish where
I have finished.
There
is some good-looking sequences involving flying or getting in the way [as I
have already discussed one sequence in detail I can't give too much more a way]
and scenery or clouds and skies.
The
character developments and performances are all good with good on-screen
chemistry as well.
This film receives: 6/10, this film is good; now this is going to need some
explaining and from the very beginning I am not being woken here. But as I have
already said twice kind and respectful, I didn't feel it was highly inappropriate
for the TV channel I watched this film off to put this film on, on Christmas
eve, full disclosure I did laugh [the kind of laugh that says this is
inappropriate] in effect the person I watch some of these films with I remember
saying to her when I saw it/recorded off this channel that is a bit
inappropriate after realising what I was making reference to she said yes a
bit. But based on this I did feel uncomfortable watching this film based on
real-life events COVID-19. All I am saying is it is way too soon to put films
like this on TV, but on reflection I can't hold this against this film, it does
have consistently something to offer its viewers.
This
film has some Awards credited to its name; Won 5; for an example; ASCAP Film
and Television Music Awards 1996; ASCAP Award Top Box Office Films; James
Newton Howard and 5 Nominations; for an example Academy of Science Fiction,
Fantasy & Horror Films, USA 1996; Saturn Award Best Science Fiction Film.
