What
some days that turned out to be:
briefly; Bill Harding [Bill Paxton:] would like to get married to his newest
girlfriend and move on to his new job of being a weatherman, he once was part
of this hectic lifestyle also. His new girlfriend name is Dr. Melissa Reeves [Jami Gertz:] she is a
psychologist and she prefers the quiet life compared to what she is going to
experience very shortly. But first he has to get the divorce papers signed by
his wife/ex-wife [Young Jo: Alexa Vega/Older Dr. Jo Harding/wife/ex-wife: Helen
Hunt:] she is a meteorologist and alongside her are the Storm Chasers as they
are chasing tornadoes to learn more about them.
Generally
speaking: the framework and pacing of this
113 minutes film is straightforward as in it has an outlay and it sticks to
that outlay with good pace.
Action and art; because we are dealing with
environmental/disaster action sequences; they are going to be very impactful so
from an action perspective and artistic perspective; one of my favourite
sequences is where the weather takes a horrible time and we are in this
drive-through cinema; where it conveniently has/showing The Shining 1980,
unfortunately this outdoors cinema screen quickly gets destroyed with ease [if
you're wondering what part of The Shining; they were up to the axe chopping
through the door.] For a artistic/cosmetic perspective all the action sequences
still look of a very high quality if just a little bit old, if you have been
watching a lot of films or TV programs now and again you will be able to pick
up when the green screen comes into effect [if you are old enough you would
know it is the black lines sometimes thin or thick black lines that give the
green screen away, in this case it would be the thin black lines.] But other
than that they are still holding up to a very good standard anyway.
Character developments, performances and comedy; the
character developments are reliably good versions of what they are meant to be,
but it is the 99.9% of performances that elevate these reliably good character
types to well flushed out and all-round characters/people, so we have Hunt as
Dr. Jo Harding and the rest of the Storm Chasers focused on achieving and then
we have Paxton as Bill Harding trying to break free of this world to move on,
but like a hurricane getting quickly wrapped back up in this world and then
finally we have Seymour Hoffman as Dustin Davis; being the enthusiastic comical
one that really enjoys this life. I will say this now even though this has
nothing to do with this film, it needs to be said if the upcoming sequel
Twisters 2024 doesn't have anything remotely alike this kind of chemistry; the
sequel will be the equivalent of a fart in a hurricane from the perspective of
it may have happened but who cares, because you are in a tornado.
This
film receives: 7/10, this film is good; I mean as
I may have referenced already; the selling point about this film is the
majority of the cast and their performances and chemistry. There is a ongoing
sequence through the closing and yes this film has awards [not all of them are
positive] such as 11 Winners which includes MTV Movie + TV Awards 1997 MTV Movie Award Best Female Performance Helen
Hunt and at the same award ceremony/event Best Action Sequence For the truck
driving through farm equipment. Nominees 17 which includes Academy of Science
Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA 1997 Saturn Award Best Actor Bill
Paxton and from the same award ceremony/event
Best Special Effects Stefen Fangmeier John Frazier Habib Zargarpour
Henry LaBounta, Briefly I should also point out that this film has 2 Academy Awards/Oscars accredited to its name. Negative Awards included Winners The Stinkers Bad Movie Awards
1996 Worst Supporting Actress Jami Gertz and Worst Screenplay for a Film
Grossing More than $100 Million Using Hollywood Math Michael Crichton
